Rather it be Dark Knight, X2, Spider-Man 2 or Avengers it's just all preference and all good. Can't ignore any of those films quality, heart or whatever you want to call it with the public.

X-Men's box office issue imo (outside of two bad films) is that way too many of their A listers outside of Logan have not been marketed well or developed since 2006. It's actually very impressive that this franchise has ran on only Prof X, Mags, Mystique and Logan narrative for 15 years. 3 of those characters are not their potenitally most marketable.

But I think Apocalypse is gonna do very well. Better then DOFP.

I'd argue that many key characters haven't been marketed/developed that well at all, never mind since 2006.

This series does use a lot of mutant wallpaper. And there are important characters who drop in and out of the movies with little fuss or fanfare. Emma Frost being a classic example.

A friend of mine who doesn't read the comics and finally saw DoFP complained that he had never before seen Blink, Sunspot, Warpath and Bishop and therefore didn't care about them at all when he was plunged into that opening scene. He would rather have seen an opening scene where the familiar favourites were fleeing a Sentinel attack, or some other build-up where the new characters were introduced in a more fleshed-out fashion.

The filmmakers need to get audiences to love some of these other characters a little more. X-Men doesn't have the advantage of Avengers, where each hero has solo films, so they have to use the stories well to give other key characters chance to shine. Cyclops should be a Captain America, Storm should be a Thor, etc.

We will now be getting three films (First Class, DoFP, Apoc) that have given a huge amount of screentime and backstory and development to Mystique and Beast. I wonder if we will get three films or more looking at Storm, Cyclops, Jean, etc. Of course, Jean did already have a fair amount of development in the previous films, even though we didn't did get the Phoenix we really deserved in the end.

I'm really curious to see where the main X-Men films go after DoFP, given that Singer is moving on and X-Men: Apocalypse is the conclusion of a trilogy.

Singer hasn't said he is moving on, apart from saying on Instagram that he ain't abandoning the x-men universe he hasn't really said anything at all and that's probably understandable since fox are gonna make X-Men movies with or without him and no one can predict what will happen no point him acting like he will direct the next one when many were unsure he was gonna direct apocalypse for a while

Though I agree they could've greatly improved that opening sequence (I suspect they first found the filming location, in this case, the ginormous Olympic Stadium* in Montreal and walked backwards from there wondering if they can shoot something in that location), I think there was no better time than any to have characters act as cannon fodder than that very sequence. It also helps that the chosen characters' powers didn't need elaborate explanations.

I wasn't a fan of that opening sequence but for other reasons.

* weird that it looked so cramped though

New thread but still no trailer.

You bring up a lot of good points. I've been fairly forgiving of the last two films' shift of focus to the mentor characters because they're stuck in prequel era thanks to X3, but the leeway ends with this movie. Singer is reintroducing iconic members, he needs to do them justice.

I expect those members to get some spotlight this time around (and don't give me the *you fool! This entire movie will revolve around the big four only* speech because Singer has said otherwise). That's the reason why I admittedly whined when Singer said this was the birth of the X-Men because I wanted for the first time since 2006 to see a formed team *in the main storyline, not the future backdrop* in an X-Men movie from the START, but alas.

Still, what I've read so far seems very satisfactory, sans [BLACKOUT]Raven.[/BLACKOUT]

Since Bryan Singer is executive producing the tv shows and based on comments it's very unlikely he is leaving.the odds are with him directing
20,000 leagues under the sea remake he will produce next full X-Men film
after apocalypse and could always take over director's chair again after that.

Apocalypse is really focusing on the first class big 3 or 4 depending on how large beast is but odds are they are setting up Cyclops, jean, and storm to
have bigger roles post Apocalypse with both Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh
Jackman gone and nicholas Hoult a question mark.

Maybe "well" wasn't the right word. And while agree they haven't taken advantage I think they did do a better job back then. Overall though I agree X-Maniac.

As far as new characters, when they make the effort to give them character like Quicksilver it makes a huge difference. My friends and family like him more then any other character now. So hopefully they realize they have the potential and the key is giving them actual personality so audiences care and want to see them again. But I can understand the pov of wanting to see the favorites and known there as well. I really wanted to see Wolverine slicing Sentinels with the intro for DOFP. Have been waiting to see that for awhile.

When it comes the cyclops, jean, storm and nightcrawler i suspect singer is gonna give them each a character arc of some sort and oddly I'd say that is more then they have had in previous movies when you think about it

And my belief is still that the X-Men won't be properly formed until the end of the movie as a cool way to end it similar to how Eric calls himself magneto at the end of FC, so when singer says it's the birth of th X-Men he really means this is how the pieces come together to form the X-Men

I think tunnels and underground storage areas will always look a bit 'cramped' but they could have gone for something authentic - search Google images for tunnels under Kremlin for an alternative look.

There were some problems (for me, anyway) with that opening sequence. It didn't 'breathe' as well as it could have done. Omar's accent was too thick when he shouted 'Sunspot' to get his gun charged up with energy.

And although filmmakers prefer the 'show not tell' approach, I would rather the characters' names and a one-line description of their powers had come up on a Sentinels database in the flying ships before the attack, or maybe have a screen freeze-frame during the attack as we met each character to show a Sentinels' internal display identifying each mutant (like the screen inside Iron Man's helmet).

On the plus side, loved the design of the Sentinel ships, the eerie klaxon sounds ahead of the attack and the way the Sentinels dropped to the ground, and the costumes/look of Blink, Bishop and Warpath was spot on. Sunspot was a bit Human Torchy and should have been darker but still looked okay...

Based on leaked pics I suspect after Xavier gets captured it will be Mystique,Beast,Cyclops,Jean,Nightcrawler, and Quicksilver that have to suit up,fight horseman, try to rescue xavier, and stop Apocalypse.

Whatever Apocalypse wants with Xavier is probaly what causes him to go bald.

The one who started rumor trailer is coming 2nd October should take fight with 'The Mountain' or if it was woman, then with 'Brienne of Tarth'.

I think it would be hilarious if he just had a toupee.

that would be a big toupee if you see how much hair he has in the movie

I suspect him losing his hair will be a big thing for this movie

They really didn't have to be indoors for that sequence. :csad:

And I'm sure if they went in that direction they can fabricate a reason why the other Sentinels are not sent in after them if outdoors.

*Maybe cramped is not the right for it. The gray and drab walls didn't look 'cinematic' enough. It really just looked like a Smallville set. And thumbs up on your link.

Lana Condor spills the beans on Jubilee for Anthem Magazine!
What has been the most commonly asked question directed at you about Jubilee?

I guess how and why I use my powers, and if I’ll use my powers in the film. I actually had this conversation with Bryan as well. I mean, they’ve tried to bring in Jubilee as a character before in the franchise, but she never really made the cut. It just never really happened. Now they’re like, ‘We finally have the money, the fanbase and all that stuff to bring you in as a character.’ She’s had little cameos, but she has never ever used her powers—nothing. So I definitely get a lot of questions like, ‘Will she use her powers? Will she say something in the movie??’ [Laughs]

Are you going to contribute anything here?

You know?? [Laughs] And I’m super sensitive about questions like that because I don’t exactly know what I’m allowed to say. But yes, she does use her powers. It’s just that I can’t say why or anything because, you know, that’s the movie. I get those questions all the time.

So how prominently are you featured in the movie?

Okay—there are like the 17 of us in the ensemble, right? Six of those are the new, younger mutants, which includes Jubilee. I stick together with Jean, Scott, and Nightcrawler. Almost all of my scenes are with them. They’re such a prominent part of the film because we’re watching them grow up and learn how to develop their powers and use them. I can say that Jubilee is in it throughout the entire film. Hopefully. Unless they cut me. [Laughs] I would also say that if there were to be another film, I would hope that Jubilee would get an even bigger character arc.
I can say this pretty much eased my doubts on her character, EXCEPT for that bolded part of course, lol. Let's pray that this isn't another Rogue Cut situation.

The rest of the interview is here, it's very interesting: http://anthemmagazine.com/screen-test-lana-condor/

Woah buddy, that was a great interview!

I haven't really doubted much because of what they gave us in DOFP, but man, this interview really has me hyped and looking forward to what Singer and company have done this time.

Thanks for the linkage.

So jubilee gets an arc too? interesting

,,Let's pray that this isn't another Rogue Cut situation."

I hope it is, Jubilee just doesn't fit for me here.
She should join team in 90's.

I assume she was joking around about the idea of being cut hence the laugh

I'm so happy to hear this about Jubilee! Powers, dialogue, a character arc, and most of her scenes are with Jean, Scott, and Nightcrawler... So I'm doubting they will get cut. The fact that Bryan even mentioned to her about how they finally want to use Jubilee in a bigger way is reassuring, too! Lana is awesome.
