Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Aside from post-credit scenes (clearly setting up sequels: Apoclypse in DoFP).
I've always felt like every main xmen film ends open ended; it could continue but could be left there and it would be fine.
Eg the end of Apocalypse we get the sense that the xmen have formed and will go out on missions.
Yeah, also coupled with Professor X and Magneto repeating the lines from X1 bringing things full circle.

The other X-men movies have had their versions of those theatre merch. You can google them.

Why are people making up stories to hype up this movie? There's those new positive tweets from CinemaCon for that.

Way too late for action figures and toys but I'm ready for X-men stuff to start showing up at Disney Stores, and just X-men stuff, in general, to start showing up in stores.
Not really in North America, though.
At least not much that I can remember. The last film I really remember having anything like 7-11 cups was Origins:Wolverine.
(Deadpool too but I’m not counting that)
I saw photos of stuff from DOFP but never physically saw anything in theaters here.

And there seemed to have been no problem with merch overseas with the X-Men films. I remember that a lot of fast food chains overseas had x-men stuff

Yes in North America. Maybe not in your city. They still were still made, they were still advertised for North American audiences, they were still handed out, they were still sold. You not getting them in your city is beside the point.

And how does that indicate the availability of these Dark Phoenix toppers? You not getting those same merch from before doesn't guarantee you'll get these new ones. With how badly Fox bungled the promo for this movie and then how badly the merger threw a monkey wrench into the whole thing, if anything, you and I will have even less likely chance of seeing these Dark Phoenix toppers at our theatres. Yes even in North America.

Idk about that.

It's weird with all the talk of this being a "culmination". I feel like that can be said for the past 3 films in this universe. DOFP, Logan, and Apocalypse all felt like they could've been the last film in the series.

They certainly could have. But Fox choose to make one film too many (this one) and now Disney has to get as much money as they can from it before rebooting X-Men for the MCU so I assume we are going to get an Infinity War/Endgame style promotion for it, selling it as the end of an era.

John Campeas current live YouTube video discussing the cinema con panel.

He says what half of what they showed had been seen in the trailers, but the half is new and it blows the previous trailers/looks out of the water. He thinks they should have lead with what they had shown.

He still cautious because of all the behind the scenes issues he's heard, but he says just looking at what was presented its looks very good.

Putting this in spoilers in case people don’t want to know. It isn’t anything major, just describes the trailer and a key thing I found interesting:

I read a discription saying that Jean’s Phoenix power/telekinesis is highlighted in an orange glow?!?! Whaaat :wow: it’s translated from Portuguese, so could be wrong... but sounds like they have finally put effects around her powers.

ages ago there were "cinema figurines" (low quality) but jeans was in a telekinetic pose with one hand to her head and the another outstretched.
The outstretched on was translucent and orange. i guessed perhaps it was her hand on fire/light.
my guess since she is fully bonded with the Pheonix force now, they are using the glow to highlight her power increase.
I'm curious how it looks. Will it be played like Wandas telekinesis in the MCU or more like Jeans pink telekinesis in the comics (we her the object she sis moving glows)

Considering I live in a major city says otherwise.
Point being, yes there was SOME mercy made for the X-men films, but it wasn’t nearly as much as other superhero film properties.
I’m also talking about merchandise as a whole, not just stuff that pops up in theaters. It’s no secret that the series got shafted in the merchandise department because of all the rights issues.
I’ll be shocked f we see those toppers hit theaters. I hope they do but I’m not holding my breath. Guess I’ll just have to wait to find them on eBay.

That's revisionist history. X-men 1 and X2 (X3 too probably, I don't remember) were still very much backed by Marvel. These films along with the original Raimi films were still championed by the House of Ideas back in the day. They would even advertise these movies in their comics, back then. Insane right? They even got multiple waves of action figures and Toybiz (which owned Marvel then) even got the stars to bring their action figures to their talk show appearances on Conan, Jay, Dave, Craig, Regis & Kathy Lee to help promote their merch. JLaw's Mystique has a higher chance of surviving this movie than us getting Dark Phoenix movie action figures. With 2 months left until the movie comes out, the best we can hope for are shirts and printed material.

Now you see half a dozen sippy cups and popcorn tubs and "OMG, embarrassment of riches?" I know it's been frustrating to be an X-men fanboy, and not getting any merch. It's also been frustrating seeing the team get pushed aside in favour of Inhumans and the like in the comics. But it didn't used to be like this.

^^^ I love her!

Fast forward to 4:45 if you just want to see Rebecca talk about her action figure but I really recommend watching the whole thing. This is an actress that actually loves being in these movies, which is more than I can say for the others in this franchise.

Disney isn't gonna release merchandise for a film that is not part of the mcu or a film they didn't even make for the first place. In fact, they are only releasing the film, because it was already under Fox's schedule.

He blocked me too.
I am very anxious to see how some bloggers who spent months and months attacking #DP in the hope of being canceled will behave now
they will probably stay "calm and kind" with the film so as not to criticize the company they love so much.
it will be funny to see some change .. ..:funny:

I always had and I have this doubt.
I do not know how the rotten tomatoes website works, but do these totally partial bloggers give a "note" to movies on that site?
if the answer is yes, it is a very bad thing that totally partial people have that possibility

Marvel had X-Men movie merchandise on store shelves up through XMO:W. Santa put a set of Wolverine Extending Battle Claws with Electronic Sounds under the family Christmas tree in 2009.

Subsequent versions of Wolvie's claws had the blue and yellow color scheme and replaced Jackman's image with the comic version. That change may have helped the Mouse avoid paying Fox their share of movie tie in merchandise.

First Class had mini mates figures movie merchandise, which I believe was the last of the Fox movie tie ins. By that time Disney was selling a crapload of Avengers stuff so the already trickling spigot of X-Men movie merch was cut off. This will hopefully change very soon.

New DARK PHOENIX trailer is markedly better than previous trailers imho

When did I say it was an embarrassment of riches?:funny:

X1/X2 had great merchandise, I wish that abundance continued for the rest of the series, but oh well. (I have a lot of the first films merchandise in my collection and have been trying to get all the figures over the past couple years)

I wasn’t talking about the first two films, apologies as I should have been more clear. Those were really the only ones that had proper merchandise that was more than a handful of items. X3 had a couple figures in the marvel legends series, but I don’t remember much else.(Anyone remember that awful Phoenix figure? Lol)

A lot of the Origins stuff was just repackaged comic figures from what I can remember.

I just would have liked to have seen figures for DOFP, a proper line for X3, Apocalypse etc :)
(I do have those little DOFP mini bobble heads I found on eBay. I think they were originally mystery figures released in Mexico from what I can remember)

I’m glad there are so many of these third party companies that are making X-men 1/6 scale figures. Hot toys only ever made Wolverine, so it’s nice to see other characters getting some love, even if not officially licenced.

Looking forward to seeing if they do some printed material for this film.
