The Dark Knight Will it be too dark for the children?

Yeah, I think that "will it be too dark for the children" is the wrong question to be asking in the first place. Just because this movie has an iconic superhero in it does not mean it has to pander to a particular audience at any moment in the film. Just make a good, tasteful Batman movie, consider that Batman is one of the 'darker' heroes anyway, and forget the fact that kids like Batman just because he's Batman. This movie already appears too dark for children, and that's a good thing to me considering the freedom you get when you are able to explore more adult/mature themes and characters (like the Joker) when treated responsibly. If this movie shocks parents by being too 'dark', then they're probably too dumb to investigate a movie's rating/content before they take their kids to it, and too dumb to appreciate what the movie is.

damn. i think you guys want TOO dark and twisted of a batman movie. seriously, biteing off heads? killng babies? nah.

everyone loves a joker who rapes children and takes away the black crayon in the crayon boxes.

I disagree entirely.

I think it's wrong to alienate children because comic fans feel they are more entitled to the character. This attitude is why comic books are failing in sales nowadays, they are too exclusive.

Batman should be a darker character, yes. But not so much that only we can enjoy it.

Look at 300, and Matrix Reloaded, content is not always a hinderence. Fox thinks so but look how much they have messed up with AvP FF, Live Free or Die Hard.

Content, does not matter, the only thing that really helps a movie like this sell, is if it is good or not.

Well, duh. But that's not what i'm talking about. I just think a Batman film should be enjoyed by all ages.

I want Batman to tell Joker **** off before I slice your ***** off and shove it up your mother's ****** and sew her ********* together while ***-****** her.

Haha. no better yet...

I want Batman to yell:

"THAT'S IT! I'VE HAD IT WITH THIS MOTHERF**KING JOKER ON THIS MOTHERF**KING PLANE! I'm opening some windows!"

Yeah and we already had that in the late 90's, can we have a more adult/darker series now?

Why can't children enjoy dark movies as well? I was about four when my parents took me to see Batman '89 in theaters. It was a very dark movie, but I think I enjoyed it because of that. Batman Returns was even darker and I liked it even more. Batman is a much darker hero than most others, and parents should be well aware of that by now.

BatMan is strictly for teens and adults PERIOD!!! Children of our day and age have already ruined SpiderMan and I could care less about SuperMan; so HANDS OFF!!!!:cmad:

It's always humorous to note that the people who have probably liked these heroes since childhood think that now that they're an adult, they are cool by assigning their childhood heroes adult status.

Wow, no need to be a dick, which you seem to be right now.

I have never seen that quote from Nolan, and if he did say it, it would not surprise me if it was just to say to the general public so no crying typical American Moms would try and sue WB.

I think a lot of people forget when you are saying dark material it is not just clearly the visual aspect of something. Story lines can be adult, and complicated, and that is Nolan's style through and through, not just in his story telling, but his deepness, and also his non-linear editing, and quick paced story telling. To me Nolan's work has never been purley for kids, including BB, maybe it's my opinion but I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Even if Nolan says that it is a family affair, I'm sure he is not saying bring your 8 year old kid, those are the ones you hear screaming or crying in the theatres when there are creepy parts like Crane, and his toxin. And trust me I bet TDK will be much more dark then BB.

And you say Troma that you read those when your were 9, but I bet you did not understand half of the material or deepness in any of those ones I mentioned. I know you will say you understood it all because you feel it will degrade you if you say other wise. But even as my self, as a 9 year old I knew the basic plots of all the movies I watched, but some of the meanings, and adult material. Perfect example even though it is a comedy is Naked Gun, when I was little I laughed at the obvious stuff, but when I got older I laughed even harder because we understand so much more of the adult material, which clearly Naked Gun was aimed more towards adults, even though it was PG-13 and little kids could go see it, if you have watched the movies you will know what I mean.

So I will say again, I bet when you were that age, you were not old enough to comprehend half of the material given to you in TKJ. And I bet with BB a lot of kids will not understand it.

I guess to re-define my statement is that is the movie to dark for kids? Thats subjective to opinion, and to each indvidual parent. Are they more complex with much more adult targeted themes, and complex story. Yes. Sorry to call you a dick man, but from what I read, you were being quite rude to a statment that I to that point had not heard Nolan say otherwise. So show me the source as well, before you just rip on some one for giving their opinion.

Solidus: "He didn't MEAN it when he SAID it!"

I really don't becuase there really is no need for it imo. Unless it was like little grayson saying it and Bruce hits him ont he back of the head

Swearing in a movie like batman is not really nessecary

"Son of a b***h!"; "I say you're full of s**t"; "Dammit"

There were quite a few curse words in Batman'89. I don't think Batman should contain anymore profanity than that. No "F" bombs.

I just finished watching the Batman Begins movie & I only hope it stays @ this level of "graphic content" 4 the sequel

In the end it is really up to the parents to research what to see with their children
No fault is on Warner Brothers or nolan and co
