I think the score is pretty fair. Previous entries that fell short have had standout moments yet ultimately didn't come together. The feeling I had watching Dark Phoenix was that it was consistently sub-par. It was "alright" for most of the run-time, and may have had less abrasive moments than others. It was just constantly mediocre. Kinberg was totally unprepared for the responsibility.

Also worth remembering the context these films arrived in. I'm sure TLS and Origins would fare worse with today's expectations.

Chastain criticized Singer a lot without knowing him.

Given everything that is known about Bryan Singer's behavior, off-and-on set, Chastain was perfectly justified in criticizing him. The man is unprofessional, not to mention allegedly a predator. One doesn't need to personally know Singer in order to criticize his actions.

Watching this in a few hours and with expectations at a sub zero level im just hoping to be entertained the way Suicide Squad did.

Haven't watched the movie yet but damn the soundtrack is gorgeous. I love the tracks "Gap", "Dark" and "Coda".

Wow Fox this how you go out not with a Bang but a disappointment. First off how in the world do you screwed up The Phoenix again?! For all the fault of X-men the last Stand at least it pays attention to it narrative and continuity. This movie practically forgets Days of Future and most of X-men Apocalypse. What the bloody hell was that Xavier?! All credit to Macvoy who did the best he could with the script but theirs no excuse for that kind of character direction. So basically Chastain race is a knock off mixture of the Skrulls and downgrade version of the Shi-ar empire.... Ugh the dialogue cring worthy and omg you did Quicksilver dirty.

Congratulation @icekid & @The Original Bamfer

You were both right. It's proved once again that you both are trusted scooper. Unlike certain *other* people.
I don't know who these *other* people you are dragging but these two people you are naming also both said the movie WAS great. LMAO

I'm pretty sure these two would rather you not talk about them, showing to people what a colossal mistake it was for them to defend this movie against all odds.

I haven't seen it yet but those numbers are just insane. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. No Wolverine/Hugh Jackman, the OG cast in general not being there (I think the poor First Class cast's popularity in general probably got overstated in general with them getting the Apocalypse story and the 2nd shot at DP over the OGs), Phoenix story being done twice, the awkwardness of a prequel story being used as the final film in a series, the trailers sucking hard, and the disney future of X-Men breathing down their necks. But i guess the problem for me is that it looks like the film has no new ideas. It seems so rinse and repeat. But we'll see after I see it.

I mean who's really interested in another First class cast prequel. Apocalypse had a huge drop from Dofp. 65 vs 90 for a total of 154 vs 234. And Apocalypse was a sequel to a well received film. This was destined to underperform just because the cast doesn't resonate with the general public. Deadpool in the other hand, didn't need multiple films to get people's interest, despite Deadpool's only appearance was in Origins Wolverine. If people are interested, they will show up.

Obviously whoever in charge with the series was enamored by the First Class cast, the same company that let Kinberg play director.

This is like, the opposite of Endgame...in every way. It's insane that the MCU does a swan song, and it's so great (in half the time and films, no less), and Fox has had an embarrassment of riches with the X-Men films, had twice as long, half the movies to adhere to, and they just...I don't know...went on a bender of epic proportions after Apocalypse was deemed the worst X-Men movie since "The Last Stand", and they said, "We can top both of those"!

Going to watch First Class tonight...I think that would be a fine way to commemorate the death of this franchise.

I will say the chick that played Selene was fine as hell. Then I realized she's like an Instagram model so it was like, duh.

I personally would have loved a sequel to First Class with Vaughn that would have taken place closer to that film's ending. There's an energy to that film that I adore. Rewatched it yesterday and I still love it. But i haven't loved what's been going on with those version of the characters lately. Especially Mystique. She's the biggest drop in quality, especially compared to Rebecca's likable and kickass villainess.

From deadline:
That atrocious 23% Rotten Tomatoes score, the lowest for the franchise, means casual fans aren’t even going to attend. Just the hardcore ones. Three stars here from general audiences who turned up at 85% on PostTrak. Sixty percent guys last night, 40% females. A low 51% definite recommend. Guys loathe Dark Phoenix more than woman, 67% to 77%.

This reminds me of the old excuse some have used where they say “well, the GENERAL AUDIENCE loved X3” because of the box office numbers... even though that film still had horrendous legs. Actually, all the X Men films have horrendous legs. The general audience really hasn’t ever “loved” this series. They’ve shown up when the films get rave reviews (opening weekend only tho) but it’s never been a cultural must-see, or highly anticipated like it should be.

I'm intrigued to know Kinberg's plan for the Dark PhoeniX's sequel. I also wonder if FoX wasn't sold or if it went to Comcast, would there have been a third X-Men film for Sophie Turner and the younger cast members after these disastrous results?

IDK, but I loved it. This was everything BUT a trainwreak. The cinematography was beautiful and the direction more then competent - hard to believe this is Kinberg's directorial debut. Some of the editing was rather abrupt, but still it flowed very well. The esthetic was Apocalypse meets Logan. The score was phenomenally, really added a lot to the overall effectiveness of the visuals - the CGI was really good, which surprised me given XMen's track record. I agree that the movie should have been longer. The only emotional moment that was overdone was Raven's melodramatic death - JL didn't exactly phone-in this performance, but I was glad she was gone. The aftermath was great. Sophie Turner was wonderful - if she had a weakness in her performance it was at times wonkie accent, the rest was phenomenal.

This was a solid picture, nothing groundbreaking, but above Apocalypse, Last Stand, XMen and First Class, 2 first Wolverine movies for me.

Could only have guesses Comcast were more sebsible in their approach had they got Xmen rights and scrap the prequel line of films. Afterall they were willing to hedge 60 billion dollers and risk financial status of their company to acquire Fox entertainment

She looks fierce, though I wish they gave her a more comic accurate look like Psylocke Xpecially if she was just gonna stand there. She would at least look cooler and be more memorable. Having mentioned Psylocke, she and Olivia Munn dodged a bullet here.

I think Kinberg would have been fired, or at least get demoted to producer only status.

The cast, idk, Fox had a habit of running their franchises into the ground. Probably they would have tried one more film as a full on reboot would have been more time consuming for them. Or just focus on Deadpool 3 and the many spin offs (though Dark PhoeniX's underperformance/toxicity would have also killed those many spin offs).

And Channing Tatum would still be sat by the phone waiting for the call on Gambit, that was never gonna happen.

Even back when JLaw was first cast as Mystique I didn't understand it. Feels like they saw her Oscar nomination and just wanted to cast her as any female character they could, and Mystique was the one that made the most sense.

What are you talking about? Your entire arguement is subjective. The valid point is that they were right with the scoop. They literally said how the movie ends, 4 months before the release. It's proved that @icekid and @The Original Bamfer have reliable and trusted sources, unlike certain other people (New Mutants forum, you know...)
