2012: A Monster Year? (box office predictions) - Part 5

Its a damn shame that Argo wasnt number 1. Such a truly great film and a rather important one. I know some people might not have went thinking it was war propaganda but affleck directed a very honest approach where it kinda bashed both sides for there mess ups and how ignorant they both were.

Just like his other films, it ends and we move on. Something about the plotting after the climax. Good effort.

So far its made exactly its budgets back but just when after this past summer I thought the GA was getting better sorting through crap then all the sudden taken 2 cleans house and this goes by the waist side.

Maybe the GA has gotten better.
Occam's razor has a way of figuring this stuff out.

Resident Evil was quite bad, this time. Only one million more than the first movie and it cost the double.

They better cut the budget if they intend to do a sixth movie.

The overseas market is why the Resident Evil movies are successful.

The latest film is no exception.

Boxoffice.com predicts it will be number one in its third weekend. :)

‘Skyfall’ In UK Smashes Opening Records

By NIKKI FINKE AND NANCY TARTAGLIONE | Saturday October 27, 2012 @ 7:52pm PDTTags: Box Office, James Bond, Skyfall
http://www-deadline-com.vimg.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Skyfall-Poster-6__121024162813.jpgEXCLUSIVE: There’s no doubt that strong film reviews and advance buzz are giving the 23rd James Bond movie a big thumbs-up. But this weekend is the first indication of how well the Sam Mendes-directed pic will do at the box office with the Eon Production Skyfall opening in the UK, France and other Euro territories for Sony Pictures and MGM. Sony won’t divulge official international grosses until Sunday morning. But sources tell Deadline now that Skyfall opened as Britain’s all-time biggest Friday opening and biggest opening weekend. It smashed previous records set by the two other Daniel Craig as 007 movies. Skyfall‘s UK total is expected to be £20M weekend ($32.2M) compared with the first installment Casino Royale‘s opening weekend of £13.37m ($21.53M) and Quantum Of Solace‘s £15.38m ($24.77M) which broke UK box office records for the biggest opening weekend when it was released in 2008. Skyfall‘s Friday opening day of £6.2M ($9.99M) also http://www-deadline-com.vimg.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/skyfall-bond-girls__121028024855.jpgshattered Quantum Of Solace‘s previous recordholder of £4.9M. Saturday was expected to be higher and Sunday’s about the same. (Numbers may be refined on Sunday…) Helping total grosses, Skyfall was expected to be shown almost 75 to 100 times in round-the-clock screenings over its opening weekend at some UK cinemas in London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Southhampton. Skyfall doesn’t open in the U.S. and Canada until November 9th (a day earlier, November 8th, on IMAX screens). But Hollywood expects it to top both Quantum Of Solace which went on to gross $586M (£367.4M) worldwide and 2006′s Casino Royale which grossed $594.2M (£372.5M) making it the highest grossing film in the Bond franchise (not adjusted for inflation or higher ticket prices).

RE6 is on the way.
I'm aware of the money it made, hence why I said it got only one million more than the first. Domestic, that is. And it cost the double, since the first was made with 33 million.

Looking at its worldwide numbers, it does seem that it was profitable, but how much of the foreign money comes back to the studio and how much was spent on advertising and marketing?

I think the true profit will eventually come, but with the DVD/Blu-Ray sales. What we can see is that they increased the budget, but got a lot less than the fourth movie.

Monday (10/29) Update: Sony has revised the strong international start for Skyfall upwards. The international start for Skyfall now stands at $80.6 million.

I'm thinking that it can open higher than Hotel Transylvania, and plus it has had a bigger marketing campaign than HT did.

SKYFALL HITS $100 MILLION OVERSEAS

October 31, 2012

Sony/MGM’s Skyfall may turn out to be the biggest 007 film ever, if early overseas results are any indication. Playing in only 25 countries, the film has already grossed more than $100 million in just five days, according to expectations based on the fact that the film earned $13.6 million on Monday to bring its four-day gross to $96.6 million. Although final figures for Tuesday are not available, it is presumed that the film earned at least $4 million on its fifth day, to put it above $100 million. On Monday, Skyfall earned $6.8 million in the U.K. alone, the biggest Monday haul ever in that country, surpassing the previous record of $5.2 million set on a Monday last year by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The film is due to open domestically on Nov. 9.

Wreck It will be number one most definitely. Flight number 2. Iron Fists may garner about number 4 or 5, because it's more of a genre cult thing, something you need to just go see late on a Saturday night.

they only get 15% of that foreign gross 55% of the domestic.i say it was not as good as afterlife that movie made back its budget domestically unlike retribution.also think chris and claire made afterlife enjoyable and were left out of retribution for rain and one among others who no one wanted to see again.

Friday (11/2) Update: Skyfall has grossed $59.9 million during its first seven days in the U.K. and Ireland. That impressive tally gives Skyfall the first-week record in the U.K./Ireland. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 previously held the record with $57.6 million in its first seven days.
