Chris Rock doesn't care about the race BS any more than I do. He can drop the fake shtick any time.

Where you saw heart and soul, I saw a fairly generic Oscar-baity [blackout]dying mentor[/blackout] performance, while I found Rylance's character to be a fascinatingly atypical portrayal of a spy, so as is becoming custom for us Hunter, we'll just have to agree to disagree yet again, lol.

To me it was a real person vs a thespian being an actorly in the performances, I think one connects with the man in the street and makes you feel, where as the other was solid but I dunno, just nothing memorable IMO. Oh well, I'm off as I don't care about anything else, hope Brie wins.

I think so, too. The whole "Leo getting no Oscar" thing feels like it's reached critical mass already. I haven't even seen the movie, but it feels like it's his time.
It'd be a disgrace if that plays into how he wins. He's easily got another decade of prime performances left in him. This is easily his weakest turn out up for awards.

This should've been Fassbender's to lose.

Ifnje had just gotten one for Gilbert Grape like he was posed to we wouldn't be in this ordeal.

There is no "if Leo doesn't win." He's winning.

When Brie Larson wins, do I get to play the, "I liked her first" card here? :o

Two things are happening tonight. Larson is winning Best Actress and Leo is winning Best Actor.

So much going on in the world and there's only one theme to todays show.

It definitely comes into play, though, looking through past shows. Fassy, much as I dig him, I think was miscast.

No, I agree, but it's also actually bothered me how they've made it such a (sorry for the pun) "black and white" issue with barely any mention of the other races and ethnicities that are fighting for inclusion and representation as well.

It's just been constantly referenced in some way or joked about between nearly every set of awards, including right now. Or at least it feels that way. It's overkill and pandering in the worst way at this point.

It's a shame because Chris Rock opened the show in the perfect way and addressed it perfectly.

I liked Fury Road but I just don't see what was so great about it. It was an adrenaline rush that looked really good with a pretty shallow but interesting story.

In that same token, would you say that Fassbender himself is overrated?
No I would not. I think Fassbender is a great actor who gave a pretty good performance in Steve Jobs but nothing I would rave about. I thought he was better in freakin X-Men.
