This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]512991[/split]
There's a massive hole in your ideas: Jean was shown to be alive in the 'happy future' of DoFP.
Unless the time continuum has been altered again somehow (when? by whom?), then Jean does not die anytime between 1973 and 2023.

LOVE IT! The VCR style.
I was here on these boards at the time, there was outrage that Jean died in that movie. Not just that it was by Wolverine (which actually did happen in a comic book story, though not the classic Dark Phoenix Saga), but the fact she died at all caused a lot of upset.
Why else do you think they brought her back at the end of DoFP?
I really doubt they are going down that route.
The reason she was revived in the happy ending of DoFP is because no one liked her dying in The Last Stand.

GASP finally! I was worried that the studio had abandoned the viral marketing/ revisionist history stuff that the DOFP marketing did quite well.
Im sure they are conscious of it. The thing is will they care? I see them not letting that limit them. Apocalypse is ignoring continuity things to tell the story it wants and people are giving it a pass bc they like the decisions. If Singer isnt attached to a future X-men film, I can see the next guy ignoring the ending of DOFP, to tell the story he wants and people will deal. Its as simple as thatI still laugh that people think that the end scene of DOFP is something the writers are conscious of.
Imagine an old 80's VHS style commercial for Xavier's school?
to undo the mess that was X3, bc the movie was universally panned on most fronts and that wasnt specific to just Jean dying. If this new cast is set for a trilogy of films, DPS will be the conclusion. I dont see the big deal with her dying in it with her story over and Sophie likely gone. They'll just move onto other characters and after 4 fims of Jean, that'll be okay. If and when they want to use her again, they'll find a way to resurrect her bc rebirth is a theme thats inherently tied to the Phoenix mythos. She dying in the past is absolutely no indication that she wont be alive at some point in the future. With Jean, that is a whole lot more plausible than lets say killing off Beast or Storm. Come on, you are a comic fan.
and the whole Dark Phoenix thing has been done already. The point is, if they repeat it, it'll be done differently. They won't kill her off because they did that with X3, they kinda did it with X2 also except it was obvious she was coming back that time.
Even if they don't think about that DOFP ending they are not gonna want to repeat what happened the first time since even then everyone was planning her resurrection and then they did time travel to correct it so no matter how beautiful they make jeans death... its been done.

I wasn't on the boards at the time so I don't doubt you, but I think the fact that Jean died in such a ****** adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga was probably what caused the outrage among other things. She was brought back for nothing basically, killing her again after doing nothing with her would be a slap to the face.
Jean dies all the time. It's her thing. I don't think people would be all that fussed if she died at the end of a proper Dark Phoenix story.
Exactly it will be done differently, and chances are they won't feel any pressure to repeat something purely because it was part of the Phoenix saga.
Jean has been killed like twice, one fake out and the other she was killed to stop her, and then everyone started theories about her returning for the wolverine which was nothing so as you said if you are gonna do it again then do it differently, she doesn't have to die
The casual audience don't know that 'Jean dies all the time' or that 'it's her thing.' The films have to be present a much simpler and less convoluted version of events.
We already know that time travel undid the events of X2/X3, in which Jean died. We saw the evidence at the end of DoFP.
I really have my doubts about them just killing her off again and expecting the audience to accept that somehow she is revived in the future.
