Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD TV series for ABC - General Discussion - LEVEL 9

This show didn't interest me at all, but with the TWS ramifications... should I start?

The show has really improved on this 2nd half of the season. All the episodes that seemed like random one-offs have started to connect, and the storytelling and acting have both improved.

I just really hope that the show doesn't try to downplay the significance of the events that took place in "TWS" in this film, let alone try to do something like having Coulson....

rebuild SHIELD with his group from the ground up. SHIELD is gone...and unless it's brought back within the films, I really don't want to see it's second coming take place on the TV show and treat it like nothing when the films made such a big deal out of it.

One of the reasons why I'm worried is due to how the show, hell the very premise of Coulson being brought back to life, despite how important his "death" was to "The Avengers" on film felt like a cheap thing to do at times, especially when it's not made relevant within the films, which I feel should take first priority.

I mean you have a guy, who's pretty important to the MCU, that's killed off in one of the biggest films for the MCU, and then you have him quietly brought back to life on a tv show, where that information has yet to be touched on within the films.

Hence, why I'm worried that whenever the films do something big, the whedons will try to take that and downplay its significance by bringing it back in some form on their show.

i kinda disagree... Coulson is a C (B at best) level of importance in the films... he he really isn't even a supporting character like Pepper, Jane, or even Fury have been... he's a fan loved character.. and that's about it. The only role he ever played in films that was even significant to any plot would have been Avengers (and maybe Thor) That doesn't discredit his fandom nor how loved he is however... but him being erased from the franchise wouldn't have changed any of the films.

Having his "rebirth" on tv was a perfect way to handle such a character. Because doing so from a film would completely take away from the plot at hand. and the much more important characters.

Same goes for the concept of SHIELD rebuilding it self.. that's going to be a very long process.... and not one that needs to be shown on film. Maybe Fury's appearances can mention a few nods at it on film.. but that's all that needs to be mentioned. TV is perfect for it (if they go that route) and I honestly hope they do... SHIELD feels so no and barely seen in the MCU thus far hell we just saw the hellicarriers and how big shield really was in Avengers and this film... Id like to see them rebuild. But in a correct way.

Tonight's episode is going to be bonkers! Or at least it better be...

I guarantee you that 99% of the audience that watches this show watches the movie. But I'd be surprised if even 50% of the people who watch the movies watch SHIELD every week. So while the movie can affect the series, it doesn't make good sense for the series to majorly impact the movies as half the audience won't be able to follow.

it's a shame that they don't put out an official Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D magazine (Lost & Battlestar Galactica had them). i'd be the type of person to purchase such a magazine.

We aren't even finished with the first season... they're not going to start putting one out the second the pilot aired.

Did anyone else notice that Fitz apparently invented that:
laser thingy that Fury uses to escape the WS and that Hill uses to save Cap, BW, and Falcon in the movie?

So upset that I only caught the tail end of tonight's episode. I haven't been keeping up with the series, but have seen enough episodes to know what's going on. However, I'm upset that they showed a new episode on the one night that I wasn't able to see it from the beginning. Figured they would at least wait two weeks before showing a new episode that tied in with TWS.

Nevertheless the last 15mins I saw was good. Can't wait to see what becomes of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents...fingers crossed for S.W.O.R.D. Coulson and Co. don't know whom to trust.

Can anyone feel me in on what Coulson meant when he said to May "you're not a friend, but an ally?" What happened?

He found out that she was spying on him for Nick Fury and had actually manipulated him into picking certain members for his team.

Yeah, that was just superb!

I posted a variation of this list in one of the episode threads, figured I'd adjust it a bit and throw it in here as well just for reference.

As far as known grounded (so excluding helicarriers ;)) SHIELD locations/facilities go, so far we have:
  • The Triskelion
    Location: Washington D.C.
    Episodes Shown In: N/A (films)
  • The Hub
Location: Classified/Unknown (never even seen the outside of it)
Episodes Shown In: 1x7 "The Hub", 1x16 "End of the Beginning"
  • The Fridge
Location: Classified/Unknown (never even seen the outside of it)
Episodes Shown In: 1x3 "The Asset" (pre-credit stinger)
  • The Sandbox
Location: Classified/Unknown (desert region, some of the MCU wikis indicate Africa? - not sure where that info came from)
    Episodes Shown In: 1x6 "FZZT"
  • The Slingshot
Location: Classified/Unknown (also appears to be in a desert region, but something that looks more like the Southwest)
    Episodes Shown In: 1x2 "084"
  • The Academy (at least the Sciences & Technologies division)
Location: Unknown (we know it was a former S.S.R. facility, exterior looks like pretty much any standard college campus, so could be anywhere)
    Episodes Shown In: 1x12 "Seeds"
Does that sound about right to everyone?

Edit: I guess there's also the New York facility that Cap woke up in at the very end of The First Avenger
Edit Edit: And the Tromsø Observatory in Norway that Coulson sends Jane to in Avengers
Just to add to my list, in EP17 Hand makes reference to another facility:

The Treehouse (location unknown)

She also mentioned an East Africa base taken over by Hydra.

yeah i caught that, very cool.
[BLACKOUT]and he thought it had been scrapped but his invention was being used by top SHIELD brass all along heheh[/BLACKOUT]

I love that Hail Hydra has become a meme, LOL

Garrett even has that line about "the top brass always gets the cool toys."

Wow, over 200 views in this forum. :wow:

*shakes fist* what happened to this being the age of instant gratification?!!

I love that Hail Hydra has become a meme, LOL

i'm still waiting for "Ready A.I.M fire" to become a thing.

Well Hydra was the threat in SHIELD Season 1 via "Centipede".

Maybe AIM will be the threat in season 2.

Of course it will probably have to be used in another movie to become a meme.

I've only watched this show here and there so far. After seeing Cap 2 (which was awesome) and seeing this episode and how interconnected it all is I just thought it was so cool! I'm going to be watching every week!
