Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Wouldn’t it be nuts if this movie does worse than Shazam at least domestically? Internationally this will beat it for sure but domestically not so sure about that especially given the reviews and the crowed summer.
this is already expected to do that. lol
now it will be intresting to see international numbers.

The X-Men are off to have a good rest now, the franchise will be back rejuvenated by the middle or end of the next decade. I look forward to it.

I always find comments like that odd. Why did he think he'd be in the minority if he legit thought it was good?

My girlfriend wanted to see this movie, then I showed her the reception. :O The prequel movies started great with First Class, legitimately one of the best CBM movies. FoXMen should have ended with Logan.

That's the problem. They did.
Not if you listen to some of the people here. They legit think Kinberg got screwed over again by the studio. Again.

If we're talking about the problem, that's the problem. It's everyone else's fault. Poor Kinberg, it's like he never catches a break.

Womp womp.

That's fine. But I think it is telling that during this run of disaster, we got Logan and Deadpool. And we all know the war that it took to get Deadpool made and the way it is.

Sad for the franchise and actors.
BUT I will be happy if this finally serves as a wakeup call to everyone in hollywood about what an incompetent tool simon kinberg really is.

I will say if there were any problems during production the actors did a good job of hiding it. None of it made mainstream press beyond rumours. You can tell the cast genuinely like each other and get along and probably care more about the source material than the executives ever did.

When you think about, Kinberg was an achiever academically. Lol.

Simon got in his own way and tried to check every box that didn’t need to be check if he couldn’t do it good. He had a great thing in isolating what bits everyone actually liked about this movie and making that the focus but he seemed to have had the urge to please everyone and it failed.

What the Vuk?

That’s all I can come up with as I try and figure out how this happened from what I saw.

Simon needs have seen the lesson in this, pick what you have that’s great and blow that up. His personal investment got in the way of his professional investment.

This just proves once again marvel is the only one who understands their own characters and source material. These other copycat studios should just give their Marvel rights back. They got their moneys worth leaching of Marvels property who only gave it up because they were desperate. Spider-Man is probably next in line to get ruined when Sony takes the IP back.

I don't think we should be making any more excuses for him. He has shown time and again that he is a hack. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for Dark Phoenix but he screwed the pooch.

According to avclub.com review:
It’s possible, of course, that there was a better Dark Phoenix once; the finished film, finally opening after delays probably associated with the Fox merger, bears the clear mark of post-production rejiggering.

Actually, the ending of Dark Phoenix was reportedly so close to Captain Marvel’s that they completely reconfigured and reshot it. That may have been a blessing in disguise: Though familiar, the new climax features some of the cleanest, most inventive action the series has offered; after years of writing these things, Kinberg proves himself a more than suitable replacement for Singer, one-upping the disgraced director in the spectacle department. What he can’t do is fend off the sense of fatigue that’s fallen over not just the X-Men but also the actors playing them. There’s just little here that the X-Men series hasn’t shown audiences before. On top of that, it finds no real replacement for the shopworn franchise pleasures it doesn’t provide.

We'll he's definitely responsible for the outcome. He decided all the changes that went into the final cut. I'll find out for myself when I see the film on what I liked and didn't like.

I hope Hollywood stops hiring Simon Kinberg now. He has been given enough chances to prove what he is capable of and he has failed every single time. He should have never been given the reigns to direct this movie.
Yesterday Variety reported that Kinberg Cast Diane Kruger in his new spy thriller, 355.

Jessica Chastain is the star of the film, she is also joined by Sebastian Stan Penelope Cruz,Edgar Ramirez Lupita Ny'ongo and Bingbing Fan.

So whatever happens with DP, Kinberg has got one more turn at the director's chair coming up.

He's a hack for sure, but I do believe that the merger kneecapped him and this isn't the movie he wanted to make. There were lots of hints at it being a two-parter. Also, early on he said he saw this as a new start for the franchise. My theory about the ending change has always been that the original was going to be open-ended.

So I will say something nice about him... he's been a professional throughout and hasn't let slip about any outside forces ultimately affecting his movie.

Oh I could do nothing but blame him. He’s his worst enemy and this could have been a staple entry if he had remained in his seat with someone else taking the reigns steering his writing in the right direction.

That said, I don’t think it’s the worst, but it’s certainly not in as high of a regard as I once held it. It’s tied with the Wolverine for me, and only above TLS, Apocalypse and XOW in my ranking.

So Kinberg did what Kinberg ALWAYS DOES. And in a year from now he’ll blame everyone but himself like he always does.
Maybe he'll work on Red Sonja and get paid $20Mil for it.

He's perfected the art of lying.

The merger and the two parter thing have nothing to do with each other whatsoever. I don’t think once Disney came on board they held him back in any way and I actually think he could have benefited greatly if they had smacked his hand a little here and there with his decisions in the editing room.

Also, so much money wasted in production, so so much. So many alternate scenes, alternate shots and the entire third act that would have essentially gotten the same reception but with less character spectacle but more of a grand flare.

Ultimately, this film could have been more financially successful if it stayed its originally shot course for November or February.
