Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I always imagined that Anna Paquin’s Rogue was on the other end of that walkie in Logan and held out hope for her to show up with Ororo right at the end as Logan was dying. That would have been a nice cameo for them and also a good sendoff for them to say goodbye, Rogue was just as much his surrogate daughter as X-23 :(

That would have made things kinda off. the whole idea was that the X-Men were gone and thats why Logan and Xavier were alone. Logan having to struggle to take care of an unwell Xavier by himself. if they suddenly turned up at the end it would throw alot of the plot into question. like oh they were alive... why were they not around? why were Xavier and Logan alone? why was there all this emphasis on them being gone in a tragic event? and you really couldn't throw any real exposition in at the end either because the moment logan dies the story is over and it stops being about logan. which is why the story ended fairly soon after Logan's death because there was nothing else to tell..

They managed to avoid alot by keeping it ambiguous.

I can’t wait for the reviews of this film to pump the brakes on the unnecessary negativity towards it. It will definitely score above the 80s and have great rewatch value. Crisp editing, solid prose driven edgy direction and practical over fanciful.

I always looked at it as because Logan was the only person able to move during his episodes, just as X-23 was able to. They were able to movie because their brain can continuously heal itself. Being near the others put them all at risk and Xavier would have wanted them to continue his work as a priority, his work being creating a safe place for mutants, now a dying species. He wouldn’t want to risk their lives, especially having killed a few of the people he loved already.

I don't expect it to score super duper low. Even Apocalypse landed a 47% (which is nowhere near bottom of the barrell scores) but I would be surprised if it lands in the 80s.

so far what has been shown puts this film above XMA, the rumors leaked months ago also said that this film is better than XMA but does not reach the level of DOFP

with all this I can see this movie with something between 70-75%, and I would be happy with it, it would be a decent ending ..

Interesting to see their not pushing the female empowerment angle much for Dark Phoenix, which is a big relief because I'm tired of these types of movies pushing agendas on-the-nose through every means. But if they did, you can bet the rotten tomatoes score would be a lot higher.

Not sure if anyone has seen John Wick 3 yet but there are some spoilers in this article. But it’s so true. For an Oscar winning actress Hollywood has not been fair to Halle. I feel like she still hasn’t been forgiven for the Catwoman movie. It’s such a shame because she’s awesome and I hope after John Wick 3 she gets better roles again. It’s kind of sad because look at Ben Affleck or the cast of the recent Fantastic 4. Who’s careers are still intact. Box office flops would ruin top careers and Halle copped the brunt of that unfairly.

After 'John Wick 3,' it's time for the Halle Berrenaissance to begin
Agreed. She should have been much more highly featured than she has been to this point. She is a phenomenal actress.

I don't think it's all due to the "Catwoman" flop. Her ego may have played a part in her not getting better roles. It's happened to Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Eddie Murphy and even Will Smith... to a much, MUCH smaller extent. She may have burned bridges. Turned down meaty supporting roles just because they weren't starring roles. Turned down starring roles because of money.

Often there's much more than meets the eye. I often wondered why Michael Biehn's career went the way it went. He's a GREAT actor. Turns out he made some bad career choices, was an alcoholic and turned down the wrong scripts, which may have helped him get his career back on track. Of course some of it may be due to Hollywood not seeing his true value, but it wasn't just that.

And I think it's a mix of things for Halle Berry, as well.

Look at Keanu Reeves. He basically disappeared for a couple of years from mainstream cinema. Made some bad ones. Made some indies. Made some quirkier pics. Probably without any ego involved. And he made his huge comeback with "John Wick," a smaller action pic from a couple of first-time feature film directors, which probably made him much less many than he was used to from his big budget blockbusters and action movies. Many actors should follow suit.

Mel Gibson is basically doing the same. He's working through smaller, but interesting movies, without the pretense to only star in studio movies or make as much money as back in the 1980s and 1990s.

Y’all are way too optimistic lol, I think it will do just enough for a fresh rating. 60%, but obviously a higher rt is welcome.

The Jessica Chastain meeting Jean clip has her Chastain talking about men trying to control Jean. But here I think it definelty meant as a power move to control Jean.

Dark Pheonix is actually quite interesting because it about the abuse/corruption of power by a woman.
I actually think that may help the RT Score, as we don't really see that in a superhero context most of the time women are strong and powerful (which I don't mind at all).

The only thing I've seen that seem to be on the nose with female empowerment (again I don't have any issue with it) is when Mystqiue suggest s they should rename the team X-Women because they save them all the time.
But even then it seems said more out of anger because Xavier is forcing Jean into more extreme and life threatening situations, while he just sits back in cerebro.

At least better than what I initially expected.

I think it looks better than Apocalypse which is all I want.
Ditto. I'll take TLS over Apocalypse (and Origins: Wolverine) any day.
TLS isn't boring at least and is 45 minutes shorter. Plus it has Kitty Pryde

So you'd have a problem with an X-MEN movie pushing a social agenda? smh

Same here.

The scenes filmed in the subbasement/jet look much better. I also think the color grading is much better than Apocalypse and X3.

The costumes though, the back is plain and the pants look like ordinary slacks.

Before citing possible ego (completely heresay, btw) and other issues, let's not forget that Halle cannot even audition/seek a role in like 90% of the movies being made in Hollywood. There are zero starring roles for her in ALMOST ALL period movies, romances, romantic comedies, biographical movies, etc.

I think for a woman of color, it's pretty much impossible to keep a momentum going for any long period of time, unfortunately. What I've always appreciated about Halle is that she started trying to make opportunities for herself as early as she could (fighting hard to get Dorothy Dandridge made and such).

What is the rumored run time?

Aladdin was getting terrible pre-release buzz and now that has surprisingly great reviews. Maybe the same could happen here?

The movie you cited is no longer a good example.
I hope DP does not have the same path
