I feel that mostly stems from the "kid-friendly" approach or however they decide to describe Marvel's way, which is weird due to the source material and I'm gonna say the DCAU since that has had such a huge influence on kids and teens outside of comics.

I don't understand the "kid friendly" angle either. Iron Man had RDJ romping in bed with a reporter. GOTG had an ejaculation joke AND opened with a character dying of cancer. Cap 1 had Nazi killing. Are the Marvel movies accessible to younger audience? Absolutely. Like Star Wars and Indiana Jones and Back to the Future were. But they're still very adult themed as well. Accessible. That's the key word.

But if you keep derailing this thread by whining about that, you’ll be taking a break from doing it.

Why? That is what he's been doing. He has been posting pro Marvel anti DC rhetoric all day, posed questions to supporters of the movie and then either blatantly ignored or dismissed the responses from posters he doesn't agree with. All of the while posting his opinions as fact and acting as if his opinions on the film are superior to others. He did in fact post that a "friend" saw it with him and thought Alfred and Bruce were gay lovers, because as he claimed the film gives us nothing to dispute that they aren't. After several posters directly addressed this ludicrous criticism by giving obvious details in the movie that refute it he continued on posting about how it was poor storytelling. Also he repeatedly made reference to Marvel films as examples of doing it better, and I was relatively certain I've seen people get probationary or permanent banned for Marvel vs DC talk for years. Especially when it is off topic and people have been getting banned for off topic posting in other threads. I mention it being a joke on this forum and couple of days ago and I get a mod responding to me to find a different forum. However posters who are on the negative side towards this movie can go off topic and ignore other posters after directly responded to mid discussion/debate or outright ignore other posters who support the movie's posts all together?

Which is also the keyword I heard in the days prior to and after the release of BvS... the movie may be inaccessible to general audience.

Right?

All-ages, four quadrant. Things like that. But, this is "serious business" and supposed to be like "real life" and "relatable".

I am sure kids are well versed in Jackson Pollock paintings.

Hey when I saw BTTF for the first time I had no idea what "parking" meant. It was years later when I realized "oh **** his mom wanted to hook up." But as a kid it's light enough that it acts as a silly bit of levity. Why can't DC infuse the same sort of all-accepting audience pleasing stuff like that? What are they scared of?

I am pretty sure the Mister Freeze episode from BTAS is far more mature than anything in BVS. You know, BTAS, a show for kids.

And people who grew up with these characters want to bring their kids. Opening night of TFA, we made room in our row so a dad and his son could sit together. The guy thanked us, and said “You have no idea what this means to me.”

Our whole row replied “Yes we do!”

I loved bringing my 8-year-old nephew to see Star Wars. He was so fun to watch during the movie - he was on the edge of his seat, he was running in place when Rey and Finn were running from the TIE Fighters, he clapped when he saw Han and Chewie. It was SO great.

And I saw so many families there - it was such a big deal.

How does DC NOT want that?? You don’t have to compromise these characters to have that.

I would argue the journey Bruce goes on in the Schumacher films was more mature than BvS.

Honestly... I feel like this was what I was trying to say back when MoS was released.

I'll give you Iron Man, Indianna, etc, but GOTG was certainly juvenile. It seemed tailored to giggling pre-teen boys most of the time and that joke was a prime example.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying anyone who enjoyed said movie is what I described (we all see things differently), but that's the vibe I got from the film and I don't think it belongs in the esteemed Indiana category (truly a film for all ages).

^ Outside of lightsabers drawing more blood than usual, I don't think there's anything worse than what's on TV in TFA.

Contrast that with bathtub splashing and creepy genetic experimentation, and I think BvS alienated a core group:kids (and their parents ;))

Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. A Superman movie that's inaccessible for kids. Superman. Who should be their beacon. And Batmurder. And a grimdark angry Aquaman/Conan hybrid. Are they still making a Flash movie like Se7en? I almost lost it when I read that

WB doesn't respect them. I used to cover the "premieres" of the animated movies at the Paley Center and it was clear WB didn't give a damn about that side of the house. Kevin Conroy had to pay for his own cab to one of em. No respect. It's why hearing Snyder use the phrase "comic book dorks" really struck a nerve. I've heard that phrase before from WB suits.

Jesus, even now, in the golden age of CBM's the people in charge there are throwing **** like that around?

WB, there's a comic book dork in charge of Marvel Studios for quite a while now... I hear that's going pretty well.

I am tired of grimdark Batman. I want someone to put Grant Morrison's Batman on screen. I wonder how the public will react to that.

The next generations of fans are just as if not more important than the current ones. Be it Marvel or DC or Star Wars or whatever. Don't deny them what we had. It's selfish

Wait, what?

BvS superman was inaccessible for a lot of people, not just kids. He was barely a character.

Yep. I'm really with you on that Flash film. How does that even happen?

It's like the execs don't know the existence of successful depictions outside of the comics that helped keep these characters viable and gain fans since we know the comics don't have that big of an audience.

To be fair Arthur Curry is a king and Barry Allen is a forensic scientist. It's all about presentation. If Snyder was directing those movies, he'd make everything excessively grim.

They're light, humorours, colorful, simple, predictable, kind of dumb in many ways, which makes them look and feel almost like sunday morning cartoons. The fact that they might have a dirty joke here and there doesn't change the fact that they're very cheerful and easy to understand. They're also mostly action driven instead of character or story driven. All this makes it ideal for kids who are simply looking to have fun watching super heroes blowing stuff, without having to think too much about what's going on.
