7.17 - Sleeper - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Was this episode seriously written by a professional writer?

I have ranted in the past numerous times about how the writers know nothing of the character of Clark Kent and end up assassinating him on a weekly basis but seriously... "Sleeper"? Where should I start?

- Jimmy a super-spy with darts shooting from his cufflinks?

- Clark so insensitive and ungrateful that he would knowingly put Chloe in danger to satisfy his obsession or would rather see the world burn rather than leave Lana's side?

- NSA sending a crazy chick instead of swooping in arresting everyone and confiscating every bit of hardware in Chloe's reach?

- Clark still oblivious to the greater picture?

Even the loft scene was horrible. I'm surprised Chloe didn't have to draw pictures for Clark to understand what is happening around him. Do they think they are dealing with an IQ challenged character? Wasn't there a better way to give the viewers this info without making Clark look like an idiot?

This episode was a waste of space. "Apocalypse" should have followed "Descent", now it will suffer in ratings because of the crap we got this week.

0 out of 5 for "Sleeper"!!!!!

five minute dance scene in the middle, why?

So we can all sit here and speculate on how embarrassed AM was, whether either of them knew that dance before the show (it's more like something you'd see in ballroom competitions or ice dancing than on a real dance floor), and how long it took them to get it down without cracking up in the middle.

On the positive side, I thought Jimmy looked quite dashing. AM's dress seemed like it could use an extra tuck at the top - was a bit loose - but it was pretty and she looked nice. We should get the two of them dressed up more - but not to do dances like that on TV. They did a good job, but it was awkward to watch.

Funny thing, that: the folks on the show generally make fun of Clark's regular dancing; Clark dances very well on redK; it would still be more the type of dance we'd expect to see redK Clark and Lana or Lois doing than Chloe and anyone.

That was a silly episode. I guess "Sleeper" fills the slot of non-sequiter filler ep before the finale (see Noir, Fade, and Ageless, all eps that deviated from the driving storyline that took place in their respective season's run up to the finales).

This is why I don't watch this show. So terrible....

I think it's a bit unfair to take this bad episode and project it as emblematic of the series overall. While I agree with you that this particular episode was terrible, it by no means represents the quality of the show overall. If you tuned in just last week, you might agree that Smallville is the greatest shows on TV. That extreme statement isn't true either, but it's just as fair to project the overall quality of "Descent" to the series as it is to say a horrible misstep like "Sleeper" represents the show.

What frustrates me, and I guess many viewers, is Smallville's ability to turn the volume up to 20 and never keep cranking week after week, it drops off then comes back....

If the seasons were 12 eps in length it would be amazing.

I read the spoilers for this episode so I wasn't expecting much but I just lost it when Chloe and Jimmy started dancing. Pulease! What were they thinking?!? Obviously NOT!

"Sleeper" is an apt title for last night's episode becasue It almost put me to sleep.

I don't understand the Smallville writers.WHy kill such a great momentum after last week's phenominal episode with this pointless one? (except for the Lex stuff)

:word:You know what I have defended this show for a long time but I have to say that I am really getting tired of Clark being a co-star in his own series!
I could really do without the Jimmy Bond jr routine. I am really getting tired of all this filler crap!:hehe:

Damn that was awful. BUT it introduced time travel into the smallville universe so legion, legion, legion!

BDA Clark was a his best in Last Night's episode . I really hope this is the last we see of him . I really hope "Apocalypse" is Clark turning point episode , just like "Descent" was Lex's turning point episode .

Agreed!!!

I think Clark's BDA-ness and emo-ness was over exaggerated by the people who saw the episode earlier in Canada. I can think of a few episodes where he acted more pathetic and stupid.

what a bunch of babies, do you know it's just a weekly TV show, my god lol

"The only important thing right now is Lana" and "I don't care about Lex" are without a doubt the most pathetic statements Clark has ever said! I can't imagine Clark's BDA being worse than that!

Well I think finding Brainiac and Kara should be at the top of his priorities especially given the new information. Brainiac wants to kill baby Kal-El thus Clark having never esixted. He needs to get to them ASAP. Lex on the other hand, still needs time to figure out that device he got from the bank. If you look at which one has priorites, I think finding Brainiac and defeating him is at the top.

Your not helping things by whining about the people who did not like the episode. People are allowed to have negative opinions

people are allowed but they also need to realize what a weekly TV show is, it's just a freaking weekly TV show:whatever:

You are no better then them by whining about them. At least they are on topic unlike us. Perhaps it is time to learn how to ignore the negative posts or go find a more up beat Smallville forum

there's no such thing as one. lol

even if you started your own, it will eventually warp into people arguing with each other. My suggestion, if you can't handle the negative comments, then I guess you don't have to come on here. Everyone has a right to their opinion whether it's positive or negative.

i seriously LMAO when clark said "I spent the night with Lana" and when chloe says "hello apocalypse" clark replies "there is nothing important than lana":hehe::hehe:

that made me think if writers intentionally pute that line to mock clark's relationship with lana

i wonder how can TW can deliver dilegae like this with staright face

no wonder he doesn't like the way almiles show clark all mopping

and i agree on apaclypse that episode seems like turnning point for clark

like i said i will be the LAST person to bash the show BUT when episode is so bad even i can't myself to point out the nagtaives in the episode

It's the natural thing, to discuss and critique any art or media. That's... kind of why it's there, isn't it?

It's very natural, and exactly why a message board is here. I didn't care for the episode myself but still enjoyed it because it's just a TV show. In the history of television when there is a long lasting show or not every show can't come across like it's a big budget movie. But to shred the writers etc. for a single episode that did contribute to the over all story just takes it too far IMO. I think because it is just TV the normal reaction would be "I thought this show was badly written" "I didn't like this episode, they should have done this or that" but to go on and on and question the professionalism of the writers for a TV SHOW is just too much. It happens to EVERY single show out there, especially when it has to come up with 22 different stories to tie into one. If this was a big budget film people should expect more but it's not. Is Superman a character that is above any other character in TV that needs special treatment? Any medium whatever the subject is still just a business and made to make money in the end. Could anyone of us here write 22 episodes and have them all be good?
So to the people shredding everything to do with the episode what would you do if the person you have been in love with for YEARS is a vegetable because of you? It looks like their life is at an end because of you, how would you react? Clark has no idea what Brianiac is up to? He's been up to things for a few years now why would this situation be different? It's wrong for his mind to be spinning in a thousand different directions and want to be at the persons side he knows it's his fault their life is pretty much over starring at walls? He's not superman yet, he's what 20 years old? And everyone wants him to know exactly what to do in any situation that if anyone of us were in the same situation we wouldn't know what the hell to do at that age!
Sorry if I offended anyone but TV is TV and will never change and Superman isn't all that special, he's just a made up Superhero made for a comic strip. I still love Superman but the people who made the weekly TV show could care less about that.
