84th Annual Academy Awards (2012) - Part 2

Yeah...that's a nice thought, but I'm guessing less than half of those you mentioned actually get recognized by the academy.

Well Acting wise, I truly believe Leonardo DiCaprio will do some dangerous work for Quentin, and Daniel Day Lewis will be incredible as well. Spielberg has too perfect of a cast set up for Lincoln, HIGH HOPES for Nolan, Scott, and Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity and The Avengers will do some damage in the technical awards, and The Hobbit. Michael Giacchino for John Carter, Williams for Lincoln and Zimmer for The Dark Knight Rises.

Like someone said The Artist was pure Oscar porn although not intentionally.

The movie is legitimately really good it just happens to fancy all the buttons for the Academy.

The fact remains that the first Best Actor winner was from a silent film.

That's why I wasn't sure and asked the question. Fact remains you were wrong about the silent era and the Oscars.

i am sorry i just cant fathom how a movie black and white with no dialouge beats films in color, jaw dropping cinematography, fantastic scores, and with expertly written screen plays
by being the best.

artist was a cute fun film with lots of nostalgia ?sure

but best film of the entire year

give me a break guess some people have low standards

I was joking sir. Chill out.

And besides, what I said was actually true. The year that a silent movie won best actor ALL THE NOMINEES WERE SILENT. As I said.

For the record, I'm still shaken over Chivo loss. :csad:

Well I have to agree with what someone else said and say that the 20123 Oscars is gonna be loaded with with competition.

The Hobbit and TDKR alone have me freaking out.

With the 2013 Oscars, people are gonna be really happy or really pissed with the nominations and the winners for sure.

but to be honest some of the best films of the year weren't even nominated

Drive
Warrior
Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

just to name a few

Well, so passes the most forgettable Oscar ceremony in recent memory. It was nice to see Billy Crystal back albeit with a plastic face, but he wasn't on his A-game tonight. The highlights for me were "Man or Muppet" winning for Best Song, Billy Crystal's Nick Nolte impression, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy taking shots onstage....aaaaand that's about it. The lead acting wins surprised me. I thought Clooney and Viola Davis would win. "The Artist" winning Best Picture isn't surprising at all. Overall, it was boring. Or, I should say, it was more boring than usual. 2011 was a mediocre year for film in general. Hopefully next year's awards will be much more interesting and with any luck, there'll be some Batman and Hobbit action.

The lack of nominations for Drive and Source Code saddened me.

It's Drive, no suffix.

I was sad to see Refn not nominated for Director.

Don't get your hopes up for TDKR.

I'm glad The Artist won. Loved that movie.

Viola Davis was robbed. I love Streep and all, but come on now. The Oscars couldn't let two Black ladies win Oscars tonight?

Sorry, I missed the part where you said "technical awards." Yeah, I think most of those have a shot at that, but if Giacchino's beautiful score for Super 8 didn't get recognized, I'd be shocked if his John Carter score gets remembered after being released in March. The only one I think is a sure thing at this point is Day-Lewis for Lincoln, because, well, duh.
