Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

So basically Chastain is a D'Bari, a race of aliens with a grudge against the Phoenix entity. It does make it interesting to see what her endgame is.

I watched Endgame four times.
I have been lurking here on this board. Thinking when it will be the best time to join and this is it.

Let me just say this movie was bad but am glad its over.

I already said Days of Future Past was already the best ending to the series. Logan a perfect epilogue to end all ends, leaving a mark to remind folks why X-Men 2000 was a game changing movie for comic movies.

Even if I always knew Dark Phoenix was always going to be bad it is still shocking to see how bad.

Kinberg has finally been exposed for the fraud he is. He has gone for so long taking credit for Deadpool, DOFP, First Class and Logan. movies he only has his name attached to and none of the hard work that is credited to Mathew Vaughn, James Mangold, Bryan Singer,Tim Miller.

He should never have been allowed to make this movie. Reading the reviews the obvious is there. this is a first time director who has a lot to learn.
Welcome to the forum.

I'm planning to rewatch Fant4stic and Elektra in preparation for Saturday night!

There was no doubt in my mind that Dark PhoeniX is going to be worse than X3. X3 wasn't directed and solely written by Kinberg.

Also, i wonder how Kinberg and the cast are gonna react to this. Chastain at the red carpet, was saying that X3 didn't really live up to the Dark Phoenix story like as if this film is gonna be a superior film.

If nothing else, I’m still 100% sure it’s better than X3 at least. I have no worries about that personally. X3 is a disgrace and one of my most hated things on this planet.

I’m still going to see it, but damn if the reception so far hasn’t been really disappointing. This is what I get for not being cynical and pessimistic for once!

Same :(

I’m disappointed for anyone that kept hope for this to succeed. Disappointed the fandom has to go through another round of this. Optimism can only get you so far, before you have to admit something’s not working. Calling a spade a spade, and acknowledge it isn’t going to be the surprise hit I hoped for. I’ll see it, I’ll watch it, form my own opinions, albeit with a lower expectations.

The bright side in a couple weeks im sure some juicy behind the scenes drama is gonna start leaking about the what went on between Kindberg and the studio because you just know theres probably some Fant4stic level dramatics occurred.

That would be interesting and how it will affect the New Mutants' 2020 release.

the Ultimate Marvel universe, the Shi'ar are not an alien race, but a religious group whose beliefs are said to have descended from alien knowledge. They worship the Phoenix, believing it to be a god of not only destruction, but renewal. Their beliefs state that all of the Earth was originally a prison created by ancient alien civilizations to hold the Phoenix, but its presence at the core led to the creation of life on Earth, and the Phoenix's direct influence resulted in all major steps of evolution for man, and specifically, led to the creation of mutants....Ultimate Lilandra is not an alien, but the Majestrix of the Church of Shi'ar Enlightenment, and contacts Professor Xavier with the offer of funding his school's immense budget, in exchange for the chance to see if Jean Grey is the human host for The Phoenix.

I copied this from WIKI but this SHOULD HAVE BEEN the plot for the movie with a few tweaks. If they wanted a grounded take then Jessica should be Lilandra who befriends (or takes a romantic interest in) Xavier only to get to close to Jean. We didn’t need another Jean Grey origin unless they would’ve explained that Jean had connected with force as a child when Annie died and recently Jean has been having premonitions of Phoenix/Fire in her sleep. If any characters had to die then it should have been during the final battle with the Imperial Guard. How cool would it had been to see the X-Men fighting them with help from Magneto but ultimately getting defeated until Jean rises and takes them all out.

Like Simon had the recipe for a good movie however I am going to see it because I will always love the X-Men

Couldn't agree more.

Hope so. He always seems to come out of messes unscathed.

I have not seen Fant4stic and Elektra. Never planned to see it for the reason I was never a huge fantastic 4 or Elektra fan. I think I will re watch Logan just to cleanse myself from dark phoenix as a finale and because I liked the Ford v. Ferrari trailer too.

That is a director/writer (James Mangold) who knows what he is doing. when I saw the trailer for Ford v. Ferrari and the tag line of ....from the director of Logan and Walk the Line. Anyone is once again reminded of the fraud that Kinberg always was in the X-Men series.

Mathew Vaughn should have stayed in charge since he understood the series better. Vaughn said he would have done a jean/phoenix story with three films. He also said Days of Future Past would have been the last movie for a complete trilogy. Meaning X-Men Apocalypse or a one shot phoenix movie could never have happened.

That's the most baffling thing about him tbh. And now he'll get picked up by Lucasfilm. As far as he's concerned, life's good

The worst part about all of this isnt even that the FoXmen are going out on a sour note. The worst part about this is the Dark Phoenix story is officially dead and you can bet your tucchus that this storyline aint ever gonna be touched again because it is now officially tainted goods.

Marvel could still attempt it. Do it like the comic did it (take your time building to it, get the audience invested first, and don't rush it).

I mean just gonna accept DOFP as the official end of the series I loved with Logan being a great “What if” or loose epilogue as someone else here mentioned beforehand

Much easier to accept that way

I don't think it will have a bad rep due to the unique circumstances

1. the movie was pushed back twice
2. Disney bought Fox
3. Logan is already the ending to most people since Jackman was the franchise
4. X-Men is now in the MCU waiting for a debut

I don't think the bad rep is going to be as bad as what suicide squad or amazing spiderman 2 or even batman and robin did that you have to do a 180 but still Kinberg should never work again until he goes to a film school and learns how to write and direct.
I meant the whole Fox X-Men series. It already seems to have a bad rep because it isn’t as “accurate” as other comic films.
And granted, it isn’t, but I don’t think it makes the series bad. It helped set the tone for future comic films.

Speaking of DP specifically, I don’t think most people will take those things into account. The film is either good or bad. The general audience won’t make excuses to try and justify it.

They really should have ended on a high note with DOFP and Logan. Both those films felt like true endings.

*Sigh*
Sorry guys, my voodoo failed me.
Now humanity (muties and flatlines alike) have to suffer through this crapfest...
I hope the damage i know it will cause doesn't last too long.
:(

This movie won't have lasting damage on the brand. It will come, it will go, it will be forgotten. The only lasting impact it may have is Marvel Studios may just not use the Dark Phoenix storyline when they bring in the X-Men. Which honestly, is not the worst thing in the world to me. Can we have Jean just be a hero for a while? Must we always shoehorn her into being the Dark Phoenix so quickly? What happened to Jean Grey? Or Phoenix Jean Grey with the green outfit? Why don't we ever get that version? I can live a lifetime without the Dark Phoenix at this point.

I was looking online to see the showtimes for a couple theatres downtown Chicago and the IMAX at Navy Pier actually has quite a few seats already filled as does another larger theatre down the street. So people are probably still gonna see it, though how many is yet to be seen.
