Apocalypse will not be the top grossing film of 2016. I'd be mildly surprised if it makes more than Rogue One makes in the calendar year (much less its full run).

I don't think anyone's expecting XMA to be the top grossing film of the year, just one of them....definitely within the top five list when it's all said and done.

If not X-men Apocalypse, then which movie?

It's easy to hit a billion dollars for X-men Apocalypse and it's going to be the top grossing film of 2016. :)

If it's easy then why hasn't X-Men come anywhere close before?

Top 10 probably, but not Top 5, not with films like Rogue One, Civil War, Finding Dory, BVS, Fantastic Beasts hanging around.

what???? But why? May 27 is my birthday. :(
27th May is also my brother birthday.

At movieforum in my country, how many users want to see movie:
1.Suicide Squad 37 859
2.Batman v Superman 33 759
3.Captain America: Civil War 29 242
4.X-Men: Apocalypse 28 528

Yes marketing for X-Men:Apocalypse is poor. SS is much later in cinemas.

It's a contender for top five, but I really don't think it will pull that off. There's strong competition for those spots, particularly Civil War, Finding Dory, Rogue One, BvS, and Fantastic Beasts. Don't count out Jungle Book, the Disney Animation stuff, ID4, or even something like Suicide Squad or Strange.

You do know a Star Wars movie is coming out this year, right? Additionally, Iron Man all but confirms that Cap 3 will make a billion dollars (which is Marvel's real motivation to do Civil War now, don't let the spin say otherwise). Another Harry Potter movie is going to do gangbusters. Also, Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman are anomalies with potential.

It is a very crowded year.

Really? What forum and which country would that be?

A list like that shouldn't surprise anyone.

From Rotten Tomatoes:
Batman v Superman 100,130
Civil War 77,338
Apocalypse 69,708
Suicide Squad 8,226

If that's the case, then you're handsome too. :)

Suicide Squad 55,564
Batman v Superman 62,785
Captain America: Civil War 156,233
X-Men: Apocalypse 1,090,527

Right now, since its the underdog especially, I'm thinking that BvS shocks the world and ends up in the #1 spot for 2016 grosses. Of course Rogue One could potentially take that spot, but my gut feeling tells me BvS will hold it.

I could be wrong, though. We'll see.

I personally feel that no comic book film will be #1. What will be, I expect a pleasant surprise.

A pleasant surprise for those that don't want a CBM's to be #1. Or at least CBM's from certain studios. If we are talking blockbuster film genres, the comic book genre is my absolute favorite, so I always want one of it's entries to be top dog! Better for the genre.

I don't have high expectations for BvC, not even Suicide Squad.

But Captain America: Civil War, it could reach more than 1 billion dollars. Same with X-men: Apocalypse

XMA isn't a lock for $1 billion (even though I think it can reach it), whereas BvS most definitely is. There's no way BvS isn't going to be one of the top dogs of 2016...even putting personal opinions aside, that movie is about to be massive. Suicide Squad will be too, especially considering its tracking so fantastically this early on. Hell, based on the Joker's appearance alone & the buzz surrounding Leto's performance, I wouldn't be surprised if SS grosses $1 billion worldwide.

Fact of the matter is, Marvel & DC are about to make bank this year and both brands have a chance of respectively having two $1 billion dollar movies, which would equal up to four comic book movies that crossed that line in ONE year. And that's on top of Deadpool being a surprise smash hit that will have grossed between $700-$800 million worldwide on top of whatever numbers Doctor Strange does (which I'm already assuming will be exceptional).

EVERY comic book fan should be hoping & praying that this happens.

DC movies are not expected to hit 1 billion unless it's a solo Batman movie.

Nah I think BvS will make $1B but it's not a lock. Them making their movies dark is not a good idea. I don't care what anyone says, SS is not reaching $1B and won't be close to it. I think CA: CW will cut it close to a billion. May is loaded so unless it knocks it out of the park and is very top heavy, it's going to be hard to make $1B. I think BvS got it right with their release because there is no competition for a minute.

No. Just no. Not only is BvS expected to hit 1 billion, it loses money if it doesn't. It's been said by multiple insiders that the film cost at least 350 million on production alone, with some saying closer to 380. This actually makes sense, too, as WB doesn't manage budgets well and some expensive early footage was scrapped.

X-Men Apocalypse will not be the number one film at the box office this year. Nobody that's being realistic is predicting that. It should make money, but it simply has a minimal chance at hitting that number one spot. Too much notable competition in 2016.

That's not a bold prediction, the last CBM to be #1 at the BO WW was The Avengers. Before that it was TDK.
Domestically Avengers, TDK, Spider-Man 1 & 3, Batman 89 are the only ones to do it.

Plus there's a Star Wars movie out this year, so that'll probably be #1.

To many people, it was a bold prediction last year. And just looking at the box office threads, it is a pretty bold prediction this year.

Just because a movie needs a billion to make money, doesn't mean that it will make that much.

This upcoming season has a handful of candidates that could be #1, but a few of them are CBM's, so the odds are pretty good.

Why is a DC fan on this thread? hahahaha :)

It isn't exactly an unreasonable prediction.
