The Dark Knight Rises Will Dark Knight Rises win some Oscars?

I gave up giving a damn about it after Inception. They just don't like the man and that's all there is to it.

I'm with you, only it wasn't because of Inception. I just took a look at the Academy as a whole, and came to the conclusion that no matter what they decided it wasn't going to affect my viewing experience. Do I care about a movie because of the Oscars it was nominated for or won, or is it all about what's up on the screen?

It's not so much that they didn't award movies I thought were great, but more that why should I believe a movie is great just because you give it an award? So many times I've been told to watch a movie because "it was nominated for 5 Oscars" or "you have to go see this movie, it's a sure fire Oscar contender this year," and really, if I'm going to take an interest in a movie it's because of what the filmmakers do and not what the Academy thinks of it. The last Oscars was the first time I decided not to watch the ceremony, and even if TDKR was nominated in every category I probably wouldn't watch this year's ceremony, or anyone after that.

Wally better win an Oscar here :cmad:

It's looking like Deakins is really bringing his A game to Skyfall and from what I've heard the Great Gatsby is supposed to look quite nice.

This year just might be film's last hurrah.

Best Picture nominations don't mean what they used to. After TDK wasn't nominated, the backlash led to them expanding the field from 5 to 10. They've dropped it from 10 guaranteed to a "minimum of 5, maximum of 10," meaning they can nominate 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 if they want. When there are more spots available, it doesn't mean as much. So if TDKR gets nominated, it'll be similar to the likes of the Blind Side getting nominated when there were 10 spots available. It's just a very cynical attempt by the Academy to get better ratings from mainstream audiences.

Not quite. When it was locked at 10 they were require to fill out 10 spots.

as you mentioned its not locked to any specific number. If TDK gets nominated it will be to getting a significant number of votes, enough to warrant the expansion beyond 5 nominees.

In that sense, TDKR getting at least 5% of #1 votes? If its as good as TDK I can certainly see that. Although this new voting system I don't agree with.

I think Bale and Hardy deserve nominations. Looks like they're both giving it their all.

Since the Academy now has ten best picture nominees, TDKR will probably get a best picture nomination. But I don't imagine it winning.

It'll probably win something if one of the supporting characters kills themselves like Heath Ledger did. I hope it's Anne given that awful costume and performance we've seen in the trailer.

This is an example to everyone on how to quickly get banned......

So you liked it, huh?

Wow, just wow... I knew he was simply trolling with his first post in the Anne/CW thread.

 Well...

With logic like that how can anyone possibly argue.:whatever:

Personally, I want Wally to win. What I saw in this most recent trailer looks to be his best work, and he won an Oscar for Inception so why not this, too? Don't see Nolan winning Best director, tho. It'd make me happy, but I'm not sure he is gonna come out on top in a fight against Spielberg's work on Lincoln. Who knows, I could be completely wrong.

If PJ can take it home for ROTK as a way of awarding his work on the whole trilogy, I"d love to believe Nolan could get a similar treatment...for his entire body of work frankly.

Honestly I'm not too miffed one way or the other though. It's amazing to live in a time where the Batman movies are even thought of in this way, that in and of itself is really cool.

The better question is: will it win any Razzies? I'm thinking maybe Bale's Bat-voice.

;)

Lord of the Rings was completely different. The Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers were power houses during the 74th and 75th Academy Awards. The Fellowship of the Ring was nominated for 13 awards and won 4, which was quite impressive. The Two Towers was nominated for 6 and won 2. It's also worth noting that both films were nominated for best picture awards. It was a feat like no other. Of course Return of the King was going to rake in all the winnings.

How many wins did Batman Begins receive? None. Nominations? I believe one.

The Dark Knight got it's due, with Ledger and Sound Editing as well as all the great nominations. And Pfister got what was coming to him with his work on Inception. So far these films have gotten their due and have been met appropriately.

Between the oscar winnings for Batman 1989 and The Dark Knight as well as the nominations for Returns, Forever and Begins, I think the Batman film franchise has done pretty well, that's not even mentioning box office success. Lets just wait and see if TDKR warrants achievements before we go hooting and hollering for a clean sweep or claiming it got snubbed.

umm how can we say actors and directors deserve awards for a film no one has seen yet? I have seen many great trailers and heard many great things leading up to a movie that turns out to be a stinker

It's call a buzz. I get your point, though.

Fully agree. The only thing that we know so far is Pfister's photography looks great as usual.
