This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]455255[/split]
The San Francisco Giants have agreed with Buster Posey on a nine-year, $167 million contract in a landmark deal, according to ESPN and multiple other media outlets.
Posey's new deal is the longest ever for a catcher, and worth the second-most money after Joe Mauer's $184 million, eight-year deal with the Twins. It's also the most money ever guaranteed to a player with fewer than three years of service time.
The contract, which is also the longest in Giants history, covers 2013-2021, with a team option for 2022. There is also a full no-trade clause for the duration of the contract.
Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers have reached agreement on a new contract that could exceed $202 million, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney.
Verlander's deal, which would make him the highest-paid pitcher in the game, is for seven years and worth $180 million, sources said. A vesting option for an eighth year could push the deal to $202 million.
.313 BA and a Silver Slugger award in 2012 is not what I'd call terrible. He's been diminishing as anyone would with age, but it hasn't been an embarrassment or chasm.
At least Jeter doesn't have to be beaten down with "is this going to be your last year?" questions all season.
Then had a very good year, then got injured in the playoffs. He was declining the 2 years prior.
He never fully healed. It didn't hide the obvious limitations of that unhealed injury. That fact that he only played 17 games last year hid the fact that he was awful when he played.
What happened to the baseball discussion? This used to be a booming thread back in the day. Is it just lack of people posting?
They already know he has about 3-5 more years at his current level, so they'll try to win as much as possible until he reaches the back half of the contract and starts to decline.
The weird thing is why they would offer such a contract now when he has two more years to go.
Pretty good.Did anyone catch that E:60 story Perfect?
It's been possible for some time that this might be Jeter's last season, yet hearing the new made official today just really hits me. Almost as if I was denying it happening. It'll be a great farewell tour for him this season. I sure hope he goes out on a great season.
