Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Smaller means less people interested in the property, which means studio did something wrong, either with the last movie, the previous one, or both.

Normally its a mix of both

I am just wondering why Fox hasn’t released a small synopsis/press release, 1/2 min teaser trailer or cast poster yet? They skipped out on SDCC so you will think they want to keep the fans and GA interested and excited for the next chapter in the series.

Either they're dumping it to streaming or they are just lazy to promote it. Like I've said, it comes out five to seven weeks after Fox's Alita, yet Alita had a Sdcc presentation and Dark PhoeniX had no prop whatsoever. While Deadpool 2 had a panel for its blu ray release? Also most of us here were sure that it would show its trailer there but nadda! Shazam and King of Monsters were Also there and they come out after February. Oh Lord.

This is the worst time for this franchise as its unprecedented that the studio is not only facing a merger with you know a studio who's also making Marvel movies, but New Mutants is delayed 18 months, Gambit lost its director trice, no Hugh Jackman for more Wolverine appearance and of course Dark Phoenix. It really feels like the end of an era. While Deadpool might still be alive, it would be it's own island along with Sony non MCU films like Venom which just doesn't sound good.

I can’t really remember the promotion for Apolcapyse was it similar timeline to this? Because from the little I remember there seemed to be no promotion of Apocalypse either.

It does seem like a CBF approach at this point from Fox.

Pretty much. The first trailer for Apocalypse didn’t drop until mid December, and the movie opened in May. At that rate, the first trailer for Dark Phoenix would debut sometime in September.

But do you wanna bet that they will force Jennifer Lawrence in all posters, front and center all over again?

Fox will repeat the same mistakes.

She will be the one with the bird flames around her. People will think she is the Dark Phoenix. :o

Why repeat the promotion of Apocalypse? That didn't work

Hopefully the quality of the trailer is stronger. That was more so the issue. It just never looked great and too many didin't like what they were doing with Apocalypse himself.

If they can sell Jean/Phoenix better to audiences then the character of Apocalypse, they'll already be a step ahead without that backlash.

Well don't you think after having an early first look in Entertainment Weekly last year, they should have done something in Sdcc? If the film is still getting released in theaters, they are absolutely lazy not to promote there. Apocalypse FYI, had a sdcc presentation and the release window at that time was much longer. Now Shazam and Godzilla have more buzz than this one. While there's always next July for the New Mutants (if its not dumped to streaming). At this point, Fox's slow burn approach is just an excuse.

Its not coming out this week. We should have gotten a trailer rating in some site if that's the case, which would be the sign of an upcoming trailer being released.

Imagine if they lift the embargo 3 weeks before its North American release?

nah, Fox will lift it 1 hour before the release this time around, that leasson they did learn :funny:

Google image search Xmen Apocalypse official posters. I see 1 that is "Jennifer Lawrence front and center" of many.

well, lets take a look at the movie official poster:

X-Men--Apocalipsis.jpg

where are the actual iconic female X-Men, Jean and Storm?
on the background, much behind Raven Lawrence.

magazines?

where is Mystique? first in line.

any other way to try to twist this proven fact? nah? ok.

I’m not defending the fact that Mystique’s been thrust into an undeserving role, but you can’t really blame the marketing for putting her front and center when she had a lead role in the film. As for future campaigns, yeah, she’ll probably be in the front, too, because her actress is an A-list, box office draw, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be a main character this time around. Marketing is meant to get butts in the seats, whether that means accurately representing the product or not. I don’t care what the posters try to sell me so long as the film’s good. First Class had some terrible posters and promotional images, but it still wound up being my favorite film in the franchise.

But I’m not a fan of Lawrence’s Mystique in Apocalypse, so I hope she has a relatively small role and is [blackout]killed off[/blackout] somewhat early on in the film. Even if so, she’ll still be plastered all over the advertising. Oh well.

problem is Fox overestime her audience impact. the whole fanbase is against her character and getting that much exposure, so this leads to negative word of mouth, something really important, a studio should know better how to control word of mouth.

and Jennifer outside of Hunger games hasnt have big boxoffice hits, so once again, the studio is messing the franchise big time with this push. Its like they are totally clueless about what the audience/fanbase wants from this property, and they keep ****ing it up over and over, loosing audience in the process. What more does Fox needs to open their eyes??

they keep forcing her and her character, and the facts are that its not working. the fanbase is saying No out loud, and this negative buzz is hurting the property. But again... execs are clueless and dont give a damm about source material. Then they get dissapointed with these mediocre numbers dont knowing why. if only they hired people real fan and respectful with the source material......

That I agree with X-Men with Mystique as a main draw is a mistake, however, nothing about this film has indicated she would take the shine away from Sophie quite the opposite in fact. Also she will be in full makeup for the film save for an obligatory blonde Raven scene so I think we have that, if nothing else, to look forward to.

You can't even tell that's Mystique in those posters. It's just Jennifer Lawrence

even tho official trailer was dropped in december, five months before release.
Apocalypse had SDCC 2015,July and had comic con trailer.
and M&M collab was announced in october (7 months before release).

so this is disappointing.
just like someone said, they should do more and change plan considering it didn't work for apocalypse at all.

(+dofp had trailer in october, 7 months before release and sdcc too.)

That's my point at least in Dark Phoenix she won't be blonde Raven the entire time and will stay in her actual form throughout the film. And to be fair Fox never really put anyone but Halle Berry in the front with Hugh's Logan for similar reasons they do it with Lawrence.

They are trying to sell these films to as wide of an audience as possible.
