Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Last rant...

I refuse to give Kinberg any credit for DOFP.
There's no way he was the brains behind that one.

That's all folks :)

I’ll give him credit for Rogue’s unexplained time-travel powers, the plot-device serum that let’s Xavier walk at a convenient cost, and ditching the most useful X-men after the best scene in the movie for no real reason.

I like DOFP but that writing has Kinbergs name all over it.

Agreed. I love DOFP. But I guess you really can point out NOW what scenes Kinberg wrote.

90% I believe was Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldmans story. Speaking of - she has a solid track record.

10% taken away from DOFP's RT score belongs to Kinberg :D

I remember this. Then after the movie came out I remember some sort of excuse about how "This was always going to happen with Cyclops. You knew it would!"

Oh, I remember that. I think Zak Penn was the guy saying stuff like that. I will give him a tiny bit of kudos for straight up admitting that the franchise was built to revolve around Wolverine from the beginning.

EDIT: Actually, he doesn't even deserve that tiny bit of kudos, and I don't know why I thought that he did.

I hope those reports weren't true awhile back that when Marvel Studios eventually takes on some Fox properties like X-men Kinberg and Lauren Schuler Donner will still be involved in some capacity. I hope Kevin Feige puts Kinberg in his place. Kinberg as well as Singer just lack true imagination and creativity. I think with Kevin taking control, this franchise will improve. Kinberg in past interviews is way too hung up on Magneto. He can't let go and do something original.

I'm not sure about anyone else but villains like Magneto, Apocalypse, Shaw and Mr. Sinister get mentioned all the time but who I want to see is ****ing Cameron Hodge. That guy is such a scumbag piece of ****. Introduce him in a first or second movie as the good guy he appeared to be in the comics before he revealed his true colors and totally messed over Warren Worthington III. Just build him up and do Genosha right. Even if they don't want to go the full crazy giant mechanical spider-like body his actions and agenda alone are crazy enough.

I agree. Kitty’s random time-travel powers, the magic serum that allows Xavier to walk but takes away his telepathy (already sounds ridiculous on paper), and using Rogue as a plot device just so Erik and Charles could have one last teamup, have Kinberg written all over them.

Even the most glowing reviews of the movie had to point these out.

I read some posts from people saying Kinberg directed most of Apocalypse, because for some odd reason Singer kept disappearing for long periods. It seems that's the reason the cast wanted Kinberg to direct Dark Phoenix ( they hated Singer ).

They might have an EP credit on the movie but their "contributions" will be a couple hours of friendly-catching up with their old co-worker Fiege who will then walk them out once it's time to start working.

I do see this having some diehard fans. People that think they (or actually do) "get it". I mean, there's a discrepancy here between reviews of this, Apocalypse and Origins. Phoenix isn't the WORST X-Men film, even though the Tomato aggregation will reflect that. Origins is decidedly, factually the worst, and always technically will be, for various reasons, but it's innocence and goofiness (and later redemption with The Wolverine and Logan) will put it friendlier waters with most, yeah? People seemed to dislike Apocalypse for different reasons than Phoenix. Hmmm.

It's interesting to see boil over. I wouldn't be saying this if I didn't see a lot of support for Phoenix. Beyond this board, I'm seeing it on Youtube, Facebook and twitter(real people). Maybe people are just happy this is the last one, so they are critically softer? A "Just let the dying horse die. Lets not beat" yeah? It's over. It's a good mentality to have, so the people that genuinely like this film, can enjoy it in peace, without being ridiculed.

Just observations, don't attack me please, thanks lol. I haven't seen the film yet but I'm very excited to see how I feel about it. If I dislike it, I'm going to be honest about it.

Having just got back I can say I actually quite enjoyed it! It does have flaws but not without its highlights. And anyone saying this is worse than The Last Stand needs to re-evaluate.

Word of warning to everyone, don’t go in thinking it’s going to be bad. I found myself looking for problems when I was watching it, partly because of the reviews and the discussion on here. Actually for the most part it was enjoyable and did sort of round off the whole franchise for me.

Biggest flaw was the script dialogue but I actually think Kinberg did well with the pacing overall. I think he may be a better director than writer for the most part.

Actors all delivered for me (could have had a few more scenes of levity with them together) and there is the odd dodgy line here or there. I didn’t really buy into the scenes with young jean because she did feel a bit like a straight out of school actor.

Both me and my brother ( he is as joe bloggs public as you can get) agreed it felt like endgame without the infinity war and a lot would have been solved if they split the film in half and fleshed it out more. It had all the signs of a great movie but you find yourself buying into the relationships at the same time the large scale drama is happening. Also think it would have helped to have the aliens spread over two films to give a bit more time with the corruption of Jean.

LOVED Zimmers score and Kinberg seemed to get the balance of super power use within storytelling more in line with what Singer did in x1 and 2.

Honestly I would probably give it a solid 3 Stars or 6.5/7 out of 10. Better than Apocalypse too!

Origins is factually nothing. One's opinion on a film is their opinion, it's all subjective. Personally I'd watch Origins again long before Apocalypse or Last Stand. At least it makes me laugh.

Awwww, my heart :hrt: They both deserved better. They both did the best they could within a muddled mess of a movie

And Famke was awesome in 'When They See Us'. It was nice to see her
I love Famke PhoeniX Janssen.

Seeing her in the red carpet (and Shawn) made me nostalgic. I was 14 when I saw X2 and Dr. Jean's death broke my heart for the first time inside the cinema and Shawn was my crush. Though at least they dodged a bullet from appearing in a Kinberg directed film.

I agree to an extent, it is factually nothing, which makes it rather innocent. It is technically the worst as far as script, direction, acting, effects, music, the whole shebang. And I agree about opinion, of course, but there has to be a certain level of objectivity in film/entertainment, as we wouldn't have standards to judge by, that's just the way it is. Being that it's so bad it's good for a laugh, is reserved for the worst of the worst films, and that's fine! I'm glad you find it so laughably bad, I actually do too, and would rather watch it than Last Stand any day. Because it's the least offensive overall to it's source. Last Stand is still more competently made overall, same with Apocalypse. Though I hate Last Stand more than almost any movie, that doesn't stop me from acknowledging certain aspects it does competently. There's a clear different between "best" and "favorite" in my view.

The fact that you went in looking for problems, and still came out enjoying it somewhat, is telling to me. It supports my thinking overall. I'm glad you ended up digging it a little!

Origins has a charm and some heart to it. Im struggling to say the same about Dark Phoenix. There isn't 1 character in there that gives the movie some warmth - possibly Quicksilver.

The worst movies are those that inspire nothing. It is better to be trashy fun then to be a drab and boring. A movie that I can't get through is much worse then a movie I can watch.

There is no "objective" facts about art. It's all opinion. You might think something is better directed or written, but that is your opinion. Considering the consensus so far on Dark Phoenix, others would disagree.
