Did you miss this part of the post (2nd sentence in a 2 sentence post)? "That goes for the other studios and filmmakers when they do it too." I was specifically thinking of Coulson when I said that. Is he a great character to you? These attitudes are the reason why so many fans aren't happy with the Fox coverage of their favourite characters after 18 years of films. They know how to nail the select few and don't really care about the other main characters, even the leaders of the team. That was probably why they thought it was ok to make Logan the male lead in the X3 Dark Phoenix story instead of Cyclops - 'it doesn't matter which character you use, as long as that character is good'. At least now Kinberg is trying to correct that as he's probably realised that it was important after all.
Sorry, rereading my post it comes off as snarky which wasn’t the intent. I was also actually replying to SumT because the statement about it being offensive to viewers is funny to me when artistic lisence is taken by every comic book writer under the sun. For instance how many times have Wanda and Pietro been and not been magnetos children.
The point I was hoping to make was that Marvel added a film character into comics and it didn’t get much flak (I’m not a fan of Coulson but I’m sure there are some otherwise he wouldn’t be in a comic) and if they had their hands on these movies they would do the same with Chastains villain if she’s good. I’m not doing a Fox vs Marvel thing as I like both.
I get not liking license being taken when there is a plethora of characters (lilandra/Emma/mastermind) to choose from but I’m more the type of person that thinks of a character is good they’re okay in my book, even if they’re an amalgam of those characters above.
If Chastains character turns out to be the best villain we’ve had in these films I’m not going to complain that she isn’t Emma frost or Lady mastermind.
