Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

This was asked by Grace Randolph (who was actually quite positive at times) but it's bugging me too: Why does Nightcrawler wear a space helmet duct-taped to his X-Men costume and yet Jean doesn't have a helmet?

Well Jean is telekinetic and could create an air pocket around her that acts the same way a helmet does. Only difference is that you can’t see air.

So, I’m confused; people think example A is worse than example B? Really?

I don’t know if I’m alone but I hated the process and coloring they used for her in both DoFP and Apocalypse. She seemed unnaturally shinny for some reason, can’t quiet put my finger on it. Also her hair took this weird orange turn.

Because she only looks good in that one X-jet Dark Phoenix pic. I personally think they look equally as bad.

That's like saying Hoult's blue Beast looked good in First Class based on that one footage from the trailer of him growling. Perhaps both blue Beast and blue Mystique should only be in scenes inside the X-jet. At the very least the lighting covers up the subpar make-up jobs.

The shade of blue looks better in DP (better on the actress), and it's better for it to be matte rather than glossy. The Apocalypse blue paint was too shiny.

But Mystique in DP has terrible hair - the bright red colour, the hairline, the texture.

I think this is fair. My biggest issue with her hair is the monochromatic color, though it is truer to the comics. I wouldn’t mind a little more dimension and depth.

Well, yes, but a) do they explain that?; b) she could create the same TK life support bubble for Kurt so why does he need the helmet? Some sort of joke he makes?

Having two different costumes for their regular X-men costumes (blue with yellow X's) and for their space mission costumes should've been considered. Unless they went from their space mission directly to Jean's Red Hook neighbourhood, there's absolutely no excuse why they're wearing the same get-up there.

But Kinberg probably thinks this is a prestige, high-brow movie that is so above these merchandizing and action figure opportunities.

The Dark Phoenix wig looks like your bargain bin Halloween red wig.

He's probably just enjoying the ride. He's only one of the few original posters on SHH from the X2 days that still supports this franchise. Makes me wonder what the other ppl (TNC, Pejo, etc) think of the movies. It can't be fun seeing how far down the crapper this set of films has gotten. I didn't visit the F4 subsection of the boards but I'm sure he was one of the ardent defenders of those movies too.

You know if any X-Men movie is going to make me crawl out of the cave to comment, it would have to be this one. I was floating so high with anticipation after X2 and The Last Stand was the last straw lol

I watched all the garbage after that of course, but it wasn’t until DOFP that I actually felt some hope again. Apocalypse looked so promising, but it didn’t live up. I mean, yes, I got to see a true Phoenix in that movie, but that can’t save it.

Now, does this movie look like it will live up to my expectations or desires for what Dark Phoenix should be? Jesus Christ, no! But will it really be the Last Stand all over again? I hope not.

I’m always okay with liberties being taken as long as the spirit is honored. TLS honored nothing. This one at least appears to be taking some cues from the comic. Jean making the choice to sacrifice herself and being the one to pull the trigger is a key element that was missing the last time, so I’m hopeful it’s there this time.

Idk...it’s all a moot point now, I guess. But you know all of us old timers are still going to go watch it lol

If they took the time to explain that it would kind of go against the whole “race against the clock” situation to save the astronauts. Also, as we know from both public footage descriptions, she makes it a point of needing to be inside to hold the shuttle together. Lack of creating one around Kurt can be deduced as the same, or just the simple fact that he was wearing the makeshift helmet before he goes back with Jean. It’s already been revealed so it’s nothing new really.

I second that. Totally a missed opportunity. It was one of the few things TLS got right by showing a glimpse of different uniforms, including a peek a the generations of uniforms through Beast’s old getup.

Don't forget this movie is supposed to revolutionize superhero movies forever.

He's such a visionary. :o

++Actors come to Fox for Oscar-winning roles. Don't forget.
Because you need to see the film to understand why stuff happened in the trailer. basic logic really.
LOL You're just talking non-sense.

You're a sight for sore eyes! How serendipitous that I mentioned your name. Were you always just lurking? I've lost my old account too.

Third trailer was more of the same. Nothing WOW about it. Getting worried about the fighting in the end/train wreckage. I really don't want to see another stand there/absorb all the punishment/do nothing fight like Apocalypse. We have a cosmic force and aliens and this is where we wind up? Train tracks in the middle of nowhere? Don't know if it was creative decision or financial or what, but they could have been ending this thing with a battle royal on the freekin moon.

I didn't see anything that looked like a stand there and absorb all punishment fight at all.

Heck Nightcrawler is there stabbing *****es.

I mean Erik was standing but that’s kind of how he does his thing. They’ve actually barely showed any of the actually fighting. I like how much of the actual action they’re saving on giving away by making their trailers story driven.

The feeling of more of the same comes from the fact that the alternate 2nd trailer leaked so they had to call it the international trailer and then revamp it for the “final” trailer to make it not so completely alternate.

Imaging if the final trailer had came out an the International “2nd trailer” was released as only the international version of this one? The reception would have been entirely different.

So what could she do as Dark Phoenix now that she couldn’t do with just her fire-coloured Jean Grey firebird from 1983 that Xavier got her to "release?" I mean she straight-up eviscerated Apocalypse last time.

Ungodlike/regular mutant Jean Grey defeated Apocalypse. Dude must be some schmuck. His "all is revealed" last time...what does that even mean now?

1) I haven't seen Dark Phoenix nor have you, so we'll have to wait and find out. Breathing and flying in space though is a nifty add-on by the looks of it.

2) Are we sure she had complete control over that fire power... she fired it once in a moment of fury, and we haven't seen her do it again. In that sense maybe it's still only comparable to her power in TLS, which did not provide much in the way of flying or space travel. "Phoenix" might give her more control over that raw power, which ironically in turn makes it more unstable or corrupting.

I dunno, maybe you're right, but the movie could very easily explain this.

To continue on with that idea, I wouldn't be surprised if Dazzler in this movie was identified because someone says:

"Wow she really DAZZLED on stage!"

I don't remember if it was @psylockolussus or @EnDz0n3 that came up with that.

I definitely don't like that "Phoenix" is a nickname students used.

Compare that to the comics when Jean rises from the water after dying and declares "I am Phoenix"

The movie doesn't have to do that exact same thing but I'm missing the gravitas and grandeur of the comics.

One thing I was hoping for is a new poster. Hopefully we can still get one. I love the teaser, not a huge fan of the one out there right now.

Dark Phoenix--one of the most powerful beings in this universe--a god. Her power? Breathing and flying in space. Amazing.

Easily explain and if it's actually explained are two completely different things.

Still waiting for the in-movie explanation of how Patrick Stewart is alive or how Wolverine has his adamantium back or how Kitty has time-travel powers or how Sentinels can replicate powers, etc, etc, etc.

I was worried too.

Especially with Jean because she doesn't technically need to move given her telekinesis. However if the spoilers are correct, Jean definitively gets in on the action.

All of them sound like they are working together and using their powers to aid each other in the train sequence.
