Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

“Bechdel test.”

I’m old enough to remember how Chastain and Kinberg told us this is a movie about X-women. Besides Jean, who else is an X-woman that this movie puts a spotlight on? I guess Mystique. Certainly not Storm. Who else?? Chastain’s alien character? Nope you’re not an X-woman.

I’ve seen it twice now, at the premiere and again tonight in NY. I don’t hold it in as high of a regard as I did, which I called it good not great. It had potential to beat out First Class but somehow the changes actually made it worse. I was upset and am still absolutely confused in HOW this could happen. I still don’t think it’s as bad as RT is showing it is, but that’s just me.

My final, personal, ranking is as follows:
X2
Logan
DoFP
First Class
Deadpool
X1
Deadpool 2
Dark Phoenix
The Wolverine (I simply just enjoy DP more)
X3
Origins
Apocalypse

Has 40 seconds of decent dialogue with Scott but nothing after that. Cant even remember her talking to Jean directly in the whole movie
Does she even talk to Mystique? I don’t remember. I know in the space scene Raven was barking orders to her (actually just one). I don’t remember her talking to Beast, Kurt, Pietro, Jean, Magneto, Chastain.

Storm only talk 10 seconds with Scott.
My top X-men :

X2
Dofp Rogue cut
X Men
The Wolverine
X3
FC
Logan
Dark Phoenix
Apocalypse
Deadpool
Deadpool 2
Orígenes

For anyone who cares Dark Phoenix has a "B"-
on Cinemascore... that's even worse than the franchise's previously worst reviewed film X-Men Origins: Wolverine which at least had a 'B+' Cinemascore. And that's a decline from Apocalypse's "A-" Cinemascore.

This movie is not going to have a good box office run at all I suspect. I expect very weak holdovers for this one, and even at my theater I saw this at very few audiences I felt were truly connecting with the film. I heard a few mild claps, little applause but almost no laughs. I saw the film with a female friend of mine that disliked the film and who's just a regular moviegoer who likes superhero movies, and she called the movie, "joyless".
Wow a B-. What a crowd pleasing movie! the movie is breaking all records possible for the series. Worst rt rating, worst box office numbers, now worst Cinemascore rating.

"my emotions make me strong". lmao Kinberg.

My personal listing of FoX-Men Films

DoFP (Rogue Cut)
X2
Logan
Deadpool
X1
The Wolverine (Unrated Cut)
Deadpool 2
First Class
X3
Apocalypse
Dark Phoenix
Origins

Still a little too soon for a definitive ranking, but I'll try my hand at it.
1. DOFP
2. X2
3. Logan
4. First Class
5. Dark Phoenix
6. Apocalypse
7. X-Men
8. The Wolverine
GAP
9. The Last Stand
BIG GAP
10. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

With the exception of number 10 I find all the X-Men films entertaining on some level. However, those first 3 are the cream of the crop. Hopefully we'll see another X-Men film, or hell another comic book movie on the level of either of those films one day.

I'll throw my two cents too:

1- X2: I mean come on (although it should be the worst because the final seconds of that movie made us the biggest cinematic promise that was never fulfilled).

2 - X-Men: You think the frog line was bad? Well the rest of the dialogue is amazing, just a quick example of character interaction and exposition beautifully combined:
Xavier: “You don't like him, do you?”
Scott: "How can you tell?”
Xavier: “Well, I'm psychic, you know.”

3 - X-Men: Days of Future Past (Theatrical or Rogue Cut, pick one): The return of the X-Men in true form, an amazing score, the perfect ending, the true final X-Men movie.

4 - Deadpool: The movie that took all of the great undertones of the X-Men lore, made fun of it, and also took it more seriously than most of the others.

5 - Deadpool 2: Not as funny as the first one, and some weird turns in the second act.

6 -Logan: I had a really big problem with the last act, but mostly cause I tend to hate kids in these types of movies, and the overabundance of them in the last fight was just unforgivable for me. It's still an awesome movie.

7 - X-Men Apocalypse: What? that movie was terrible! Was it really? The opening Egypt sequence alone elevates this movie to incredible heights.

8 - X-Men: First Class: I had big expectations for this movie, and I know a lot of people loved it, I was sadly not one of them, just the codename picking scene to this day bothers me so much, and other stuff that I won't get into now, but I can say without a doubt in my mind that Magneto has never been cooler than in the first act of this movie.

9: X-Men: The Last stand: This is a bad movie, but you know what?, this is the last movie that had all the original cast, and guess what? they were amazing saying those stupid lines, and wearing those stupid costumes. John Powell did an amazingly moving score for this one, that Ratner managed to almost destroy in the final mix in the movie.

10 - The Wolverine: This movie is better than TLS, but still if I had to pick between watching this one or Last Stand on cable on an afternoon when I'm sick in bed, I'd rather watch the other one, also talk about a self imploding third act.

11 - TIE Dark Phoenix & X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Yay we did it! end of the list.

I have no idea why this series gets it's budget stifled so much.

If Dark Phoenix was a crowd pleasing movie, there actually would be crowds to see it.

I don't get that impression by it's boX office performance :D

Not yet, it doesn't have crowds because of the stigma surrounding it pre-release. But it seems like WoM may help the second weekend do better than it would have. Nothing to Venom levels, that's just an anomaly

It takes a minute for good word to spread, I'm personally doing my best, and I do think it will see better box office returns than it would have. I see more and more people say they will give it a shot during a discount day at their theater or next weekend. At least in my Facebook communities.

Is Sophie Turner that tall? Or are Emma Lahana and Olivia Holt that short? They didn't look so short in Cloak and Dagger.

We would never have gotten that sort of interaction or cross promotion before the Disney-Fox takeover.

So I went back to the local cinema, and they've shut one of the screens that was showing this and gave it to something else already (Rocketman) lol. So from 3 screens to 2, in less than a week.

They should now have Elton John telling someone to P*** off in the X-Men reboot. lol
