Consider this: Clark picking up the desk (or a car) by the end would be the same (relatively) as you picking up a little toy matchbox car by the bumper, or a dollhouse-sized desk.
So, given Clark's otherworldy strength, it is completely realistic to see those things - and really cool too.
ETA: Oh wait... I get it. Are you thinking about the angle for breakage? Yeah... that's a valid point I guess, but no, it doesn't bother me. Forest through the trees, ya know?

But it's just as you said, there's no way that a bumper can support the whole weight of a car, and same about the desk. And that's my problem with it. But I still love the show, just like to point things out
