The Dark Knight Rises Will Dark Knight Rises win some Oscars?

Lord of the Rings was completely different. The Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers were power houses during the 74th and 75th Academy Awards. The Fellowship of the Ring was nominated for 13 awards and won 4, which was quite impressive. The Two Towers was nominated for 6 and won 2. It's also worth noting that both films were nominated for best picture awards. It was a feat like no other. Of course Return of the King was going to rake in all the winnings.

How many wins did Batman Begins receive? None. Nominations? I believe one.

The Dark Knight got it's due, with Ledger and Sound Editing as well as all the great nominations. And Pfister got what was coming to him with his work on Inception. So far these films have gotten their due and have been met appropriately.

Between the oscar winnings for Batman 1989 and The Dark Knight as well as the nominations for Returns, Forever and Begins, I think the Batman film franchise has done pretty well, that's not even mentioning box office success. Lets just wait and see if TDKR warrants achievements before we go hooting and hollering for a clean sweep or claiming it got snubbed.

I know the Lord of the Rings trilogy had a lot more nominations throughout so maybe that wasn't the best analogy.

And you're right, the other Batman films did receive some attention from the Academy, which is nice to reflect on. However it's never been in the conversation for the BIG awards until 2008 came along. While TDK did get its due and broke ground with Heath winning, it was famously snubbed for best picture and is a large reason why that category has expanded. Regardless of whether it actually deserved it or not, it was a well-known controversy due to the massive cultural impact of the film. I have my doubts, but you never know...past perceived snubs could give Nolan a "sympathy" boost this time around.

Probably not, who cares? After they decided to nominate "Extremely loud and incredibly close", I then decided that nothing they nominate from here on out will ever mean anything to anyone.

A BP nom would be nice to gloat about though. I'm pretty saddened Deathly Hallows part 2 never got nominated, but in a year with The Master, Lincoln, Prometheus, The Hobbit, Django, Argo, Les mis, Great Gatsby, Cogans trade, Anna karenina, Gravity and Life of Pi...I seriously doubt it has a chance. Not because of quality but for the oscar friendliness of all the films mentioned above.

With all the talk of this movie being "a movie of our times", with the themes of the economy, wall street, and the 1%, i can't see how this won't get a Best Picture nomination (on top it being the last in a trilogy, it's predecessor being snubbed, and it just being damn good - which it will be).

This will be an inspirational movie about getting out of tough times, and an emotional one too.

Whether it wins is tough. But anything is possible.

What i'm betting on is this getting a ton of oscar nominations though.

all tdkr needs is plenty of tears n a bane rape scene n its a lock for major awards...also a sean penn cameo or merly streep cameo wouldnt hurt either lmao

And the oscar for best Director goes to: Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises!

I just hope Gary Oldman wins an oscar.

I think 'Rises' has all the potential in the world to be, at least, nominated BIG! And I also think there's a good chance that it'll be the first superhero movie ever, to be nominated for "Best Picture". Weather it'll actually win, is another story. But to think that 'Avatar' was nominated, I think a movie like 'Rises' will also have a shot this time around. Let's also not forget that Nolan's 'Inception' was in fact nominated as well. The fact that Nolan hasn't won for "Best Director" yet, is beyond ridiculous!

It really does feel like Nolan and team is throwing every thing they've got at this final batman movie. I don't know, there's just something about this one that really seems to have Oscars written all over it.

Just like Peter Jackson was honored with practically every Oscar there was to win with his final LOTR's flick - I'd say that Nolan deserves that same treatment. I refuse to believe that I'm alone on this matter.

Yeah, i've been saying all of the above for the best part of a year now

Now we're two. :batman:

When LOTR:Return of The King swept the Oscars ,
It became only the third film to do so.
A clean sweep is not an easy thing to do at the Oscars .

If TDKR doesn't get a fair rewarded Oscar, I blow up a hospital.

Everyone says this but the first two LOTR movies got recognition. Oscar gave it to the third as a reward for all 3. Lot of people said the final Potter would get something but it didn't.

IF TDKR made 1 billion domestic with 2 billion WW thrown in ,
Then, it MIGHT win Best Picture,
That is how long the odds are .

Ok, ok. Let me rephrase. 'TDK', for one, could've/should've won all those same Oscars that 'Return of the King' did. It's just as worthy. And 'TDK' definitely has more to say then ROTK.

I agree to some extent. The Dark Knight did get snubbed within the Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Score categories.

Robbed, I tell you.

BIG TIME.

Some people believe Tolkien was using LOTR to say quite a lot .
The Hobbits represented Defenders of the Enviroment ,
The Orcs and their Machines represented Technology overwhelming and possibly destroying the natural world .
