The Fellowship of the Ring was nominated for 13 awards and won 4, which was quite impressive. The Two Towers was nominated for 6 and won 2. It's also worth noting that both films were nominated for best picture awards. It was a feat like no other. Of course Return of the King was going to rake in all the winnings.
How many wins did Batman Begins receive? None. Nominations? I believe one.
The Dark Knight got it's due, with Ledger and Sound Editing as well as all the great nominations. And Pfister got what was coming to him with his work on Inception. So far these films have gotten their due and have been met appropriately.
Between the oscar winnings for Batman 1989 and The Dark Knight as well as the nominations for Returns, Forever and Begins, I think the Batman film franchise has done pretty well, that's not even mentioning box office success. Lets just wait and see if TDKR warrants achievements before we go hooting and hollering for a clean sweep or claiming it got snubbed.
I know the Lord of the Rings trilogy had a lot more nominations throughout so maybe that wasn't the best analogy.
And you're right, the other Batman films did receive some attention from the Academy, which is nice to reflect on. However it's never been in the conversation for the BIG awards until 2008 came along. While TDK did get its due and broke ground with Heath winning, it was famously snubbed for best picture and is a large reason why that category has expanded. Regardless of whether it actually deserved it or not, it was a well-known controversy due to the massive cultural impact of the film. I have my doubts, but you never know...past perceived snubs could give Nolan a "sympathy" boost this time around.
