Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Or protecting spoilers. Of course Endgames spoilers were massive but Dark Phoenix has been hiding a lot of detail like what the aliens look like and who Jessica chastain is

How many questions are gonna be on the press tour for Hoult losing out on Batman?

Wasn't it the same for Avengers?
Avengers was a totally different beast. Come on now...

The studio was trying to prevent spoilers and plot info from leaking out. Those trailers mostly showed footage from the first Act. On the other hand, this movie told us Mystique is getting killed by the second trailer and it’s director not only talked about it openly, he confirmed it by saying he featured it to show that shocking things happen in this movie.

I swear people here are OBSESSED with Avengers and MCU. So is this movie going to get 94% on RT now and open at $300Mil+?

nah, it'll just open around 200m in usa. not mindblowing, but pretty great for a x-men movie.

Here's part of an interview with Kinberg from Sci-Fi Mag:
Sci-Fi: Something that stands out about this film is that you set up Mystique as a maternal figure for Jean, and in the wake of her death, shown in the trailer, that Jessica Chastain's character comes in as a new, darker mentor. The female-centric focus is very different.
Kinberg: This has been a movie franchise that's been so dominated by the characters of Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto. And I just wanted characters like Mystique and certainly Jean and Storm and Jessica's character to become really foreground and primary in the film. It's a movie that explores and problematizes the paternalistic role that Charles has taken with all the X-men. Even naming them after himself, which we literally call out in the movie. Jennifer's character says, "Maybe you should consider calling it "X-Women." And at a different point she says, "What do you think the X in X-men stands for?"
Make up your damn mind Kinberg! Did Xavier come up with the X-men name or did Mystique's come up with it in Apocalypse's retcon?

Moria came up with it and it seems like Mystique was just bluffing based on interviews.

It was an IGN interview Singer did a few months before Apocalypse released where he said that the team in First Class was not a X-Men team.
LMAO That doesn't mean that Mystique was bluffing. It means they can't make up their minds and that they wanted to give Mystique this honor of naming the team, in this franchise's newfound obsession (circa: First Class) with shoehorning JLaw and her character in the X-men lore. The very definition of a retcon.

Singer clearly means the First Class team wasn't X-men because he wants Apocalypse to be the true birth of the team in the final seconds of that movie, which has nothing to do with Moira coining the term X-men (from G-men) nor does it have anything to do with JLaw's Mystique "bluffing" that her and her cohorts came up with that name at the CIA HQ when they were coming up with their codenames. Nice try.

Where was it said that Mystique named the team? She said they called themselves that.

Yea no big deal. If the projection for North America is off by $11Mil, this movie will make $39Mil. Again no big deal.

The implication of course is that they came up with the term "X-men," considering the name wasn't coined by then and no person had ever uttered the term by that part of the movie...

For comparison. Godzilla 2’s embargo also lifts three days before its release. Mad Max: Fury Road, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Rogue One, Deadpool 2 were 3-4 days. But also BvS and JL. Seems standard.

And there you have it. :applaud

Yes. Because does this really mean it wasn’t one of the top anticipated foreign films? Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle opened at 36 million in North America and ended at $400 million. DP has only been out for two days in China.

I think you are reading too much into that.

Mad Max: Fury Road: Embargo was moved up, based on positive word-of-mouth from online critics. Where's the "positive word-of-mouth" for Dark Phoenix?

Wonder Woman: Embargo was lifted on May 19th for a June 2nd Release date.

Captain Marvel: Yes embargo was lifted only 3 days before release. Wasn't a fan of this movie. That said the social media embargo was already out way in advance and the word-of-mouth was already positive by then. Will Fox/Disney/Kinberg allow social media embargo lifted before June 4th?

Here's some more for posterity:
X-men: Apocalypse (Fox) - May 9 for May 27 US release (18 days)
Logan (Fox) - Feb 28 for March 3 US release (2 days)
Fantastic Four (Fox) - Aug 5 for Aug 7 US release (2 days)

Honestly, it is not. Who cares what it makes?
I'm sorry that's dumb. People at Fox. People at Disney. People who've invested money in this. Did you miss all of Kinberg's fans here who are trying to paint this movie's forecasted box office take in a positive light? Yes people care.

You can't be serious. Dark Phoenix is not going to perform at the box office the same way Jumanji 2 is. That movie INCREASED close to 40% on its second weekend (New Year weekend...) and then 82% the following weekend. Subsequent weekends only saw minimal decreases. Movies RARELY increase their box office week-to-week. That movie is the exception to the rule; not the rule.

Dark Phoenix, part of a franchise that is KNOWN for having ginormous decreases at the box office, is not going to magically grow good legs.

I'm really not. You can't utter a unique word--X-men--if no one else coined it before you.

You think how this film performs is going to have some effect on the future of the property?
