all this I'm hearing about Collossus would make for a very interesting character on the big or little screen, it'd just need the right director behind it, plus with Kitty as a lead in this series it'd be interesting to really depict their romantic interactions for once, even if it's an ongoing yet forbidden crush... see stuff like this is why I feel it should be titled around the X-Men, without any particular mutant in the lead, but WE people obviously have strong feelings against this... IDKY, but again WE

See, I agree. The irony is that Kitty Pryde played even MORE of a lead in X-MEN EVOLUTION so that was more of a missed opportunity for Colossus, which was a shame because I did like that show overall. While I've never wanted him to be a solo star or get like 7 episodes exclusively devoted to him, yeah, I figure he deserves to be a lead in a show and get just as much focus as Gambit or Nightcrawler are getting.

It's unlikely to happen, though. Yost & Johnson only see him as a Russian guy who has a nice metal design who occasionally smashes things. He's due to appear in Episode 21 if Wikipedia is to be believed, so at the very least I hope he's at least depicted as half as efficient in his token fight against nothing important as Kamal was in "FUTURE X". What made his appearances in EVOLUTION wasn't just his utter lacking of any character, but how he was pwned in virtually every fight he was in against any opponent save Toad (who anyone could beat) or a token Egyptian robot. I just am amazed he is showing up in half of the promotional material when he's contributed nothing. At least EVOLUTION never did that.

I'd love to see a cartoon try for the Kitty/Colossus dynamic. But, Colossus is considered an "outdated" or "boring" character by more people besides The Overlord, and considering how he was wasted in the comics for many years by professionals, that is probably a fair argument from some fans. If you never saw the guy do anything interesting, why get miffed if he plays second fiddle to Squidboy? Iceman allows them to give Kitty a boyfriend who can quip upbeat one-liners, which is more fun for a TV writer.

The big guy had a "sort of" cameo in episode 10, which was amusing.

Still, to end the post on a positive note, WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN has shown it is willing to focus on other characters besides the titular one for stretches of time. Hell, some of their episodes that have focused on someone NOT on the main team roster yet, like Nightcrawler, have been excellent. It's certainly POSSIBLE that Colossus could be built up for something great. Just improbable. To paraphrase HITCHHIKER'S GALAXY TO THE UNIVERSE. Ironically, I've seen casual audiences respond well to him when he is depicted in movies and TV.

Well i will be honest i actually have been watching them Via downloading hehehe i know i know when it actually airs here in the us i will watch them but i couldn't wait to watch it and i love it i love the idea of charles in the future and wolvierine leading and not pretty boy scott

In a probably S2 I hope Colossus, Angel's return, and Gambit/Rogue relation
X-team will include Cyke Jean Wolverine
Emma'stragedy was so sad

Press Release For "Wolverine And The X-Men" Second Season Announcement

December 04, 2008 by James Harvey

Marvel Animation Age has received a press release from Toonz Entertainment concerning the second season of Wolverine and The X-Men.

Press Release:

Marvel Animation Green lights Season 2 of All-New Wolverine and the X-Men Animated Series

Marvel Animation and Singapore-based Toonz Entertainment Pte Ltd have given an early green light to a second season of the animated television series, Wolverine and the X-Men. This on the heels of an overwhelming response at MIPCOM and the launch of Season 1 in Latin America, Canada, and Italy, the Wolverine and the X-Men animated series is set to continue its uncanny success as it expands to other international territories including the U.K. on BBC and the U.S. in January 2009 through the Nicktoons Network, Nickelodeon’s 24-hour animation channel. The action, adventure and drama will continue with 26 more half-hour episodes already in preproduction.

P. Jayakumar, Toonz Group’s CEO commented, “We are thrilled to extend our relationship with Marvel and continue showcasing one of the most sought-after, iconic characters of all time. This second season will bring fans even more fresh and exciting stories and take us even deeper into the X-Men universe.”

Eric Rollman, Marvel’s President of Animation commented, “The response to this series has been outstanding and the decision to move forward immediately with a second season was simple. We are bringing together the same team who produced the first season and looking forward to continuing the success with all new episodes.”

Alright so it sounds like Yost, Kyle, Gordon, Kirkland, and Johnson are all coming back. Hopefully all the same VA's as well. Steven Blum was born to play Wolverine.

I'm sure all the VA's will be back, as the rest of the staff.

That statement makes it appear that W&TXM's strong international ratings and popularity are part of why a second season has been greenlit so quickly. That's pretty cool, considering all the import animation the U.S. gets and relies upon.

Well I mean, we are talking about X-men here Dread. A global brandname franchise that's right up there with Spider-man.

I mean X-men is basically a billion dollar franchise.

I know, but I am not sure if the last cartoons were as well received overseas as this one has. Granted, this one had the backdrop of three films; even EVOLUTION only had the first to come after.

I also haven't heard as much positive international reception to SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, which is a less complicated and (so far) better quality show. Not saying W&TXM is bad, not at all. It's a good show. SS-M is a great show, though. The A+ to W&TXM's B+ so far. It seems to have more guaranteed episodes, though.

I am glad to be getting another season; now however W&TXM Season 1 finishes, we know there will be more.

I think it's because that Wolverine and The X-men is a more complicated, edgier, and mature series in presentation and execution ;) .

Or Wolverine is bigger than Spider-Man right now. :D

It is good that the show is doing well internationally. I hear that EVOLUTION did very well in Canada and was even reairing up there until recently.

SS-M is an excellent show which I think is better, but with that said, the X-Men are a different sort of show to do than Spidey. By definition it is more complicated due to the sheer amount of characters on the roster, and the complicated universe. Wiesman is better with handling story-arcs, though. Granted, his GARGOYLES helped create that trend in modern American cartoons.

But, WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN is doing well and improving as it goes along, which is a positive step.

A new season means 26 more episodes to ignore Colossus with.

Kidding. But, yeah, knowing for sure that a new season is coming will add some oomph to the finale for this season, since I know there will be follow up.

I dunno. Globally and in the US, I'd say Spider-man is the more popular character.

so season 2 for 2010, no?

let's hope so.

One can hope. It's felt like we've waited a long time for this show, like 3 years. But now that everyone is set hopefully the wait won't be as bad.

January '10 would be nice though.

Yesss a 2nd season I wish they will continue to follow the comics, like season 1 which included plots: dark phoenix, hellclub, sentinels, Sinister, weapon X ...
So they can pick some plots from comics again for this season 2.

Also, there is a link between mystique and weapon X!!!! I hope S2 will explain that
We must have x-team: Wolverine, Cyke, Jean, Beast, Storm, Iceman, Kitty, Rogue, Nightcrawler.
I hope Colossus returns and Angel's return eventually! I hope a relation between Gambit and Rogue too!

And forget Forge, he really sucks!!!!

In other news, MAA has reported that WATXM is being pre-empted for the month of December for Holiday programming. The show returns with new episodes in January of next year.

I don't think it's the popularity of the franchises, but rather the companies who are producing them.

Wolverine is being made by Marvel, they know how to handle a comic based cartoon because, well, they are in the comic business. They give each season 26 episodes and as soon as they see the first season is doing well, they commission a second season so they can keep the creative team together. The latest press release shows they understand how important that is.

Whereas SSM is produced by Sony, whose main business isn't comics and they seem to have a very cautious approach to how they are handling things. They give 13 episodes a season and are waiting to see how well dvd sales are before they commission a third season. Even if they gave the go ahead for a third season now, theres only a few people left who worked on the first two seasons that haven't already moved on to other jobs.

Sony just doesn't know how to handle the property as well as Marvel does.

"Sony (and I work for Sony, not Marvel) has the rights to the Spider-Man property" - Greg Weisman

Type "sony spider-man" in the search field for more information, like;

" As of today, 9/23, the Spidey staff consists of 13 individuals, four of whom -- our production manager, color supervisor and two color stylists -- will be laid off (not fired - no one has been fired) at the end of this week.

That will leave us with a staff of nine: myself, Vic Cook, our Associate Producer, our Post-Production Coordinator, two editors, two assistant editors and our effects editor. We will all be aboard until January 23rd, when we will all be laid off - unless a pick-up of some kind comes in by that time. " - Greg Weisman

As in the Canadian broadcast? As in no episode 13 tonight (or at all until '10)?

I'm fine with a break - as long as I know about it.

Yeah Canadian broadcast for YTV. I'm assuming that means episode 13 didn't air tonight.

However, I think they should've because that puts the series right at the halfway point.

I know, it's not even REALLY the holiday yet. Air episode 13, then wait on 14 until January. Oh well.

Sony isn't listed as a producer of SSM on IMDB.

The official Spectacular Spider-Man website has a big ol' "Sony Pictures Kids" logo at the top. almost as important (in the visual hierarchy) on the page as the Spectacular Spider-Man logo itself.

I read somewhere that YTV Canada did'n't have the right to Marvel shows so they gave WATXM to another channel and that other channel wants to air the series in January or 09' but wants to start from the beginning again. (which is understandable). But that means that episode 14 will air 13 weeks after the first week in Jan. which will make it sometime in April.

Also, the US stations will be airing WATXM by then. So the Canadian channel will be like 2-4 episodes ahead of the US channel when the episodes are aired again.

So basically, Im just upset at the fact that we will have to wait until April to see the next new episode. :cmad:

Well, MAA said that YTV would be showing new episodes on the schedule again after the Holidays.

I think they should've done 13 and gotten to the halfway point before the hiatus though from what I understand happens in that ep.

If they hadn't have had (god that seems like horribly grammar...had not have had...) the one week where they didn't air an episode (it was like a month back, I think there were two weeks between 7 and 8), they could've ended on episode 13 on the night where they actually aired 12.
