Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - S2E1 "Shadows"

To be honest, I found this was a disappointing start to the season. After the first few minutes set in 1945, the episode didn't work for me at all. After the last few episodes of the last season, I rally thought the show was going to be good from here on out. But based on this episode, it's going to be a mostly "Meh" season again...

Only thing that I can say at the moment is...did they really kill off Lucy Lawless? Waste of an actress. So disappointed.

If she is gone for good, that means that she's headed back to Pawnee, Indiana.

Why did she open the box?
Did she do it on purpose, knowing what the artifact does?
What if she is Madame Hydra?

She may come back stronger

And what is it with Budapest in the MCU? It was mentioned again

Madame Hydra was born in Hungary

I just have this feeling that
She's not Dead. Why bring somebody on just to kill them in the 1st Episode? would makee no sensee

Off to a great start already, the flashback part was my favorite as I adore period stuff. I refuse to believe Lucy Lawless to be truly dead and I'm expecting to see her again. One does not use Lucy Lawless in one episode.

anyone think Talbot son is not normal? Could be why he is protecting him during his interrogation with Coulson...... I won't be surprise if he is a "miracle" he will be target by HYDRA and Talbot won't be able to stop him even with military support since he could be in a area where US military won't be able to invade and must turn to Coulson

Great premiere, loved the absorbing man he was extremely well done. Loving the situation with Ward and man that fitz and Simmons reveal at the end. Damn.

Color me surprised that the same people who didn't enjoy last season don't enjoy the beginning of this one.. can't wait for all the "its doomed because of the ratings!" Posts in the coming days/weeks

since it 9 pm now I think the rating will go up.......it has much weak competition though so it should be around 2.1 to 2.3 range and hopefully at least 7 million

It's amazing how many people who hated last season decided to even watch this season. Think they just like to have something to complain about or hate on.

Really enjoyed the premiere. It'll be a shame if Lucy Lawless doesn't show up in any more episodes.

Haven't checked this whole thread but if Coulson referred to private sector sellouts in the conversation with May about recruiting, that would include Maria Hill.

If so, is Stark Industries isn't funding this, who the hell is? Secondly, how did Coulson maintain custody of Ward?

I am pretty sure we will get some answer in the coming episode.....because it seem strange for Coulson to personally recruit people himself...

Excellent episode. Feels like a completely different show... and that's not a bad thing. The show simply "looks" better, and the writing is considerably improved.

They seem to have done away with the sophomoric, goofy humor and made the tone more in line with that of CA:TWS, which is great. I'm not saying that they need to do away with the "funny" altogether. I don't expect them to and neither do I want them to. I just want the humor, when it comes, to be slightly more sophisticated and not something that often seemed to be geared towards making very small children laugh.

I would say that this was the second best episode of the series-to-date after "Turn, Turn, Turn". On the various plot threads...

* I don't think they do away with Lawless' character. Not that I'm against character deaths, but they didn't really do much with her before (apparently) killing her off. For example, take the case of her (theorized) girlfriend, Victoria Hand. They built a strong, well written character, gave her a lot of strong character moments, and when she finally died, it was really impactful, both in terms of plot as well as emotionally. Also, it doesn't make sense to have Hunter cut off her arm to save her and then moments after have her die in the car wreck. Um, outside of Misty Knight, do we know of any character that gets a bionic arm? :) I mean, she could be dead (as in DEAD), but I don't think so.

* I completely bought Ward's disintegrating mental state and thought it was quite well executed. He basically doesn't have anyone or anything to anchor himself to at this point outside of Skye, and feels like he has absolutely nothing to lose. Really liked the Lector/Clarice dynamic.

* The Fitz situation was handled in a really cool, interesting fashion. Really looking forward to where this goes.

* Creel was excellent. My only complaint is that, like Deathlok last season, he goes about things in a slow, labored fashion. I would like him to get a little more dynamic in his movements.

* Talbot vs. Coulson was really nicely played.

* Oh, and three cheers for Agent Carter and a couple of the Howlers!

Well, since Coulson is now Director of SHIELD,I'm guessing he has the say on where Ward stays.

C'mon now.How many people actually think Lucy is dead for realz?

And where's my poll?!?:argh:

but SHIELD don't exist at all........somehow Ward manage to get into his custody instead of US government......

May is the one that captured Ward and they have been ducking Talbot and the feds.I'm having a tough time thinking who else could have him but Coulson/SHIELD.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet General Reinhardt, alias Daniel Whitehall.

I liked the premiere. It might not be vastly improved, but it is consistent with the later part of last season. So pretty solid.

I liked the bits with Fitz, the Mercs (really hope Harley isn't dead).

Didn't like how the existence of SHIELD is being justified because the military and everyone else are too dumb to realize how much of HYDRA remains. Also, how much of HYDRA remains, which renders the events of CATWS somewhat pale.

But didn't CATWS itself show that Cap didn't defeat all of Hydra? Baron Von Strucker said that Hyrda's many bases will keep Cap and his colorful friends busy while they work on their real project.

All Cap did was expose SHIELD/Hydra(2 sides to the same coin). Cut off one head, and 2 more shall take its place.

Not true. Last season was a disappointment for tons of people and it's why the ratings were cut in half from the series premiere to season finale. It had tons of potential and I know plenty of people who, like myself, WANTED to like the show but it was way off. I continued to watch hoping it got better and it did in ways but I understood why people didn't like it.
Fast forward to this season and I loved this episode. I wouldn't label the people who hated last season and people who loved to hate it. It started out mediocre.
