While I agree with you, ensemble movies give the biggest stars the most screentime. Casey Affleck isn't getting as much time as Matt Damon.

And that's why I said "roles". Some characters will get more screentime than others. You won't have an ensemble movie with all characters with equal amount of screentime. But you have to know how to balance the roles and screentime. To make the characters important in some capacity. Or just making the characters feel like actual characters, not just furniture.

There is no excuse for the treatment of Psylocke, Warren, Bishop, Jubilee, Alex, Emma, Storm, Rogue, Kitty, Bobby, Colossus, Sean and many, many others.

So hang on a minute... everyone has been wanting Cyc and Jean to get their fair share of time for development and now that they are it’s a bummer that Storm (fair enough she needs her due), Psylocke (Later down I could see deserving some development) and Jubilee aren’t.... I Cannot with this :whatever: two of the biggest X-Men Characters are about to have the biggest story told for one of them in particular and we’re already on to Jubilees development not being paramount... Wow

this is a soon 19 years old franchise, so yeah, we have the right to criticize them for their treatment of all those females, because they have had enough time to make them justice. Im not just talking about DP, I use to talk about the franchise as a whole, and Kinberg being a key factor.

He has been involved in 4 movies with DP, written 3 movies, so if most female X-women are wasted over and over, he's one of the biggest faults.

They’re just repeating the “leak” and that’s all

Well considering this thread is for DP maybe best for you to stay on track :yay: Again, they clearly set up the characters of Cyc, Jean, Storm and Nightcrawler in Apocalypse to get developed going forward. We know the past films didn’t do a good enough job of it. It’s been the rhetoric for the last 10 years, but this film has so far given no indication it won’t develop those characters. And to add to the point
if Mystique does die it is taking out one of the people that have been overused in the franchise so how is it a bad thing?

Can't get the vid to play. But am surprised they are even mentioning it at this point, considering what happened with the reddit source.

The leaks are not only mentioned at Collider, but the guest in that video (Jason Inman) said he knows someone who has seen the test screening back in Feb, and he said the leaked spoilers line up with what this person saw in the movie. So, according to him (or his source) the spoilers are true.

I'm not the biggest fan of the MCU Spidey but damn, this is one scorching hot take.

I myself can't even take it seriously, but I'm not gonna compare HC Spider-man and XMO:W Deadpool in this thread about Dark Phoenix.

I took the Reddit person as a wannabe scooper and ended up dismissing them after it came out they somehow falsified or copied someone else proof for the Mods, but this adds a new wrinkle with Inman.

At any rate, we are all gonna find out eventually anyways, if its great we will know and if it sucks we will end up knowing that too.

It's been said that both Fassbender and JLaw had to be lured back with a lot of money to sign up for this movie. Those 2 specifically.

Fassy was less than happy with his role in DOFP, so I can't see him not asking for a meatier role here. JLaw has been wishy-washy with what exactly she wants out of this franchise, so she's a toss up in that case. Would she want a bigger role or is she just here for her friend? Who tf knows with that one.

But considering the reddit spoiler mentions Storm, Nightcrawler Quicksilver get the least screen time, it's safe to say Magneto and Mystique get more time than them LOL

I thought Magneto had an awesome role. Those lines at the end juxtaposed with the future X-Men team being decimated. That gave me chills.

Charlize Theron would've made a great Emma Frost.

I have to agree with this. I really could see her in the role after Atomic Blonde and she totally has a Famke Janssen build, so I can see Scott Summers falling for her. Oh, those mind games would've made for a great thriller.

They apparently knew but didn't care. I don't know if that makes it better or worse.

That character absolutely did not need to be Yukio. If they really wanted a gay character, Shatterstar was right there...

There's still Northstar too. Also, did Shatterstar die on screen? Remember the Hollywood rule, man!

Quicksilver deserves an action scene if he is in the movie and this rumoured sequence at least sounds a bit different to the two previous displays. So I don’t think that’s the problem.

The main issue seems to lack of creative thinking, poor knowledge of the source material and unwillingness to really study it and know how to adapt it. Kinberg’s only reference points are clearly the previous films.

The problem is Fox thinks there was a success in the way Pietro stole the show with his first solo, a slow motion action scene in the Pentagon, so they have to repeat a solo action scene for the speedster in slow motion for every subsequent film. Btw, slow-mo was probably Singer's thinking the first time around and all the "fun" action elements (massive explosion, CGI, the dog, the blankets) added to it the second time around, probably not so. I mean, there are other more creative ways to move the story forward now that we know he's super fast, the viewer can fill in gaps of unseen events, one moment something's there, one moment it's not, I don't know.

Also, Pietro was way too serious in Apocalypse for me. The way he breaks the glass in the Pentagon in DOFP, that was a really cool moment for me. That devious smile really added some more depth to that character, and he's so funny during the scene at his house. Little things like that are missed. He could've been developed in conjunction with other X-Men characters, building relationships, etc. without needing to resort to what I'd call cheap copy-pasting. I don't know what else to call it, it's a very formulaic, factory-product-way of making a film, sticking to guidelines, rules, templates. As if telling a story were always so formulaic. People tell stories in all sorts of different ways and very engaging ways, you don't need to build X-Men movies with the same formula each time! X-Men is about being diverse a bit, why not try and be diverse and not present them with the same rigid format each time?

The thirst keeps mounting for this negative news to be real. Some are just reaching for any scraps they can find. I hope 7ntrue though I didn't even bother to read them cause I don't give a ****. I will base if I watch this film on if reviews are favorable/trailers/promo not some most likely untrue MCU troll trying to get attention. Reminds me of Roseanne rn.

So, it could be true even if that guy was full of ********? Well then, if it is true, Kinberg is Vince McMahon and his perverted Dark Phoenix is Roman Reigns.

If the leak is true (which unfortunately likely is), then one of the things I find most frustrating is that the only character I've wanted to interact with Magneto in this movie, is the only one (beside Mystique for obvious reasons, lol), who never gets the chance to.

I mean, what's the point of even having both QS and Magneto in this movie with this specific storyline, if they're not even meeting and thus not putting any closure on the whole 'father&son' issue, which they've been teasing us with since DoFP.

When they announced their return, I had thought that perhaps they would have a tiny subplot of their own, finally acknowledging their relation. Because there was literally no other reason for them to be in this movie. But no, let's just have something bad happen to QS so he doesn't get the chance to tell him the truth, and let's make Magneto fully evil again, because why not. It has never been done before, right.

No idea if the spoilers are real or not. How they incorporate [blackout]Jean's parents[/blackout] might be interesting, but the rest leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The look of Jean in still frame in this is evocative, so if that works in motion without looking super fake, it could go a long way. But that plot...

Ever since the delay, I've kept my expectations in check. Maybe it will be a passable movie and maybe it will not. But I am not going to lose sleep obsessing over it one way or the other. That said, I will be very disappointed if this universe ends on such a bitter note.

P.S. I will say how EW posited Magneto's role in the film does not really line up with the leaks. But I am not hanging my hat on that either.

Honestly, other than The Last Stand callbacks, the only bad thing I'd say about that leaked plot in terms of story alone, is why the aliens come. That's almost as ****ing terrible as the sun waking Apocalypse up because for 5000 years nobody removed that rug. The rest, though... under good execution it could certainly be done well... but this is Kinberg.

Having watched that Collider video, im more inclined to believe the scoop is true. With that said, they can still salvage the movie with reshoots so lets hope Kinberg or his team have seen the reaction to all this and adjust accordingly. I mean hes already commited to doing reshoots in the first place after a underwhelming test screening.

My take on the spoilers
"X-Men are like Avengers status at the beginning of the film (which feels really unearned) – astronauts at risk of dying in space (literally the atmosphere not space) due to some cosmic waves.''

“When Jean got hit by the cosmic rays she sent the spaceship flying into space and somehow it f***ing lands on an alien planet. The aliens look at the wreckage and go ‘f*** it this means war. Let's go get the Phoenix force’. That's literally their whole motivation.”

Xmen defeated Apocalypse and now are saving astronauts in space, publicly. I don't think its unearned.
We all knew this was going to be the opening. I don't mind that it may just be in the upper atmosphere. Just happy that this is quite different from the small scale/Earth based openings we've got in previous X-films and the combination of Nightcrawler and Quicksilver saving the day could give us some really cool moments.
As for the spaceship flying out into space and crashing on a alien world, that sounds a stretch on paper but could be done well on screen with good explanation. Perhaps the spaceship had nuclear fuel with crashed into a densely populated alien city and killed thousands, maybe millions. Could be that the aliens found a signature trace of the Phoenix force and have a hostile history with it so are cornered into trying to neutralize it. Of course we aren't going to get the comics version where Jean destroys a star which results in the death of billions, but this isn't so bad of a replacement.

“The movie begins with young Jean getting in a car crash with her two parents. At this point after the rescue we find out that her powers were responsible and she feels guilty for killing her mother. We find out that her dad is still alive though so she escapes the mansion all emotional to go find him.''

This could be interesting to see how it plays out and who is there to give Jean emotional support - hopefully Cyke and Storm.

"Jean finds her dad and she gets pissed that Charles lied to her about her parents being dead. But Charles lied because her dad didn't want her anymore. When she finally realises all of this she almost kills her dad but the X–men come to save her. She is really edgy at this point.

“She kills Mystique by accident. Beast gets all mad because he loved her. Beast goes to find Magneto for help to defeat Jean. Charles takes the rest of the team to get to Jean before the aliens and Beast/Magneto can.”

This is fine and I expect where the bulk of the drama is going to come from as several groups struggle to contain Jean and reach out to here at the same time, for positive or negative intentions. I just question the choice of Beast going to Magneto., it doesn't really make sense. I think it should be Jean going to Magneto in Genosha to try and gain his sympathy and protection since she will know that Magneto has been a wanted man for committing atrocities in the past like she has become.

“Movie is so boring I'm sorry if this isn't the best description but the movie ends with a CGI battle and it’s not very exciting because the aliens look boring and have generic levitation powers (they do shape shift into humans but they LOOK NOTHING LIKE SKRULLS AND THE WORD SKRULL IS NEVER SAID).

“There is an alien invasion and Jean flies into space and gives up all her powers to destroy the fleet. The End.”

All this is subjective. An unfinished CGI product will look boring.

Any speculation as to why the marketing is dropping X-Men from the title? Makes zero sense to me.

It’s never been in the title. Likely because it’s going the same route as Logan to make it sound “niche”

Wow.

Hey long time posters! Long time, no post.

Considering how much I was burned by Apocalypse, I've not been looking forward to this much at all but yeesh, that leak. Cautiously hoping that's not true.

Given how Apocalypse underperformed and the cast doesn't really big much $ and attention compare to Hugh, Patrick, Ryan and the rest of the original cast. dDropping the X-Men from the title is a ballsy move, yet a bad idea in terms of marketing. I also think they should be more consistent with the titles.
