Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

There is a video on instagram with Nicholas hoults where he says with Dark Phoenix they wanted to push hank into a new area we haven't seen him before, he had always been "quite worried and reluctant about his powers" and they wanna explore a different side to him and possibly abit more of a darker relevance within him.

Links here but you may not be able to hear it very well

This actually matches with the leak report. Dunno how I feel about that though

Hmmm, don’t really like the sound of that.

Yup the leaked report that Beast sides with Magneto.

All the supposedly “fake news” about this movie are starting get confirmed.

To be honest, we've kinda known Beast would take a different route since September :

Hoult’s contract with 20th Century Fox was up after X-Men: Apocalypse, Hoult’s third time playing Beast. Hoult was lured back for more by the promise of an interesting new direction for the character from Simon Kinberg.“It's very different for Beast this time around, and that was part of the appeal for doing the movie for me,” Hoult tells Entertainment Tonight Canada at the Toronto International Film Festival “Simon Kinberg, who wrote and is directing this time, and he has great ideas for where he wanted the character to go, so it was exciting.”

But yeah that leak seems to be true after all.

They spent so long on this film and quality does take time!

Eh, that was known about Beast well before the big Reddit summary. Not that that invalidates the claims, though. I don’t really care either way. The content of said “spoilers” wasn’t all that bad, really, as long as it’s handled well. That’s the part that concerns me. I don’t mind the film sharing some similar story beats with TLS as long as the execution and conclusion is different. After all, it was established in DoFP that even an altered past may take a familiar course. That’s really giving Kinberg the benefit of the doubt, though. So, I’m waiting until we get something substantial before I hop off this fence.

are you guys talking about potential spoilers openly?
isnt that against the rules of the board? I had no idea about that Beast tidbit.
so not cool

Do you anticipate the action scenes to be far better choreographed than Singer’s sequences? Besides the white house attack and x-mansion wolverine fight, Singer is very D-grade at action in X-men films. Apocalypse fight scenes were quite piss poor and better action scenes have been shot in the 70s. I hope Kinbergsy can really portray the group working as a full scale team with strategies and tactics to win. A well shot group action scene like in Avengers would be great. I have a feeling though they will be very lackluster, static, choppy and boring with no sense of flow. There will be so much talking involved and too much dialog if the prior scripts are anything to go by

With the film taking our heroes to space for the first time, producer Hutch Parker teased one of the biggest set pieces in the franchise to date while discussing the scale of X-Men: Dark Phoenix:

"They might be the biggest set pieces we’ve ever done. The space [set piece] is one of the biggest things we’ve ever done. Overall visual effects, scale of action and spectacle, it’s probably the biggest we’ve done but much more in the service of these characters and their conflict than for scale sake."

Dark Phoenix marketing has started in Brazil

Cinépolis is a Mexican chain of movie theaters. Cinépolis is the biggest cineplex chain in Mexico with 427 theaters in 97 cities. It is also the largest chain in Latin America and the fourth largest in the world

Sounds really awesome! I hope the space scenes and sets are really well done. That would be amazing to see x-men in space fighting dark phoenix

I also hope the film has well done action scenes.
I think it was always a weakness of the x-men movies, singer seemed to not like very long action scenes, he always made abrupt cuts in the action scenes, it bothered me, it seemed that he always wanted to shorten these scenes.
I hope simon with the good team that is around him, can do quality action scenes and on a larger scale, I want to see the x-men working as a team.

And Richard Norton working on the fight choreography for Dark Phoenix. He choreographed the fight scenes for Mad Max: Fury Road :xmen:

With a solid team, Dark Phoenix should have some pretty decent action. Big set pieces are extensively planned and visually choreographed. Even if Kinberg proves to be an inept director, these sequences will be the work of a ton of skilled people. You'd hope all this time will eliminate the shoddy effects that plagued Apocalypse too.

Singer was never great with large set-pieces, his strength was in intricate power displays like the iconic Nightcrawler and Quicksilver sequences. I thought DOFP was a step forward, but man Apocalypse was shoddy (outside of one more confined sequence - the Pyramid attack in the intro)

Yes... THAT is a solid team.

Erik thanks for that info. That crew info has me a lot more pumped about the movie. I truly hope the trailer is great and blows people away. It would be a great closing hurrah to this x-men universe if this film succeeds!

So for FoX-Men sake, I wonder when exactly in this new timeline does Rogue and Iceman appear because technically after DOFP shouldn’t they atleast be in DP?

No. X-Men was released in 2000 and takes place in the “not too distant future.” Dark Phoenix is set in 1992.

The film is set in the 90s. While X1 was obviously set in the 2000s. If Disney didn't buy FoX, Kinberg could be directing the next film after Dark PhoeniX, (assuming the film doesn't crash and burn) which could feature newer versions of Rogue, Kitty, Iceman and maybe Colossus. We would never know unless Kinberg makes an interview someday about what would be his story for a Dark PhoeniX sequel. But I'm relieved there won't be a sequel to this.

Off topic, I'm loving that the X-posters are in the top five posters with the most liked post. Congrats Endzone, X-Maniac and Frankeh. SumT and Alison Blaire are also in the list!
