Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Singer's and Kinberg's idea of a character arc means starting out their origins as their complete opposite. See McAvoy's Xavier. See JLaw's Mystique. See Tye's Cyclops. So far Hoult's Beast is still that shy, awkward kid from First Class. From 30 years ago.

Beast arc is, imo, one of Kinberg's best achievements in his scripts to date. It just happens that most fans cant appreciate this level of writing/development.

Boyscout Cyclops can be enjoyable just like boyscout captain America can be enjoyable.

Even when Cyclops was the by the book guy in the comics he still had a little edge to him and wasn't afraid to put wolverine in his place.

Marsden wasn't really given much to work with. Marsden was great on westworld the past two seasons
Boyscout Cyclops with an edge is how I want him introduced next time. Yeah, whatever someone's thoughts on Marsden, there was a lot more that could have been gotten out of him than we got.

It's a probably to wish someone a happy birthday?

James Marsden is perfect for a superhero role, as is Anna Paquin. I wouldn’t mind seeing them alongside x-23 and maybe Ellen Page

Cyclops was the orderly guy against Wolverines rebel. but the rebel is always gonna be more interesting then the guy telling you not to be a rebel.

Which is why i have always been onboard with seeing more sides to Cyclops then just christening him Leader at birth as his main reason to exist.

With Fox, I would have liked to see cyke lose his powers after Emma Frost messed with his head (and eventually fell in love with him), seeing cyclops face would have been a great twist for the franchise.

I suppose it's too late to say let's retract the claws?

A character who has barely had any personality, development and proper power display in the franchise, and you want to take away his powers? :/

Or the same way Charles don't need to be the "rebel" to be interesting. That was just a lame excuse.

OT Cyclops was never really written for the audience to root for.
Yep. Almost the entire characterization of Marsden's Cyclops revolved around his relationship to Jean. They didn't even get into Cyclops father/son, field commander/general relationship with Xavier.

Cyclops was primarily a foil to Wolverine and his attempts to get with his fiance Jean.

It is just weird that Mystique is a more defined character and has had better story arcs in live action X-Men movies than Cyclops.

Rather than "Cyclops", his codename could have been "Jean's Boyfriend" or "Logan's *****".

What else is there to take? :funny:

Should we make a thread for lists of recastings ideas of the Fox-Men actors in MCU roles? Or does one already exist somewhere?

All the X-Men suffered from this to some degree. Considering Logan didn't really become an X-Man until the end of X2, I have sometimes joked that the titular characters of X-Men were basically "The redhead Wolverine wants to bang", "The boyfriend of the redhead Wolverine wants to bang" and "The black chick Wolverine apparently doesn't want to bang even though she's single and just as pretty as the redhead... wait a second, is Wolverine some kind of a racist?"

And the thing is; Cyclops being Logan's foil doesn't even have to be a bad thing. Those two characters have great chemistry. Why not use that? But no. They had a few moments of witty banter but that's it.

They could have used it well, but they made it all one way so that Cyke just came off worse every time and was just there to make Wolverine look good.

Don't worry. This nightmare for almost all of our beloved characters will be over soon.
I don't really play favorites with my X-Men. There is a very small margin between the X-Man I like most and my 12th favourite. I can't believe how few of them have been given decent material in almost 2 decades. I like what we've got with Xavier and Magneto but the X-Men are also supposed to be an awesome field team with numerous great interrelationships within that. I want DP to be as good as possible, but after that I will very much be looking to the future.
