Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Yeah it’s not about spoilers whatsoever. Like @JP said, this isn’t Endgame. They know spoilers are out, what’s left to keep secret? I mean, I’ve been leaking the entire thing for months lol.

I think it’s about the staggering of releases. Every movie this season has the embargo lift so close to release because of the press workload. This year is packed in ways we haven’t seen before. Godzilla comes out in a few days and has been 100% completed for over 6 months.

This movies red carpet has been fluctuating between the 3rd and 4th for months now, which is late for a red carpet premier.

You’re probably right. I hope so.

But Disney literally did the same thing with Aladdin. Granted it didn’t matter. People are loving that film regardless of the not so hot reviews.

I get the logic on embargoes but I still wonder why Apocalypse didn't use that tactic. Were Fox surprised by the negative reaction?

Is there a positivity thread or something? Obviously anyone who anticipates this movie should feel bad about it.
Hey all I think just take a chill a bit. For anyone who’s excited and positive they shouldn’t feel like they can’t be leading into the films release. I think that’s fair let’s keep it a discussion rather then attack anyone who has hopes this does well

Fox didn't care if the movie got good or bad reviews. That's why they lifted the embargo so early. They just wanted the word out that an X-men movie was coming.

Apparently the awareness factor for the movie was very low.

Aladdin is incredibly mixed, for instance, one Comingsoon review was a 5 and the other a 9 lol. I’ve heard great things about Godzilla’s test screens but reviews have yet to come out. Detective Pikachu had decent reviews and the embargo lifted days before it came out as well. Rocket man is getting great reviews which the embargo for that lifted on the 14th, but so did John Wick 3 and that embargo also lifted a few days before the release.

It’s getting harder and harder to tell the motivation behind review embargo dates these days and workload is a huge factor in it.

Let’s see!

This screams Disney Marketing in all the best ways.

Ummm...Deadpool has more merch AND TOYS FOR KIDS than most X-men not named Wolverine. And I would argue he's got more merch and toys than Wolverine, right now.

When Marvel releases merch with limited character selection, Deadpool is usually one of the top 10 after Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Hulk, Spidey, Black Widow, and one of the Guardians. Sadly he's the biggest X-character right now, usurping Wolverine's standing.

Anyways, you guys really think a movie that spoiled that Dark Phoenix killing Mystique in their trailer is worried about spoilers?
I don't even consider Deadpool as a X-Men character anymore, i didn't even know his eXistence until X-Men Legends 2. I thought FoX was lucky that they had the rights for him. Technically, Black Panther, the first Mutant Sub-Mariner and the Inhumans are Fantastic Four characters since they were introduced in Fant4stic comics and Medusa/Crystal are prominent characters to the Fant4stic and T'challa joined the team, Namor didn't debut in Fant4stic but he was prominent in F4/also in the X-Men, yet foX didn't have them.

Goodzila is not being well received by critics
hope this helps DP mainly in china

Her voice in the end of that 10 days spot is very diferent, i liked it!

Im revisiting the last movies... DOFp is very good! One of the best super herói movies ive seen!
Apocalipse could have been greater and bigger but its not that bad! A solid entretaitnment! Great set pieces like the beggining, the apoc speech/release havoc scene, the astral fight/jean unleashed, and the score is great!

I think that's Jean speaking via telepathy due to the "echoey" sound effect.

I'm old enough to remember the initial premise of this movie back in 2017 saying there was going to be a big world-changing, earth-shattering twist to the plot and they've also stopped selling it as that.

It was meant to change the comic book genre forever

Here's the quote from ew.com:
"Based partially on Chris Claremont’s comic, Phoenix will feature some of the series’ biggest set pieces to date, including the X-Men’s first trip to outer space. It’s also the most sinister, and somber, chapter in the saga and includes a massive twist halfway through that will irrevocably change the course of the franchise."

Well thats not change the comic book genre forever.

Im old enough to remember that people on here can be so overdramatic.

LOL, I remember that. The massive twist ended up being the Disney deal.

Also, IIRC, there were some quotes saying the movie was meant to revolutionize superhero movies. I think it was from Sheridan, maybe.

Who are you calling overdramatic? Perhaps quote posts if you are going to be accusatory.

Was probably the same interview where he unnecessarily brought up MCU, out of nowhere.

They can. I remember a lot of people saying the X-Men franchise will "dead" and will lose their social and political message, which is in their very essence, once Disney take over.

Oddly those are some of the least dramatic things to get said on here.

Remember how Disney wouldn't release Dark Phoenix. or how they wouldn't market the film very well because it is FOX X-Men. now THAT is dramatic.

I remember the embargo for Apocalypse was lifted something like 2-3 weeks ahead of the US release and the scathing reviews piled on for so long.
It probably planted a lot of doubt in the general populace that it lowered the XMA first weekend gross significantly.

To prevent that , I'm sure that's why they're doing a standard embargo lift 2 days before release. It's best business wise to get the most money in the first weekend before it falls to to other blockbusters and before word of mouth spreads.

Rememeber how Disney wouldn't release Dark Phoenix. or how they wouldn't market the thing because its the filthy FOX X-Men. now THAT is dramatic.
Kudos on changing the subject from Fox saying "this is a game-changer" to now blaming the audience.
