Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Third party means that companies are paid to collect people for screenings. That’s what is called “an official screening”. Now let’s say if there was an internal screening of the film for crew, cast, and friends of said people, that would be unofficial....

Oh, so you’re saying those types of screenings happened. That isn’t what the tweeters described though.

I’m saying I know one of them happened because I was there. I don’t care what the tweeters said because outside of that response, it is a tossup wih it being true or false, because I’m not active publicly on twitter. I’m on here. I can, however, say that the tweeter who said the movie is amazing and that they loved the scene with Jean and Storm is false. False AF.

Well it looks like it worked.
What did? Fox was hoping to have Alita playing during CNY, the country's biggest movie-going day of the year. It will now open 2 weeks after that. They failed in that regard.
If what worked is that Alita is in the Top 5, it was always projected to do well in China. China and Japan are probably the only territories that movie is expected to do well.

The big question marks are Alita in December in North America, Alita in February in North America, Dark Phoenix in November (Fox: "We didn't want to go head-to-head with a four-quadrant movie in The Nutcracker" that later bombed...), Dark Phoenix in February (Can't finish movie on-time because of extensive reshoots) and Dark Phoenix in June (Lots and lots and LOTS of four-quadrant movies in the summer).

I was referring to Dark Phoenix getting the attention of Chinese viewers.

Alita, the film that's taken over Dark Phoenix's old release date is also in the Top 5...

I don't even know what this debate is about. its one of the most anticipated 2019 film in China. thats good... why we do we need try and make that into a conspiracy or find a way to twist it into a negative?

Or am i asking a silly question?

Because Dark Phoenix is not MCU. That's all

The studio didn't know an X-men movie would do well in China. That's what this is all about. Fox and Kinberg only found out an X-men movie would do well in China after some social media startlet told her fans to watch the trailer. How ridiculous is that? Talk about a clueless studio, director and producer.

I couldn't care less about Captain Marvel, and I think it looks horrendous. With the rare exception of just now, you'll never see me compliment or complain about Captain Marvel. BECAUSE THIS IS THE X-MEN FORUM.

Not everything is about the MCU.

and Star Wars sequel isnt even on that list.

are we supposed to believe Dark Phoenix will do much more money than Star Wars now? :funny:

Yes Star Wars isn't big in China.

Marvel is. Marvel is very big in Asia. Any Marvel. Yes even X-men. Apparently Fox and Kinberg didn't get the memo.

In China? Very likely.
I was meaning ww.

one country is not the main deal, ww is. So I care about ww numbers more than anything, and we all know Lion King, Star Wars, Avengers, Spiderman and some more will all do more money than X-Men. and that is sad, being easily the best characters from the comics world.

Fox made a very calculated attempt to appeal to the Chinese market with DoFP. It was partly set in China (that monastery where the future showdown took place) and had a Chinese star in it (Blink).

Dark Phoenix doesn't have either of those things.

(On a slightly related note, I've just belatedly discovered the Netflix delight that is Sense8. OMG it's brilliant. And it has X-Men-type themes of human evolution and being hunted for being different. What's more, it juggles a multi-racial ensemble cast and includes gay, trans and lesbian characters. It rocks!)

That's fair enough but the poll you were questioning was about China. Good or bad Dark Phoenix is likely to get a nice bump from China's BO.

Yep.

X-Men: Apocalypse = $120,765,095

Logan = $106,226,155

Star Wars: The Force Awakens = $124,159,138

Star War: The Last Jedi = $42,577,974

Again they just discovered this fairly recently? It took you 2 mins to google that. Now, are Fox and Kinberg incompetent? Or are they just making up any excuse in the book for all the release date delays?

"We found out a lot of people watched the Dark Phoenix trailer in China so that's why we're moving it to a later date (which coincidentally means we can actually complete the movie because of the reshoots--but please don't pay attention to that--Oh look at that! China! Shiny!)."

I think they just wanted to ride the Captain Marvel hype if the word about the trailer release date is true.

Dark Phoenix doesn't have either of those things.

Neither did Apocalypse, and it outgrossed Days of Future Past. I’m not sure what that means for Dark Phoenix, though.
