....that episode was awesome!! Sure is had it's typical WTF!? moments, but overall it was fast paced and very engaging. Usually when episodes move have so much going on and are fast paced, they come off rushed and messy, but this episode maintain various plots together very well and kept me at the edge of my seat.
The whole cast was great, especially Callum, Cassidy and Allison. I don't know how much input Justin had on the script, but with so many writers involved, I thought this would give the episode a muddled feel, but all 3 writers came up with some really great dialogue. Even Chloe's dialogue felt natural and her actions didn't feel contrived. The Tess/Chloe alliance felt so focred in "Upgrade" but in "Sacrifice" it didn't, there was a reason for them to work together and still hate each other. Allison and Cassidy played off each really well, although the "Chlollie' pimping from Tess was eye roll worthy! Seriously? This relationship is not gonna last very long yet they're trying it like Chloe and Oliver are soulmates!
Callum...I just have to say, for anyone who had a problem with him as Zod all season, this episode should end all that! This was Zod from the classic Superman films, everything he did in this episode from his first scene when he confronted Oliver to the last scene at the Fortress, this was the best representation of the character since Terrance Stamp last played the character. This was the kinda stuff I was expecting from Zod in "Upgrade" but thank god we got to see it here. His affair with Foara and the unborn baby plot was a suprising twist (although, the originals couldn't have children, that's why Davis was created....?) Anyway, Sharon Taylor (II) has been a very minor character since the premiere, but she really shined here. I really enjoyed her performance and I loved her scenes with Clark, not to mention her final scene with Zod. I was riveted and her death as well as the death of her baby by Zod was brutal. I loved,
loved how Zod listened to the baby's final heart beats, showing that while Zod had completely lost it and became the monster we all know, it was the final ounce of humanity he had. Clark was reduced to a supporting role this week, but all his scenes were well done. Clark just had a strong presence about him throughout this hour, a Supermanly presence and I finally warmed up to why he wants to make peace with the Kandorians. It makes sense that Clark would want to preserve his civilazation but protecting them from Zod, knowing what he is capable of.
A few more little notes:
-Amanda Waller's return was an unexpected surprise but I hope she isn't dead.
-Stuart returns as a Checkmate agent? Stuart? I get the whole revenge thing against Tess, but Jimmy was more intimidating than this guy.
-Oliver getting maimed by Zod....ouch and Oliver's screams while Clark was listening to it happen was very effective.
-Chloe's line about Tess about being Zod's ******. LOL
-The whole Batcave-eqse opening with Chloe was pretty badass, makes me wonder how confused Clark must have been when the elevator first scanned him.
-Wonders what Quentine Tarantino's reaction would have been to that Tess revival scene.
-Vala, Clark just told you Zod just killed your sister and you still join him? Yeah, it's not like you can trust Clark, the guy who saved your a$$ from Frankenstien like how many episodes back!
-When all the Kryptonians and Zod flew out the Fortress, I was expecting facepalm sound to echo throughout the fortress with Jor-El saying "Kal-El, my son...you really need to get on that *****!"
Definately the best episode this second half of the year and really got me excited for the last 2 episodes. Though I'm worried about "Hostage". "Sacrifice" could have been the
perfect penultimate episode. Not that Hostage will be filler or anything but this felt like it would lead right into the finale and Hostage will have a tough time giving us that
same feeling.
