Anytime Thor Flys
Anytime Iron Man Flys
Anytime Superman Flys

I would call Iron man flying flawless. I can't say I've seen a flawless flight seen in an x-men movie. I really think the best Ive seen is homeboys sig where Magneto and the sentinels guide through the air.

None of those are wirework...

Sabah...

most of that is CGI...

the only wire-work i know for sure with Iron-man was the IM3 plane rescue... and well.. that also looked like wire work.. but IronMan is all CGI in action scenes

Thor and Superman however.. are a mix of CGI and Wire Work on green screens for certain scenes... but all action while flying is usually CGI

Actually Superman was mostly wire work and rigs against green screen. The only time Supes did anything with his powers he became a VFX model.

both he and thor use wire work and special FX... with green screening.. it's a combo of both... sometimes just capes and "effects" from ground ripples to electricity and hammer winding...

and then sometimes when in physical moments while flying (like fighting is often cg)

People complained about the wirework and the harnesses in MOS, actually. Granted, it's better than anything we've had in these movies, but still.

the thing with characters like Superman, Magneto, Jean Grey, etc... is they levitate.. they are characters who are suppose to "peter pan" it ...

now, aside from magneto... it'd be nice if all of those like Supes and Jean... floated while flying.. meaning... magneto stays pretty stagnant which makes sense with his magnetic powers... but the other 2 should be effected by the wind... so they shouldn't really float like they're in dead air, you should see there entire body while hovering.. moving up and down, forward and backward.. little by little... like a object floating in a pool...

more often than not superman looks like he's stiff

it's all the little details in motion and effects that really do help with this kinda thing... which is why i hope storm has some swirling fog/clouds under her when she flies, the wind moves accordingly, and it just brings a really nice "umph" to it.

they did a pretty great job with Thor and Vision in AOU, especially that scene where those 2 and ironman are blasting ultron prime

No, Man of Steel mostly utilized CGI.

If almost nothing else can move Superman when he's stationary, why would wind?

By the same token, if Jean can use her powers to steady herself, why would wind affect her when gravity doesn't?

I dunno, I find wirework complaints a bit overblown, like a lot of big-budget FX complaints. I think a lot of it has to do with people recognizing that what they're looking at is not real and looking for reasons for it.

I think trying to create an image where they are bobbing up and down in the breeze is beyond the capabilities of wirework. Wires are stiff, and unless they are yanked around, they can't give the motion you describe. And if they were yanked around, it wouldn't look right. What might look okay in animated shows isn't as easy to pull off in live action.

Also, I disagree with Storm having "swirling fog or clouds under her" - that seems like a reference to comic book artwork showing gusts of wind beneath her as she takes off.

Also, if they moved too much on the wires, people would whine about the wirework, a la Storm's in THE LAST STAND.

Whatever that means.

I'm not seeing "against her will" in the least.

Maybe she doesn't want to be in a war zone, but...

I did enjoy the wire work when Storm was at Jeans house and hovered in the air to do the tornado, but everything else just looked bad, idk whether it was the cape but it looked horrible.

I think Singer actually does it better. You can tell there's wind supporting her in X1 and DOFP and there's something more majestic about it.

I think the wire work in X3 was good in some parts (Spinning Storm) meh in others (Danger room Storm), but the wire work in X1 was worse. Scenes like Sabertooth jumping away or getting blasted away from cyclops and sabertooth getting pushed but not really electrocuted by lightning in the train station looked horrible. Then storm coming out of the elevator looked pretty bad as well. Magneto was done right but everything else looked pretty bad and to say it looked better than X3 is just hilarious, imo.

I must say I enjoy Storms flying in days of Future past even if it was only a short time. If they CGI'd some wind clouds when she's beginning to take flight I feel as if it would look more authentic. I agree with her cape needing to move in a certain fashion, especially if she is riding the wind.

X1 was 15 friggin years ago, I think it gets a pass. It's aged about as well as the wirework in, say, The Matrix. DOFP, on the other hand... I dunno. That shot of Magneto flying with the Sentinels looks like he's on one of those chair swing rides you see at a fairground.

They need to do better... probably should add more CGI to the mix, but CGI also tends to make the characters look like they don't have any weight. It needs to be a good combination of both.

I wouldn't even bring it up in conversation if people weren't saying it was better than X3, and I get its all opinions mixed with overall hate for x3 but still...

As for DoFP I didn't really notice any bad wire work, tbh.

But the wirework was better in X1 than X3, and that's what's sad.

Eh I'll just have to agree to disagree on that cause I just don't see it.

I'll have to pull out the film later on and really pay attention to beast's scenes. I just don't remember anything sticking out too badly.
