Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Received good response from my viewing. From the casual movie goers of course. The movie is no where near a disaster like they are making it to be. Better than Apocalypse & Last Stand from my opinion.

People are gonna look at that RT score and assume this is Fox’s Jonah Hex though. Lol

I would have both Charles and Erik missing and presumed dead for the Marvel Studios reboot. There's no need to go over that well-trodded ground again. Put Jean and Scott in Charge of Xavier's School with Emma and the residents of Massachusetts Academy as the baddies.
Charles being dead before the X-Men are even introduced? That sounds like something Fox would do (no offense). Charles needs to be in the first movie. Unlike Erik, he's basically the foundation of the franchise. They just don't have to focus on him. Thats like dropping Aunt May from Spider-Man or Alfred from Batman.

And there are actually a dozen Charles-essential stories from the comics that Marvel can explore in this version that Fox never used

Storm and Cyclops are safe.
I hope Psylocke, Rogue, Angel, Gambit, Polaris, Dazzler, Jubilee, Emma Frost and Iceman are safe too.

Though I don't know what they'll do with Colossus especially if they are keeping the Deadpool films under the foX banner. I couldn't care less about Cable and Domino, but Colossus is a core X-Men member.

Charles being dead in the comics was the age of apocalypse storyline. Magneto became the core foundation of the xmen forming the team. This is just one more reason to show the franchise should have ended with DOFP and Logan. DOFP in particular as Mathew Vaughn originally planned.

Kinberg and Singer instead chose to go with Apocalypse they said was based on AOA. Only difference is Charles is well alive.

Vaughn wanted Tom Hardy as older Wolverine when Jackman already showed up as Logan 10 years earlier.

He’s also said Wolverine would be the only new character in the movie. No thanks.

No Mystique in MCU at all.
Wait till the third MCU film to even introduce Magnus and Wolverine.

Charles should be in there from the beginning but have a M or Q level of involvement from the old Bond films.
(basically one or 2 exposition scenes in the beginning and the end)

My fear is the MCU trying to differentiate by not using certain core characters. Kind of like how Peter and May are the only characters from the Sony movies who carried over to Homecoming.
Marvel still used Peter, Flash, May and Betty Brant.

Cyclops and Storm are guaranteed. I think Jean will stay on because she's essential to the Mr. Sinister story and Marvel will probably want to explore.

As for everybody else, whoever got the short end of the schtick i.e Rogue, Bishop, Colossus, Dazzler, Warren, Psylocke, Gambit, Emma, Jubilee etc i could see coming back. As well as the unused classic members like Forge, Longshot, Sunfire etc. Fox used almost all of the classic X-Men introduced between 1963 and 1999. But almost all of them were fodder or special effect tech demos. So we're in luck.

Mystique will come to the MCU, it's just a matter of time.

Deeply disappointing that Kinberg managed to ruin Dark Phoenix TWICE. And that now Marvel probably won't ever adapt it.

But I guess we're lucky he at least decided to ruin the same storyline again instead a new one?

I need Rogue done right in the MCU. And that requires Mystique involved in her origin story.

I want Rogue starting very young and as part of the Brotherhood, influenced by her mother Mystique, then leading up to that incident with Carol.

I had enough of FOX running away from important elements of the books, like the family relationships. I want Raven as both Rogue and Kurt's mother.

This thing was awesome, big step up from Apocalypse. Don't listen to the usual-suspect Negative Nancies, oh-Over-20s. It's not X1/X2/DoFP/Logan good, but it tops any of the others. Worth a theater viewing, no question. Kinberg's pretty much second only to Singer & Magold as far as the post-2000 superhero flick, it's above average. Raimi/Nolan sequel level stuff.

Kinberg is not second to Singer and Mangold or Raimi/Nolan. Please can you show me his body of work as a writer and director?

You just insulted Michael Vaughn. a man who has written and directed 3 good comic movies. Kickass,The Kingsman and First class.

Vaughn wanted Tom Hardy as older Wolverine when Jackman already showed up as Logan 10 years earlier.

He’s also said Wolverine would be the only new character in the movie. No thanks.

Jackman showing up in First Class played off more as a tribute to Jackman. it's almost like a 4th wall. He is not called Wolverine in the film.

Secondly they can just change the actor. Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal look nothing alike and both played Rachael in the TDK series.Same goes for Ed Norton and Mark Ruffalo. Both played Hulk in the MCU.

I am bringing up Vaughn because he has proven himself to be among the best comic directors and writers ever. Kickass, Kingsman, First Class. DC was trying to nail him for man of steel 2. So let's not get over our heads in displaying blind hypocrisy since everyone has done a recast. Vaughn is a nerd god compared to Kinberg as a film maker and his first class trilogy version would have been excellent because he gets it.

PRESUMED dead. In comic book terms, that's not all that deceased.

And there's absolutely no reason to have Chuck in the MCU series from the get go. He can be a presence without making an appearance. There are lots of great X-Men stories where he is either gone or barely in the picture, so let's do some of those instead of having the two Old Friends - who it turns out were never friends at all - dominate the proceedings yet again. Let's give some other mutants room in which to breathe.

I suspect we won't see Iceman for quite a long time. The rest depends on the scripts really. Though I also think people should be wary about the character treatment in the MCU as well. Not in regards to their personality or at least basic character traits, but somehow people seem to be under the impression we'll have like 20 well developed main characters in one movie at any given time.

You can't possibly know who in that crowd was a die hard fan and who wasn't.

I think the majority of them are the casual movie goers since they didn't know much about the X-Men at the event before the screening :D

Wow the Peter Travers review is killer. This is the guy who usually has good pull quotes even for X3 and XMA. He destroyed this.

Founder and creator of the X-Men? The founder and creator of the school, which is named after him? The X-Men named after him? If anything, it makes no sense to not have him in the movie. This Is not X-Men 4 or 3 or even 2, this is their introduction to the MCU. The ground rules have to be established first before they start hacking away at the status quo of the franchise. Firstly, the X-Men and what they stand for has to be defined in the MCU and you can't do that without Xavier as hes the reason why there's a franchise. You don't have to have him butting heads with Erik, you can have him in the background while the X-Men get the focus. Think Odin in Thor or May in Homecoming. Just have him go to Muir Island in X-Men 2 if you want him out

Charles going missing could be a major plot point for a future movices. Like getting stranded in space with the Starjammers for example

Good point. Still not a good look when you as a director put in one actor for one film and recast another actor in your next. One that has shown a willingness to return and one that the fans were still accepting of.

Not a fan of any of those movies. Sorry.

Woah calm down with the name calling buddy.

Can’t argue with that.

His First Class and Kingsman after it shows he’s better suited to spy movies. Let’s leave the X-men to filmmakers who actually, truly get it.

Big fan of Vaughn (as a director not a person) but I don’t think he’s right for X-Men. As someone pointed out, he doesn’t really understand female characters. And X-Men has some of the greatest female characters in comics. Something we’ve never seen in the movies.

Yeah, he really did. I was wondering what his opinion would be, and it isn’t good to say the least. “Anyone for a mercy killing?” Damn.

The changes in FC weren't Vaughn's fault. Since they weren't a full-on reboot, Vaughn had to fit his movie in with pre-established continuity. And it had to connect to the OT -- So the choices and changes were basically mandated.

Now the Hellfire Club was wasted but that's what happens when you try to do an origin story and have to balance 25 characters in the movie. Vaughn still made one of the best movies in the franchise with all of that pressure on his shoulders

Even Mark Hughes gave it a poor review, and that guy likes everything (Fantastic Four included!)

I'm still gonna watch and form my own opinion, but...
