Hi, new to the board, but thought I would stop by and share one of two animated gifs I made from "Decent".

Hope you like it.

Enjoy.

^^^ i have to say that was very brutal death for lionel
just imagine falling from very high story building to a concret stairs
talk about painfull death

:wow::wow:

so what's with that last blink? Did it mean Jor-El's essence left or something or was it just a regular blink?

^^^ that was lex blinking

the whole scene was very nicely shot

oh that was Lex blinking? I thought it was Lionel.

That was indeed Lex blinking.

We're watching his eyes as he watches his father fall from the window. He watches calmly, finally, without blinking - perhaps to make sure Lionel really dies this time. He blinks: no more dad. His father is out of sight, out of mind, and dead to him, both physically and metaphorically. That blink is the final snuffing - to all but the most optimistic minds - of Lex's humanity and capacity for redemption.

In contrast to his panic leading up to the crucial moments, Lionel dies calmly, resolutely, stoically, and with his eyes open: facing what's coming; standing by his decision to go quietly. He doesn't call for Clark to help him - that would give away Clark's secret. He preserves his soul at the end by dying to help the greater good.

Lionel may not be the MB any more, but he's quite M as he dies. Lex is now 100% B. It remains to be seen whether Lex can control himself enough to transition to the MB shoes that his father left behind.

It is certainly a shame - for Alexander - that young Alexander was sacrificed by MB Lionel and the rest of the Veritas crew to find/protect/control the Traveler, even before they had met Clark. If Veritas and Lionel hadn't done this, we might very well be without evil Lex today. The next few episodes should explain better why Alexander was brought along with Lionel. Using him as a cover for the factory purchase seems insufficient. Perhaps a message from Krypton will illuminate us.

This was an amazing episode. It had all the key elements that make up a good Superman story.

An evil plotting Lex. Jimmy and Lois together on a story. Jimmy and Lois in peril, with Supes running in at the nick of time to rescue them. Wonderful stuff.

The most shocking thing for me was that they opened the episode with the death of Lionel. Grabbed my attention right away.

Here's to hoping the rest of the seasons plays out like this episode.

Here is the second animated gif that I created for this episode.

Did anyone else think that Jor-El would take over, before Lionel hit the street? Maybe he did, maybe Lionel isn't really in his grave. Isn't Mr. Glover the only one besides Tom who is signed to do season 8?

That's a very good point. Maybe Jor-El did take over.

But I think I would prefer things to stay the same as they are now. Lex is evil, and this is the act that supposedly has pushed him over the edge. I wouldn't want Lionel to come back, only to be murdered again.

I'm not sure that Craig would have written his tribute to John if Lionel in any form was coming back....

Hi! Tai. Thanks for the gifs. They look great! :woot:

I'm hoping once we get passed "Sleeper" that the final 3 of the season will really kick a$$! (Sleeper has filler written all over it. And it will be Clark-light as well.)

You know that you can say "ass" on this forum, right?

I'm just sayin'...

:ninja:

hey you can! lol iddnt know that!

:D

Yeah, there are a few cuss words you can say, ass, bastard... but I think that's about it.

Oh, and my review should be posted later today. Craig's a bit stressed, has two book deadlines coming up and he's got relatives visiting...

Look at what he said about it:

Triplet's "Descent" Review...

...will be posted at some point on Friday. KryptonSite's webmaster Craig is in the middle of two book deadlines and has relatives visiting, so things are a little slower than usual... thanks for your patience and thanks to Triplet, of course, for the reviews!

As an apology to Triplet, we present her with... Tom Welling in glasses. Enjoy!

:D

Too funny.... And he posted the ADORABLE image from the trailer with Tom in glasses.

Review's up and I've already had comments!

I sorta rant about other (unnamed) reviewers, so be warned: ranting ahead.

ETA: Keep in mind it's probably one of my longest reviews.... It weighed in at over 4000 words and 7 pages, so FYI.

I probably could of watched the episode in the time it took me to read through your review.

Reminded me of Dreads Comic reviews.

Is that a complaint?

Should I have warned about the length?

*shrug*

Sorry, but I had a lot to say and craig has never limited the length of the reviews.

Believe me, sleeper is going to be a lot shorter.

*shudders*

I want to get that one out of my brain as soon as possible.

Very thoughtful review. I enjoyed reading it. I mostly agreed with you but I think we may disagree a bit on Lionel's underlying motives and redemption. But no matter, I think you did an excellent job of reviewing this episode. Lots of things stand out, but I especially liked your insight into the symbolism of the light in the last scene at Lionel's graveside.

That was my favorite scene. Without a word spoken so much was conveyed through the actor's and the rich symbolism of that scene. These moments in the show are what make it for me and what keep me hopeful.

BTW, I didn't know you could say ass over here. :yay:
