Alfred Pennyworth in the reboot

Hmm. Maybe his mundane vibe could boost Alfred's comic relief effect lol

But another beef I have is that I can't see him as an Alfred that would care to handle a scarred Bruce Wayne as a boy. With Brosnan, he can be a great father figure when given the role. Alfred needs that sensitivity. I can't see that in Rickman.

Good point. I can't see that either. But to be fair, my experience with Rickman is limited to the Harry Potter films.

How about something a little more "left field" for Alfred?
Hugh Grant.

A bit too wet, I think. Anthony Head does the same thing better.

What do you mean by wet? Young maybe? Sorry English not my 1st language. Also I'm not familiar with Anthony Head.

I think Bill Nighy could be an interesting Alfred.

For an actor in the Hugh Grant mold, I'd go with Colin Firth.

yeah in like 15 years maybe... definitely not now though

Better to "age up" a "younger" person than to go with a very old actor imo.

How about a woman? Just throwing different ideas out there for fun.

So you basically mean Aunt Harriet? **** no to female alfred. If we're going to have an old lady mentor for Bruce, it better be Leslie Thompkins.

Not familiar with Aunt Harriet (is that from the 60's TV show?) or Leslie Thompkins. Like I said, just throwing ideas out there for fun, in good spirit.
Still think Bill Nighy could pull off a cool Alfred though, maybe.

Judi Dench was a great Alfred to Daniel Craig's Batman. Not joking.

There are a lot of different ways you can take Alfred. We've already had Gough's prime and proper take and Caine's cockney surrogate father. I can see Alan Rickman or Jeremy Irons as a leaner, more sarcastic Alfred, Brian Cox or Brendan Gleeson as a robust, heavy Alfred, Liam Cunningham as a younger, more vigorous Alfred. I could even accept an American Alfred, although the only names I can think of are the long dead John Huston and Vincent Price.

I like these.

The Craig movies could easily translate to Batman films. Bond and Batman are largely identical, and the portrayals and M.O.s of some of the Bond villains could very easily be adapted to Batman's villains.

Hell, I think Mads Mikkelsen could be a great Black Mask. And after seeing Javier Bardem's portrayals of Anton Chigurh and Raoul Silva, I feel like he could really get into The Joker's mind.

As far as I was concerned after seeing Skyfall, Raoul Silva WAS Joker. I was waiting for Prince to play during the chopper scene lol

In a way, Silva brought out some of the interesting things about The Joker that the movies haven't yet addressed, such as the homoerotic thing. There is also the potential for The Joker to briefly emerge as a human entity- but with the suspicion that it is all a ruse. Both B89 and TDK- phoney scar stories excepting- largely presented the character as daemonic rather than in any way vulnerable.

That's for a different thread, of course...

But wouldn't we need Harley in order to have that with Joker?
She's the only character who gets to see a different more fragile side to him.

Silva opened that same door only with M.
