Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse coming in 2016!

Simon Kinberg on X-Men: Apocalypse plans

"We take a lot of inspiration from the comics visually, there are a lot of nods to images from the original books. Apocalypse will have visuals from the books and we’re now starting to get in to the script phase. The intention is to shoot the film at a similar time and schedule as Days of Future Past, we’ll shoot it next Spring to be released 2016."

Hope it will work better than in TLS, where we had a lot shots from comics, but overall movie was worst than X1, X2 and FC.

Simon Kinberg on the approach they're taking in for Apocalypse
What the comics do best and I think Bryan's done so well with these movies is humanizing, dramatizing the characters. It's really been about how do we give him [Apocalypse], most importantly, a very human and relatable motivation so that as extreme and insane as his methods are, there is something, you know, understandable, almost empathetic about his motivation. Some of that is in the books, some of that is us building on that. You know, fully dimensionalizing the character, but it is a huge part of the task of adapting the story of Apocalypse. It is making him, while larger than life also dow to a human, emotional scale.

We're definitely approaching him as a super charismatic leader that will draw people to his cause. So far, in the X-Men movies, there really are two leaders. You know, there's Eric/Magneto and what he did with the Brotherhood and Charles/Professor Xavier and what he did with the X-Men. Apocalypse does present a new leader, the darkest leader in the movie franchise.

I really hope they have him big and CGI'd.

They haven't really done that for any Mutants yet

On the story
I had read Age of Apocalypse and most of the appearances of Apocalypse before thinking about the movie, but went back and reread it and I think one of the things that's most exciting about it is the potential for the visual scale of the movie, and so it is a larger story than even Days of Future Past. In Days of Future Past, they're trying to stop something that's not extinction level in the moment, although it could be one day. There's not an immediacy in the plot and this is a plot that actually has extinction level stakes and is even more global than anything we've ever seen before. There's a lot of architecture from the stories that we'll be using. It will be about his character emotionally, you know, like who is he? Not just as a mutant, but as a person.

The Apocalypse story has a lot of different ways of telling stories. That was one of the things that I liked about Days of Future Past: Doing a time travel movie where it's not just sending someone back in time, but actually intercutting between the past and the future that we really haven't seen in a movie before. Usually you have somebody go back and stay in the past the whole movie. Apocalypse has some, without getting into detail, as you know from the books, has some innovative, different ways of storytelling also.

I can sense that one mutant from the future will be staying in the past.

I really am interested to see how this story is going to progress. So excited. I really hope they find a way of using original cast in this also.

So Kinberg said we won't see origin of Apocalypse in this movie.
After credit scene in DOFP was just glimpse to the past.

I said this in another thread on the DoFP board but I don't think the altered reality is where Apocalypse is in if that makes sense. We have seen the happy 2023 at the end of DoFP that Logan awakens into. And everything is nice and peaceful. And we know Apocalypse is set in the 80s. My thought is that Apocalypse hasn't come into it yet. Which means the peaceful future we see is that way because there hasn't been a major threat and that is why everyone is alive. I think that due to Kitty's power and Logan altering everything that somehow awakens Apocalypse or however they will explain it. He then choses whatever time he decides to come to and chaos ensues which then changes everything once more. I think that could work and maybe be a good way of introducing both original and first class casts. And lead to the discovery of who he is and his backstory and we learn about ancients mutants and stuff that bryan has spoken about. Just a theory.

Quick thoughts.

Doesn't the end of DOFP kind of suck the drama out of Apocalypse. It seems everything is A-Okay at the end of DOFP and thus you know that Apocalypse really didn't cause too much damage to anyone.

Unless the line "The future is not set" will come into play again.

Just because he hasn't done anything YET doesn't mean that he won't. Maybe altering the timeline in DOFP is what ends up awakening Apocalypse.

Yes but Apocalypse takes place in the 1980s. So these events would have already happened during the "happy ending" of DOFP.

Yeah, this is definitely what I would want.

I like this.

We don't see Magneto or Mystique in the ending....

I wouldn't mind if we get another time-bender movie.

Maybe not so much back and forth but Apocalypse's arrival into the 1980's changes everything, kind of like how Wolverine going back in time changed everything for the better in this film. We can have the exact opposite effect for Apocalypse.

Expext there may not be any time travel In Apocalypse.

The actions In DOFP like the Legion quest storyline In comics likely awakens Apocalypse
much earlier.

Yeah...You don't want to repeat and abuse the time travel stuff again and again and again. Sorry Teminator Franchise.

I would say avoid showing the future in Apocalypse and just focus on that story in the 80s. It worked well in DoFP, but if you cut to another horrible future the very next movie, it will start feeling repetitious. For something like Terminator, that is fine but in this series, people will get tired of it. Just show the scope of Apocalypse's destruction, and I think that is enough.

They should definitelly stay away from Time Travel for a while.

Maybe use Old!Xavier as a bookend? He has to fill Logan in on the last 50 years, so why not use that as an interesting narrative device?
