The Dark Knight Will it be too dark for the children?

**** kids. I want this movie to be R. A hard R, where The Joker is a cannibal, and he eats Rachel alive, and they show it.

Was there even any curse words in BB? I can't remember...

It'd be nice to hear Batman say "Joker, you unbelievable mother****ing son of a *****..."

And then Joker's all "**** you, batman! You're full of ****!"

And batman's all "Don't **** with me, *******! I'll kill your ****ing parents and make you EAT THEM!"

The only thing that comes to mind is Bruce saying to Alfred "why do you even give a damn!" ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Oh, got another!

Loeb "It's some ***hole in a costume"

Hmm. I'm a bit taken aback. You are so instrumental in a lot of the enthusiasm on this board, I assumed you were 100% on 'board'.

The truth is, I think I'm inclined to agree with you. I liked it very much, yes. But there was something cheap feeling about it. Neeson is just too ubiquitous as an actor, and he'll forever shrink my weeny after being the dude that dropped "midichlorians" on the world. Definitely thought the suit was "teh puffy" too ;-).

Bats intro was done anti-climactic for me, also. Ironically, I didn't mind the blurry fighting, but the way he pulled Falcone out of the limo wasn't shot as kinetic as I would have like, he looked like he was taking a ****, and the 'nice coat' I wasn't wild about either.

But to be more on topic, the story wasn't that dark at all really. It was just visually dark. Not to say thats bad. In fact, thats what I liked about it. I like that he's a good guy with heart and he has people that love him. And that the bad guys don't really control anything in the end, they are just lost idiots who will lose.

More on topic, this series isn't truly "dark", and the kids will be fine.

You should read some of my posts a few pages back. Yes I think BB was much darker in context then you think. First dealing with the mob, ect, drug dealing all that kind of adult stuff that is darker then most tone for kids movies.

Also yea BB may not be super dark be we are not talking about that, we are talking about TDK, which is clearly many times darker in terms of context lets just review:

-A mass mudering clown who:
-Blows up a hospital with innocent people insdie
-Kills a bank manager by shooting him right in the head,
-Tourtures the "Sons of Batman" or one of them
-Goes on a machine gun killing spree from the WizCon footage in the street shooting innocent bystanders
-Has a deformed scary un clean/un fantasy based perma scar smile.
-Is playing games where one boat load of people will die.
-And from the sides they talk about in context how many people the Joker has killed.
-Also the hanging of an effigy at the town hall.

Thats just the little we know, is it going to show gore and guts? no, but this context, if you just spoke it out loud to some one, most would say wow what a dark plot about a mass murdering clown.

So yes I will say again context wise, TDK will be adult oriented, but with the MPAA rating kids can see it if the parents so chose. Which I'm sure many under 9 will have nightmares, or not understand half the concepts in the movie.

But please I don't want to re-iterate my statements I wrote how I feel back on pages 4 and 5.

I'm excited more because of the potential, the potential that Begins had and mostly blew, but can still be saved. When you pair Nolan's understated direction with poor writing, there isn't much there. If Goyer was writing this one too I wouldn't be half as excited, Gotham's reaction to Batman is where it really deserves something better. It's all down to better execution of some great ideas, so far it sounds as if Jonah's grasped all the most interesting repurcussions of Begins: copycat vigilantes, media interest, identity, criminal groups vying for territory, gradual acceptance by the police, everyone trying to understand and exploit Batman. I don't think Goyer would be able to juggle something that complicated, if he even tried to. Begins had such a simple job, show how Bruce goes from A to B to C to become Batman, and stills feels extremely rushed, resorting to speeches to get exposition across quickly

Maybe the overly simplistic motivation Bruce had to become Batman will turn out well, they can show how naive the idea was. The only way they've attempted believability so far has been explaining a few logistics and filming in a real city, it's so derivative in terms of plot and characters. The only remaining worry is the generic superhero music Zimmer produced, but it did match Goyer's script.

The darkness of TDK should be about the uglyness of everyone's character, rather than some divide between the saintly (Gordon, Rachel) and the cartoony bad guys (the mob). Joker calling his terrorism a "social experiment" is encouraging, maybe that'll provoke some real reaction and complications when things get tough...betrayal, guilt, ambiguous choices, bad actions committed through good intentions, permanent horrible consequences etc etc

Thats a good read. It's sad I disrespect these boards to the point of coddling them. I never would have written what you just did, even though I agree.

Perhaps I'm just lazy.

I hear that man, lets go balls deep and have 'em deliver an R rated Batman movie. Nothing gratuitous, just the level of language and violence that fits the story, but there's gotta be some blood and some death. Why not a couple CSI type crime scenes/bodies?

Balls deep! I agree. Let's throw the dogs in the tub

That was another irritation with Begins, it felt like they were avoiding it, especially with Falcone. Another reminder that we're watching a kids film with mild pretentions to something more, rather than anything remotely believable. If they wanted this film closer to reality these are the kind of details they should concentrate on rather than explaining where Batman gets his cape from, it all feels so sanitised and dumbed down. :csad:

But characters that don't converse in monologues is the first priority

I thought begins gave reasonable explaination for how Batman got started

YEAH! AND THEN THE FALAFEL VENDOR IS LIKE:

"***** WHATCHOO MEAN U DONT LIKE FALAFEL?!?!?! MAN YOU STUPID MOTHER****** I WILL **** UR **** TIL **** **** OUT OF IT AND ****** WITH THE ***** IF I **** AND A ***** BURNING LIKE A ****** THE SENSATION OF A *** LICKING A **** WHEN YOU **** ITCHY ****** GLASS ***** HARMONICA ****** THEN I STICK A **** IN YOUR **** WITH A ****** AND SOME TOOTHPASTE ************* SAVE THE WHALES **** **** BATMAN ****** $6.95, please."

That is awesome.

i want it rated R just to see Bruce tell Rachel to shut the ***** up

I finally understand this thread: It's all about hate for Michael Jai White. It's because he's black, huh?

I SWEAR!

The brothas of Hollywood get NO love. Too dark? That's racist.

Is he actually in this film? That all went quiet. They'll need a new token black guy once Loeb pops it.

Yeah, he plays some gangster named "Gamble" who does Karate and stuff.

Or just **** her....wearing the batsuit.......with Joker.........and Gordon........in the rain.......on a rooftop......

To those who think BB wasn't dark enough, just be glad Nolan didn't make it colorful & bright like Schumacher. You wouldn't want that look again now, would you? :D :D

you can say F834k once in a pg 13 movie i believe

Yeah that is the general rule and it can't be used in the context of sex like I f**ked her... for example

However to be clear there are 20 or more movies that use the word from varying degrees from 2-13 times and got a Pg-13 without an appeal... and we all know Gunner's Palace has like 53 (thanks to appeal) and has a PG-13, but the general rule of thumb and what is officially on record:

One time and not in the context of sex....

"Oh F***, I left my keys in the tumbler."

Regardless of how dark the movie ends up, parents will still take their children to see it. I mean, these are the same parents who took them to see 300 :o .

Joker needs to bite the heads off new born babies.
