Well Hydra was the threat in SHIELD Season 1 via "Centipede".

Maybe AIM will be the threat in season 2.

Of course it will probably have to be used in another movie to become a meme.

Avengers 2 maybe. they get a lot of exposure in the comics. now would be the perfect time to capitalize on it.

S.H.I.E.L.D. as you know it may be gone, and that's bad news for Earth and Nick Fury! There's a new danger stalking Nick— to stop it, he must band with his friends.

Just watched Ep17. Awesome!!!

Glad I was right about May working for Fury. :woot:

Very, very disappointed by Garrett, but not surprised. Still not convinced that he is THE Clairvoyant and not a high level foot soldier. :cmad:

And sadly completely wrong about Ward.

Oh well ... a great story is only as good as it's antagonists are problematic to the hero(s).

Amador was mentioned again. What happens to her?

Is that really Ward??? WE lost sight of the fight for some seconds.....

It's not Mystique. I'm well aware that it's not Mystique. That being said, Mystique first showed up in Ms. Marvel and I'd laugh my *** off if it was Mystique.

Ohhh Crap WTHECK just happened. My brain cant take all of this

[BLACKOUT]Back Widow's face mask thingy![/BLACKOUT]
:wow:

Nah, I'm still all for undercover Ward.

Yep calling it now. Heres my theory. I don't think ward killed Hand or those agents. I think he shot them so they survived but it would look like he killed them so he could gain Garrets trust and infiltrate Hydra. Just before Ward gets on the jet with Hand thats transporting Garret. ward gives Coulson a sort of look or nod of acknowledgement like he was saying I know what I have to do sorta thing.I also think that Hand will end up being in on it all along. Coulson will end up having to tell Sky about it because Sky will start freaking out thinking Ward betrayed them and Sky will tell Fitz and Simmons. or Coulson will end up just telling all of them the plan.

Brett Dalton's fully embracing Hydra over on Twitter.

We’ve known what Captain America: The Winter Solider was all about since we came together a year ago. And so we knew that we were doing a show called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that in the movie, S.H.I.E.L.D. gets blown up. And it’s full of the “H word” [Hydra.] And so we’ve been working with the studio from the get-go towards this moment. Our challenge was that we couldn’t say the “H word” until after Captain America 2…so we had to have an ongoing threat that we’ve called Centipede, that we’ve called The Clairvoyant, that we’ve called other things, because we could not say the word Hydra. What wasn’t a challenge was coming up with twists and turns, and making you think it was this person, because we work very hard to hopefully hide the ball with who it is.

BELL: Let me put this on another level: Ward had put Garrett on this plane for a reason, and so he had to come in and be accepted to this team. And so if you’d look at how he related to everyone — Coulson loves projects. Here is a guy who didn’t have people skills. So Garrett says, can you help this guy Ward round off some of the rough edges? So he comes onto the team. Coulson is now vested, because he’s got a project. Who is Ward’s greatest threat? May. What does he do? He seduces her. Who is the one unknown on the team? Skye. He becomes her S.O. How do you get everyone rally around and trust you? You jump out of a plan trying to save someone else. Now, he had a parachute. Let’s say he failed to save Simmons, he would’ve been fine. Everything he’s done has solidified how people feel about him over the course of the season.

LOEB: And what was the next thing he had to do after he saved Simmons? He had someone on the plane who was jealous of him: Fitz. And what did they do? They went on a mission together and they had a really good time together. And a bromance was started. And that took care of that.

BELL: And then even when he was with Lorelei, and she was talking about the darkness inside of him and the other qualities, she saw something that a lot of other people hadn’t seen. So we feel like we laid things out pretty well. Because you don’t want to over tip your hand, but we think people are pretty smart, and you can look back and go, “oh yeah, it was all there the whole time if I had looked.” And what’s fun now that you’ve seen 17, watch it again, or watch 16 again, and every look Ward does seems to have a double meaning.

Give me an example of something that might be a little less “obvious” than the Romanov line that could be fun for viewers to realize.

LOEB: We’ll give you one that’s a lot of fun, and that’s in “Seeds,” episode 12. Towards the very end, there’s a lovely, heartwarming moment where Skye is standing in front of the fallen S.H.I.E.L.D. agents through the decades. Watch that scene, and keep an eye on Ward.

BELL: And what she’s saying as you’re looking at him.

Anyone remember what she said?

That interview is really making me second guess the theory of Ward being on a solo deep-cover revenge mission.

I don't know what to think since I really didn't see Ward's turn coming. Any number of things can happen now that the big surprise has come out and the season finale is fast approaching.

So then there is no Clairvoyant according to that interview? I guess Paxton actually is the Clairvoyant giving Hydra intel. Hmm. Interesting.

Its pretty obvious who the HYDRA sleeper agent in this picture is.

Scene starts around :30.

"Must Make you guys proud... all this history, just wish I was a part of it."

Even better basically responds with: "All you need is a dedication to the greater good." Valuing free will, not so much.
Thing is, that's not at the end of the episode like the interview was indicating. At the end of the episode, Coulson is doing a voice over saying:

"Her whole life she wasn't wanted, that she didn't belong, that every family that took her in didn't want her to stay. Didn't care. But all that time, it was SHIELD protecting her, looking after her. That's what she took away from the story. Not the family she'll never have, but the one she's always had. Here I am telling her something that could destroy her faith in humanity and somehow she manages to repair a little piece of mine. The world is full of evil..."

note: the camera pans from Skye looking at the wall at this point to Ward behind her, watching her, smiling slightly

"...and lies and pain, and death, and you can't hide from it. You can only face it."

cut back to Skye looking at the wall, specifically Agent L. Avery's name

"The question is when you do, how do you respond? Who do you become?"

So I guess that interview confirms that Ward is in fact a traitor. I don't really buy this whole triple agent stuff. He shot the agents in the head. If it had been in the chest, it would be easier to fake the blood, but where are blood capsules going to be attached on a person's head? I don't believe Ward would also shoot SHIELD agents for real as part of his cover.

If he has been a Hydra agent all this time, then it would make things a lot more interesting. The only thing I wish was that he actually said "Hail Hydra" at the end. The lack of it makes it slightly more ambiguous.

Also, if Brett Dalton has been playing the part of a wooden, generic agent all this time whom we all find rather bland, but only because he was told to play it this way, and he's actually got a greater range, then he might be a much better actor than we give him credit for.
