Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

My fear is the MCU trying to differentiate by not using certain core characters. Kind of like how Peter and May are the only characters from the Sony movies who carried over to Homecoming.
I don't think that's only to do something that wasn't done before, it may related with the complicated contract and whatever stupid plans Sony has in the works.
If they had an Aunt May movie in the works, it wouldn't surprise me theyve thought up of a JJonah movie, and that's why MCU cant use him... or something along those lines.

I saw a few meltdowns on Twitter from FoX-stans that are something to read. Basically blaming Disney for the “death of the superhero movie” by them “making nothing but comedies”...it’s old untrue argument that straight up just shows how deep their denial is.

This movie’s problem was not it’s cast or story concept, but it’s writer, director and execution, it failed on its own, just as Deadpool, Logan and Days of Future Past succeeded on their own.

Kinberg really, really messed up picking Dark Phoenix as the last story and retreading something he already had a hand in messing up. Mr Sinister could have been done great (as long as Kinberg was not directing) and would have been different.
Amen

Of the X men characters , I see Magneto, Wolverine, and Deadpool being integrated in the MCU first. Magneto is Wanda's father so its easier to slip him in without that much of a fuss. Wolverine could also appear in a separate MCU film without needing to be an X Man yet. Deadpool is hit so they aren't gonna walk away from the money on the table.

Alot of the other characters I suspect, they could afford to wait a little bit as far as introducing them into the MCU fabric. Even Xavier could wait until proper X Men solo MCU film.
Wolverine has been completely over saturated for the past 20 years. Appearing in almost every single X-Men film, three solo ventures and played by the same actor for the whole run. The general public thinks of wolverine as synonymous with Hugh Jackman. I'm fairly certain they'll wait a good while before introducing him to the MCU and, honestly, that's a good thing. As for Deadpool, hasn't it already been said in an interview that his appearance in the MCU will be in separate "stand alone" films? Much like his last two, they weren't really connected to any of the other X-Men films. And Magneto? He's another one that's been focused on WAY too much recently. I'll be fine if we don't see him for a while. And we also have no idea if they will keep him as Wanda's father. There are a lot of characters that deserve recognition than those three.

The Observer thinks it lacks humour - apart from the obligatory F-bomb that is shoehorned into every movie just because it worked in First Class

The One Thing ‘Dark Phoenix’ Needed That the MCU Could Have Provided

I said a few days ago that it would atleast be a relief seeing a serious, drama style superhero movie again given the pseudo comedies thats come out recently like Endgame, Shazam and Captain Marvel.

But Dark Phoenix went overkill to the point the movie is monotoned after the space sequence - ultra serious and ultra dark 100% of the time. And it doesn't work. I dont particularly like MCU comedy but Dark Phoenix badly needed some light moments inserted at regular points to relieve the drab mood and give us a break from the heavy handedness. It was just scene after scene of talking and reacting. This is where Singer is a superior director. That airplane argument in Dofp between magneto and Prof X is intense and highly dramatic. The scene ends with a well timed joke by Logan "arent you gonna pick that sh*t up?" to relieve the tension. Followed by a transitional scene to a nightclub in Paris for a chilled out scene where the Vietnam general is partying to enjoyable music.

Kinberg didnt achieve any balance with his scene editing, writing or transition.

I still remember that time before TLS came out, when he and Zak Penn were answering questions on a random X-Men Message Board, constantly assuring fans that they'd be satisfied with how Cyclops and Rogue would be treated.

Dude is not worth trusting when it comes to X-Men. Never has been.
It was the Xverse. Run by Matt and Ted, who were also hype members. I helped them as mod for a bit.
And yeah, Kinberg lied through his teeth then, and has continued to lie throughout his entire career. Which is why those of us who care to remember, knew this movie was a mistake from day 1.

I agree with Wolverine and Deadpool, but I'm thinking Mr. Lensherr will go on hiatus after playing major roles in all seven Fox X-Men films. As for the others, my thinking is characters with strong ties to pre-existing MCU franchises will be first in the queue - Storm in Black Panther, Rogue in Captain Marvel and Beast in Avengers. Maybe Firestar and Iceman in Spider-Man: Home Again?

Does foX even have the rights for Firestar? I wouldn't mind her showing up in the mcu, but I think she's more like a Spider-Man character to me than X-Men.

I remember the X verse!

one of the things I'm most looking forward to when MCU xmen happen is Storm being set free and actually be a character
she's a billion dollar franchise waiting to happen
She has no friendship with jean in this movie and is used just as a special effects prop. Prob worse than Last Stand.

I'm not interested in solo movies, but I'd like to see MCU dare to have squads very early on. One X-Men movie is led by Storm, then the other is led by Cyclops, then their squad would cameo in each other movies. Then both of their squads will unite in the third film for that epic mutant film. Something like that. And I'd like to see the other psychics, like Jean and Psylocke use the Cerebro and not just Xavier. The Danger Room in X3 was so half baked, that I have a feeling mcu would do a danger room scene in such a grand way.

I don't want solo project neither but She can lead a team I meant to say and she leading a team can do a billion

Well you could still have a "solo" movie with a team aspect, much like Captain America: Civil War. Now the focus was on Cap US, but that was pretty much an Avengers film in all but name. It was Avengers with Cap as the main character, much like we've had X-Men movies by Fox with Wolverine as the main character and everyone else in supporting roles.

You could potentially have a Cyclops "solo" movie where it features the X-Men, but he is the main focus and driving force. Same with some other characters.

Jesus effin Christ man

I will never forgive Singer or Kingberg for having storm be a fangirl for Mystique in these latest movies
I can't roll my eyes back enough on that scene in XDOFP

Storm idolizing Mystique was a huge turn off , as was Apocalypse giving her white hair (that she was born with originally).

I’ll wait to watch dark Phoenix when it’s leaked online. Will not spend a penny on this garbage that Kinberg created. He’s the worst.

I do feel like I missed out not participating in that Q&A. To this day, I don’t know what I was doing to have missed it lol
If that's the case, there were apparently more than 1 reasons for it. I think Anna Paquin wasn't very available was said in the commentary and they wanted to justify why she's been gone.
Ratner shot 2 alternate endings to Rogue’s storyline. One of them was of Rogue NOT taking the cure. You could very well have a storyline of Marie, going to take the cure because life is hard for someone who can’t touch anyone. Because she wasn’t available to shoot the third act battles.

AND THEN NOT TAKE THE CURE. Rogue showing up at the mansion, cured is a slap in the face for what this franchise, this IP, THE X-MEN means to the fans.

There’s someone here who has seen it before the rest of us and for over half a year, he seems to think it was justified for Jean to (re?)acquire the “force” when she already had it in Apocalypse. I’m struggling to remember what the exc...planation was.

But i still prefer the movie to have the X-Men in the title. And I don't want to see a Cyclops or Storm solo movie either, if thats just gonna mostly feature the X-Men. Just call it a X-Men movie then.

Civil War is another thing and I'm not gonna dwelve on that, though that being said, I would have like a CA3 movie with mostly CA characters while CW being titled as Avengers: Civil War. Especially Sharon Carter and Crossbones didn't have much role in CA3.

Seating so far for my showing tonight. Not exactly full yet, but people are showing.

I've been questioning that since I saw the trailer.

They could easily have written something in to explain it (presuming they haven't, as I've not seen the movie yet).

Something along the lines of: Jean was born with a strange fragment of a mysterious otherworldly power, like she is destined for something great and terrible. The cosmic Phoenix Force sought her out and is pushing her towards that destiny.

That's too clever for this creative team, though...
