2012: A Monster Year? (box office predictions) - Part 5

• TDKR was in 2D.
• TDKR endured a National Tragedy.
• TDKR was a great film and end to Nolan's trilogy.
because a big tragedy happened it needed to make the same money like TDK to proove a point?TDKR is a good movie. i seen a lot good movies in my life that bombed. so?

the new Superman movie needs to be good and make money. JL needs to be good and needs to make money.

And with being only the second director with 2 1 billion movies, Nolan continues to get the chance to make whatever he wants which is always a good thing!

For people that follow box office its nice to see certain things achieved. Hitting $1 billion is one of those especially for a 2D movie at this time.

imax? are imax tickets cheap ? what about all the fake imax theaters who are so expensive?

Oh please. TDKR proved, that unlike TDK, it didn't need The Joker nor a perfect storm to reach a billion. Those silly 'excuses' are now officially buried. That's my point.

Compared to 3D?
who cares about 3D? we all know that because of 3D a lot movies made a lot money from 2009 until 2012. Burton's Alice? 2012 and i am still shocked

Interesting comparing 2011's top films to 2012's. Higher domestic BO, but lower foreign across the board.

Is 2012 the first year to have 2 films (much less 3) break 400 M domestic? Before you light your torches and storm the castle, remember, 2 of the films did it without 3D, and the one that did have 3-D did it by such a large margin that it's hard to hold 3-D against it.

I would say The Avengers benefitted with 75-85 million [domestically] from 3D.

batman fans happy that TDKR made 1 billion? why. will you get a sequel to TDKR?

I'll tell you straight why i'm happy. Aside from being a huge fan of batman and the film in general and seeing it connect with a lot of people.

The fact is Nolan stuck to his guns and said no to this fad of 3d that is still hanging around and has now proved that yes you can have a billion dollar hit in 2d.

You don't need all this post-conversion gimmicks to succeed. This is the 1st film in 2d to make a billion dollars since TDK itself that's 4 years. Since then look at all the alice and wonder lands and pirates 4's, Transformers 3's that have diluted what was once the great and rare achievement of hitting a billion.

Finally he's proved 3 times in a row now that great filmmaking not pandering to the michael bay crowd is super rewarding financially. That is why i'm happy. It's a good day for fans of mainstream films.

I'm happy to see a great movie being successful.

Box office is not everything, but I'm glad quality superhero movies are being rewarded for what they deserve.

If you're someone who liked the movie, why wouldn't you be happy it was successful?

How much did TDKR benefit from IMAX.

Hard to say at the moment, but I would say considerably lower (while IMAX being more expensive) due to the fact that there are so few IMAX theaters around [compared to 3D].

Well wasn't The Avengers in IMAX too?

Dude.
Why don't you just let fans be happy that a movie they have supported for so long is succesful.
Seriously this is bordering on trolling.

Yes we all know that the chance of getting another Batman mvie from Nolan is zero.
But movie has gottten favorable reviews and that in turn has led to a good BO performance.
So why shouldn't Batman fans be happy ?

Which wasn't obvious from the start ?
Anyone who has been following these movies from the start knows that Nolan would also deliver a 2-d movie. He has the freedom to do that and WB will give him that freedom.
Not to mention that your question was going into troll mode.

I believe as of last weekend TDKR was up to around $62.2 million from IMAX, which I think is only domestically.

Is that the inflated revenue from IMAX tickets or the total from IMAX?
