James D'Arcy >>

I like this choice. He sounds a lot like Bettany as well. Hopefully with some touch up's, they'll make him look as close to him as possible.

Everyone should watch Master and Commander. Because you get BOTH Jarvis' onscreen.
D'Arcy's such a good actor. A very good choice for Edwin Jarvis.

To be honest real Jarvis doesn't need to be played by Bettany, I mean how would AI Jarvis have real Jarvis's voice anyway, it's only likely to be based on him in which case the actor need only be British and his performance influenced by Bettanys voice work.

Even then not necessarily considering Stark would have known Edwin Jarvis in his 50/60s , a lot of things can occur in 30 years.

I'm still confused though as to why this is set just after WW2 and before SHIELD, i thought she was working in an office not doing anything in that time?

I think the point of confusion here is that we got rumors of Bettany on set in an A:AOU flashback scene that involved a ballroom dance hall or something to that effect. Most took this to mean Bettany was playing RealJarvis in A:AOU. However, the fact that D'Arcy is playing RealJarvis in Agent Carter means either: (a) Bettany was not playing RealJarvis in that rumored A:AOU flashback scene or... (b) Bettany and D'Arcy are both portraying RealJarvis at around the same time period, and at a similar age, which would be a little off-putting to us "continuity nerds".

On the second point, in the MCU continuity, SSR formed sometime during WW2, continued after WW2 and subsequently was "re-branded" as SHIELD. Peggy was still working for SSR in the Agent Carter One-Shot, which was post-WW2. Her sexist boss essentially viewed her as inherently inferior to the male agents, therefore relegating her to a desk job... which accounts for your impression that she was pretty much just sitting in an office doing nothing.

Ah ok yeah the set rumors, i forgot Bettany was involved, yeah my continuity brain would hate if they were both playing him at a similar age. It is still struggling to cope with trying to form Coopers face into Slattery's.

I'm guessing it would suggest that Bettany wasn't involved (everyone seems to be spotted everywhere) or that he is portraying Vision/Human Torch.

So i'm guessing this 1st season because it is still SSR she is going to be fighting for work to do whilst people put her down for being a woman?

Then the 2nd season would be the formation of SHIELD

Yeah we're all a bit stumped by that one...

D'Arcy is an odd choice, but he looks butler-y

It would be great if he is playing the Synthetic Man from CA:TFA. At least his physical appearance could be the basis for Vision. It's only the personality of J.A.R.V.I.S that might come from Stark's butler.

I guess Darcy's hairline will have to recede at some point when he's older to look more like the comic Jarvis. Unless they get a different actor.

I read that as Darcy from Thor would have a receeding hairline :funny:

Yeah that's probably it, and I'm pretty sure Bettany denied that rumour around Comic Con.

So Tony creates and A.I. named J.A.R.V.I.S. (voiced by Bettany) based upon his father's old butler named Edwin Jarvis (played by James D'Arcy) which Tony may or may not have known. Later this A.I. evolves into Vision (played by Paul Bettany).
That's pretty much it, right?
So Bettany doesn't play Edwin Jarvis in A2.

Yep, that's what we're thinking.
I've ALWAYS thought that since the first Iron Man, I've said J.A.R.V.I.S. was based on someone Tony knew as a kid

There's even hints in Winter Soldier about the project that placed Zola's brain into the computers that had other scientist's brain pattern's saved too not just Zola. For all we know, HOWARD can be in those computer banks as well

Yup. Them's the broad strokes. Tony must've had a great deal of affection for RealJarvis to have based his go-to AI system on his personality. Howard wasn't the best dad to Tony, and I can see RealJarvis being something of a father figure to YoungTony.

A key actor from Boardwalk Empire is going from the 1920s to the 1940s.

Actor Shea Whigham has been cast as the male lead in Marvel’s Agent Carter, EW confirmed. Whigham will play the “tough but fair-minded Strategic Scientific Reserve Chief Roger Dooley, the man who will oversee agents Carter (Hayley Atwell), Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj),” Deadline first reported. In other words, Dooley is sort of the Agent Coulson of the SSR in this 1946-set series.

Whigham plays Nucky’s brother on Boardwalk, which is currently airing its final season. ABC’s Captain America spin-off series is expected to air in the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. slot between the show’s fall and spring runs (so you could say it’s ABC’s Tuesday night winter soldier).

I remember him from True Detective.

Apparently I need to get on Boardwalk Empire. Was hoping they'd cast someone else for Dooley. But the guy has some mad acting chops and respect, so I'm excited to watch him in action.

Hoping Enver is the eventual love interest though.... If they're going to have anyone be a love interest.

The casting for this show is really, for the most part, excellent. Now I just need to hear about more female characters.

I wonder why they made Dooley a character in the 1940s when he was a modern day one. He also wasn't the head of SHIELD or anything like that but a rather unsympathetic character who wasn't exactly "fair minded" at all. In fact, he was more like "one track minded" and perverted, and made She-Hulk strip naked in front of all the SHIELD agents and later on had her probed intimately while he filmed it all.

Is it going to be revealed that he's actually some kind of villain? Or at least some kind of chauvinist pig who clashes with Peggy Carter? Why would they otherwise rewrite the character of someone who is so notoriously perverted?

I find it hard to draw a comparison between him and Agent Coulson. Can you imagine Coulson telling Skye or Simmons to strip naked in front of everyone?

Yeah, I smell something fishy, too. Thomson and Sousa are original creations, AFAIK. So it seems odd that Dooley would be based on an existing character, one that is quite different than described, but in his original form kind of fits one of the themes of the show, ie misogyny.
