could singer come back and make an "organic" X5 then?

Perhaps if Singer focused a script with a singular vision. And maybe a little better visual aesthetics, particularly action sequences (which were horrid in Apocalypse). So much more thought was put into Days of Future Past (like the rules he thought up for time travel, and his multiverse stance), I don't understand why he chose not to do the same with X-men Apocalypse.

This is an adaptation, not a copy of the comics. The Dark Phoenix saga is a product of the mid late 70s and a bit dated. Even the 90s cartoon adaptation included several characters that were not part of the original comic (rogue, jubilee, gambit - while excluding colossus, nightcrawler, Angel, Banshee) both in the Phoenix saga and Dark Phoenix saga. Wolverine and the X-men's adaptation nearly completely changed the story.

Lawrence led her own franchise after she did First Class and went on to win several academy & golden globe awards. Michael Fassbender also went on to win several academy and golden globe awards, as has James McAvoy who has won several british Academy awards and golden globes nomination who is currently heading up a successful horror franchise. First Class was still considered a box office success, it simply didn't make as much money but it was more of a critical success than the first 3 x-men films. Days of Future Past was the highest rated of the x-men film series that gave more screen time to the First Class trio since it primarily focused on the past. X-men Apocalypse was just not a well made film, period: bad direction, bad story, not that great aesthetics.

Singer is done.

Yeah, that's going to be difficult to recover from being fired by a studio on your own film. Not to mention the whole MeToo movement considering those allegations against him which will follow him no matter what he does at this point.

I know I was agreeing with the sentiment with sarcasm because everyone was making it seem like reshoots equal bad movie like all films that have them are doomed to fail but most films have them including Avengers 4. People like to have the world is falling mentality about this film for no reason.

Sorry about that. It's hard for me to read sarcasm in this type of format. But yeah, that has been the trend of perception on reshoots, although to be fair....certain films with reshoots turned out horrible. However, many people don't understand (and perhaps simply unaware) the amount of movies that undergo reshoots needed to fix many different issues from continuity errors, technical issues, or to improve on a scene. Today, things are reported more on social media and websites and spread around quickly.

I think they should have held on to him. He had already had a scandal around the time DOFP was in theaters, I believe, and it did not really hurt the film, did it? It may have even fueled the viewership.

Fox really should have been as controversial as possible with X-Men. I mean, who cares? Hang on to that gay director, make controversial films that don't stick to Hollywood norms, don't make all the cast white (including the blue mutants), establish those first ever moments like first ever female vs female scene or first ever gay mutant, etc.

I mean, have you seen our current president in the U.S.? That man has done filthier sh** and he sits up there like it means nothing. This is just an example and no offense to the president, of course. If the talent was worth it (and it is), they should really stick with Singer. He should deal with whatever he's done on a more personal level separately from his work as a director.

Major or not, the reshoots would totally make the budget for this higher. So if Fox's intention was to make another not so eXpensive film with Kinberg, then well that backfired Xpecially if they are building sets from scratch again!

Singer is done just like this franchise once Disney got the rights.

No one in Hollywood (well in this time) wants to work with someone who have been accused of things more than once, whether its true or not.

And besides, Singer is not the be all of things especially when it comes to the X-Men. In my opinion, Fox has yet to hire someone that really gets the X-Men. X2/Dofp/X1 are great but if Singer trulh got the X-Men, other characters like Storm and Beast would have progressed more especially in Apocalypse.

No one is asking for a page of page adaptation. But having Mystique and Magneto again in prominent films after siX films is too much. I doubt you would see a lot complaints here if Storm, Nightcrawler, Beast, Cyclops have already done so much in the previous films. Or if Psylocke, Angel and Jubilee weren't wasted in favor of Magneto and Mystique. But that's not the case, and people are once again not liking the possibility of that happening again. And we shouldn't be grateful that Beast and Jean might be doing more this time, its quite an overdue since Jean has been in the films since 2000, while Beast's first appearance was in 2003. A lot of these characters should have been as developed as Logan and Xavier. X-Men is not the Magneto, Xavier and Raven show.

As for the First Class cast, First Class was the lowest grossing X-Men film at the time in North America. And the real draw in Dofp was the Ot cast returning together after eight years, not because those FC actors won or nominated for something. If the First Class cast was that precious, Apocalypse should at least opened just as big as X3 (you know the film that the ot cast headlined and the film that is called as "worse than Apocalypse"). But they couldn't convince the audience to watch Apocalypse regardless of their success outside of this franchise. I doubt that's gonna change next year when Dark PhoeniX gets bad reviews.

Problem is there was a scandal after DOFP was released and a scandal after Apocalypse was released. both on the same subject, and that makes it kinda awkward.

Doesn't help that Singer got fired from Bohemian Rhapsody during production for presumably being very unprofessional.

I think he did more than you know. its just it was more in the religion and cult leaders area of things.

um....the scandal wasn't over the fact that he was gay (although he claimed to be bi), but rather accusations of abuse similar to Kevin Spacey.

Didn't those same sources claim the film wrapped under budget? Costs for under 10 million is the norm for reshoots on most films. That's not going to spiral the budget out of control. I doubt sets would be built from scratch for under 10 million. And if they are, then the sets aren't a major concern for the reshoots. Your logic make no sense.

Such noise. How many films were many of the avenger characters in? Especially Iron man. Under Singer's watch the x-men were primarily the wolverine show. But in the end those are the characters chosen for the franchise and part of the younger versions focused on beginning this (ex)-new trilogy. So that's not much of a shock.

First Class wasn't expected to be that high a grosser considering the huge gap between the last x-men film which was a critical failure. People only went to X3 because of the ending to X2. They didn't get what was promise. There was no social media cycle back then for comic book movies like there is now where word of mouth spread fast even right before a film releases. Executives stated it was their goal for FC to at least open with about the same numbers as the first X-Men film for a new chapter of the franchise and it ultimately grossed more than the first.

The big draw of DOFP was a better film and good critical reviews. FC actors still got more screen time. The movie didn't center on the OT cast and was primarily McAvoy's story. Apocalypse likely would have open better if the film was directed better. From the start with the first released images to the sloppy lackluster trailers, it was downhill from there. Marketing definitely wasn't as good as DOFP. Dark Phoenix's outcome will largely depend on it's first trailer showcasing the film's new tone. If it gets good reviews and manage to be as different as Logan or DOFP was (including differentiating itself from the other comic book franchises which apparently is their goal), then that will boost its performance.

Maybe not letting Kinberg to do things would have been better as well. But here we are.
Singer should have stayed on his game then and done a better job in his directing duties. Oh well. Now it has past on to someone else under a different vision.

Just par for the course with some here with their "if it happens to literally any other film it is normal but this one has to be a disaster of Justice Legue proportions!" Even though nothing has happened to support that, in fact anything that doesn't follow their narrative of doom and gloom is met with sarcasm or disdain.

Has anyone heard about Vista Latam Cinemashow convention in Colombia? Fox, along with other studios like Disney & Warner Bros, showed exclusive previews there and someone on twitter claimed they showed a preview of Dark Phoenix along with Widows. Disney showed something from Incredibles 2. Don't know what Warner Bros showed. I guess Fox has a trailer put together or something close to it which mean we might be seeing something shortly.

Yeah. But its been on this forum before. I remember when I first signed up while DOFP was in production and people really went off on DOFP, particularly quicksilver. That changed after the film's release of course. And then with Apocalypse, that fake reddit spoiler painted a completely different film from what we got. So people will say what they will. I'll continue to keep an opened mind until the film releases. I wish Kinberg the best. I like the idea of changing the tone around, especially if it's far different from Apocalypse. So I'll wait and see what his vision produces and what his directing style is. I'm most eager to see how different the aesthetic of the film is from the last. Kinberg brought on a good creative team to help him make this movie and I want to see how different the visual effects will look now that more time has been devoted to that. I hope the first trailer is a good trailer. Or at least one better than Apocalypse, which I'm sure it will be. The first trailer for Apocalypse was so incomplete and too early.

Yes, it seems that they showed something of the film at that convention in Colombia
I also think that it should already have a teaser trailer ready, and we'll probably see it still this month or at most in July.

We aren't getting a trailer this month or neXt month. Even if Kinberg's attends Comic Con to present something. Maybe August or September.

Why not? Whats the point of releasing the movie in august LOL. There is no big movies coming out in that month at least in july you have Ant-man and Mission Impossible. Also Comic con is the more prime spot to release trailers.

Fox has a sci fi in August and Predator in September.

Such noise that you bothered to comment. Okay I'm not gonna bother to read what you've said then and comment back to your post. I don't want to make more "noise" for you. :o
