87th Annual Academy Awards (2015) - Part 2

I will say, for as much as the Oscars get made fun of for awarding actors who played the handicapped or portray diseases, it was still a nice moment to see Juliane Moore and Redmayne use their speeches to at least attempt to raise awareness. Although ALS had plenty last year with the Ice Bucket challenge.

But no, actually I think Hawking very much seems to care about the film. He had a tear rolling down his face after they screened it for him, has been very publicly supportive and tweeted a nice message for Redmayne after he won.

Im more impressed with keaton then redmayne based on body of work. I have nothing against remayne but his acting has never left an impression on me and came off rather Forgettable. Like with jlaw i Feel both have yet to give that signature performance that cemented them as truly great actors.

But Oscars aren't given out for a Body of work they are given out for the best performance that year. Keaton may have a body of work that is worthy of an Oscar, though I don't think he does, it doesn't mean he should win just because he deserves it. All that being said I feel Cumberbatch should have gotten the award.

He was basically playing Sheldon Cooper.

Lilith Crane. If you're going to do this, you better go with the original. :o

Tell that to jeff bridges and martin scorcese.....

Yeah, I know what you mean. Redmayne kind of struck me as a spoiled 16 year old girl up there who just found out that daddy bought her the Lambo she's been begging for. And Keaton is the near retiree that's been steadily saving for the same car, but it was the last one in the lot and they're not making any more.

Lol overdramatic analogy, and maybe that's a little harsh on Redmayne but that was what was going through my mind as he lost his sh** up there.

Not taking anything from Redmayne's performance though, it really was a pretty incredible transformation. But he clearly played the better game was in it to win it.
I went to sleep before they awarded best actor, actress, director, and picture categories. But after seeing this gif on tumblr, I agree with you.

I don't really get why we should care if Redmayne really wanted the Oscar. So? It's considered the most prestigious award of his profession, and he's a young up-and-coming obviously ambitious actor.

Sure it's cool when some actors just do what they want and don't care about awards, but I don't think less of Redmayne for wanting it.

It's not cool to care.

Caring is like so mainstream now.

We only respect people who win things that have a "these awards are all pretentious ********, even though I won't be giving it back" mindset. :o

Hey, call me old fashioned but humility, or at least an attempt to project it, is never uncool.

I've really got nothing against Redmayne though. Good for him, but Keaton still rulez. :oldrazz:

Because people mad that KEaton didn't win just wanna s*** on him.

I mean really? People are calling him out for wanting to win he award badly :whatever:

All of those actors wanted to win. Keaton isn't a careerist actor but you can bet your ass he wanted to win just as much as the rest of them.

Whenever you participate in something everyone wants to win, but it's not viewed as cool, it comes off as needy to some apparently. Or not being done "for the art" but for the acclaim.

Martin Scorcese was the clear cut best director that year and while yes he should have won for Casino or Goodfellas he didn't win in 2006 because of his body of work he won because he was the best that year.

Bridges Won in a year that he was the best in too, sure he had been nominated 4 times prior but I don't think the academy just gave it to him based on his body of work otherwise Leo would have his by now.

Actors can say they don't care all they want but the truth is they do (or they end up realizing that they do). It's only human to want to be acknowledged/recognized for a job well done.

Except Joaquin Phoenix. He really doesn't seem like he cares.

I thought Redmayne acted like a young man should, he was astonished and he showed it. He is only 33, this is massive for him I just hope he doesn't Brody it.
