Man, you guys love to complain and worry about some really stupid things. Must be the bad taste left by the Smallville finale and Superman Returns. Who cares about when it comes out? If its a great movie, people will see it, doesnt matter if it has competition or not.

Says the guy whose still talking and complaining about Superman Returns?

A bad movie isnt a stupid thing to complain or talk about...

A release date for movie that hasnt even come out and we know nothing about is, imo. WB is going to figure it out. Theres no need to worry about competition if its a good movie...

Are we really sure that Star Trek will be out in Dec. 2012? Last I heard, they are still waiting on Abrams, and he hasn't signed on yet.

Ironic considering how much you openly talked about how much you hated said Smallville finale. To the point of trash-talking Welling to start fights with the posters over there.

Let's break it down.

Jamie, Dark Knight, myself posting and debating about the release dates of Superman, Star Trek, and Hobbit and how each will effect the other for one or two days.

You posting and debating about Superman Returns for the past 5 years.

What we're complaining about is a "stupid thing"?

A release date for movie that hasnt even come out and we know nothing about is, imo. WB is going to figure it out. Theres no need to worry about competition if its a good movie...
We're debating. That's why you post on a forum. If you don't like the conversation, don't participate. That's the beauty of a forum.

It's a sequel to a movie that made 257 Million domestic & 385 Million WW with 100 Million in DVD Sales from 11/22/09 to 10/31/2010. The general public seems to already like it and will like a sequel just as much if not more.

Nobody is saying Superman or Hobbit is going to get squashed, but for you to act like Star Trek doesn't matter is so shortsighted.

Nobody is calling Star Trek...Star Wars. Superman and Hobbit are not Star Wars either. If Superman is such a big time property Returns wouldn't have just squeaked by 200 Million domestic.

You can't sell Superman on the fact that it is Superman. It already didn't work.

Dude, I'm not disputing how much Trek made at the Box Office, but your acting like those #'s make Trek some some Box Office juggernaut to be afraid of? It's not Pirates, it's not TDK, it's not LOR's and it's not Star Wars.

Treks #s are comparable to what an underwhelming Superman Returns film made at the BO.

Can you imagine how much more a kick ass, epic Superman film with great action that is the complete opposite of SR will make at the Box Office?

I was actually making fun of all this worry that WB should or shouldnt release this movie in whatever date. I mean, really?!?! Competition doesnt mean a thing if the movie is great.

I wasnt even talking about SR. I just said that this worry might be a bad taste left because of disappointing Superman related media in the past years... and this disturbing lack of news.

I never said it was any of the films you mentioned, but competition is competition. A sequel to a successful movie that made 250 million + domestically is solid competition.

Combine that with Hobbit (which you yourself called a BIG time franchise) and it doesn't put a Superman film in a good position, two weeks apart or no two weeks. Would you rather Superman was given a head start at the starting line or they put him five steps behind the line?

Numbers aren't close domestically, where it matters.

Probably a lot, but don't let your fanboyism get in the way of reality.

Looks like DC is revamping.......again.

DC Address Line "Revamp" in Letter to Comic Book Retailers

Many of you have heard rumors that DC Comics has been working on a big publishing initiative for later this year. This is indeed an historic time for us as, come this September, we are relaunching the entire DC Universe line of comic books with all new first issues. 52 of them to be exact.

In addition, the new #1s will introduce readers to a more modern, diverse DC Universe, with some character variations in appearance, origin and age. All stories will be grounded in each character's legend - but will relate to real world situations, interactions, tragedy and triumph.

With the big Superman announcement coming in June, I wonder if the lawsuit has made some big changes to DC's Superman.

I disagree. That would mean a great Superman film would make the same amount of money if it was up against Without A Paddle 3 & Ishtar 2 as it would up against Star Trek 2 and Hobbit.

IMO DC is just doing Age of Apocalypse with their universe

How 1995 of them.

well what i mean by that is a major event changes the universe and the heroes must find a way to get back.....Flashpoint changes the universe (Legion went back and time and killed Xavier...the entire X-line was relaunched with number 1's and reimagined....line ran its course and everything switched back to the way it was more or less)....I think its coincidental that they are launching 52 titles

It's not a given. Plus the script isn't even close to being ready yet and they are not even in pre production. That Trek film will also need a crap load of CGI/SVX done in post as well.

The domestic #'s are close enough IMO. Oh and please don't go there regarding "reality" Show.

I want to see a kick ass Superman film way more than a Trek sequel and I'm willing to bet most of the general movie going public does also.

I can easily call you a "Trekkie" based on your OPINION that a Trek sequel will be some Box Office Juggernaut that everyother movie should be afraid of.

A post made about this news and no picture to go with it? I'm confused and disappointed, I must say.

See that Superman? No trunks. What looks to be a slightly different cape design. A slightly different S shield. And much younger looking. Is this a preview of new movie Superman? I have no idea. But I'm digging the new costume. I wouldn't mind if the movie suit looked like that.

Ok, so they change Superman in preparation for losing some of the rights. What does that mean? Do they stop calling him Superman from now on? At worst, I can accept them having to change the costume around some, but they CAN'T change the origin and they CAN'T give him a new name.

Yes it's clear that it is a strategic move: "Dear Siegels, even if we lose we'll continue to sell our Superman, while you can't go nowhere with your #1 Action Comics crap". They'll call it "The Man of Steel". Nevertheless IMO their final purpose is to come an agreement.

Yes, well now we get a chubby faced, spikey haired Superman with an uninspired, bland suit who probably no longer comes from Krypton and instead gets the generic "super serum" origin for his powers.

If I were to guess right now, with zero actual information to base this on, I would guess that this won't be like Marvel's Ultimate universe where some stories and characters are completely different. This will, in my opinion, be a gigantic cosmic reset button, doing what the first Crisis should have done and restart everything from the ground up. No conflicting origins, no Power Girl popping up out of nowhere, no question as to whether Wonder Woman was a founding member of the JLA, no multiple origin stories of Hawkman in order to make his golden and silver age stories make sense together.

This will be the classic story of Superman, and that's it. This is his origin story. We will not need any Man of Steels, Birthrights, Secret Origins or what have you's. Lex will be a buisnessman who is also a criminal. We'll see the first encounters with Brainiac, Metallo, Parasite and all the other fun buddies. We will have one continuity with one story that will grow from here. It will eliminate any and all confusion from the DC universe, allowing stories to go forward from here.

At least, that's what I hope will happen. A DC universe with actual continuity. Imagine that. Almost too good to be true.

I take it that this will be the costume they will use in Man of Steel, no?

Nice work to DC for getting us warmed up to it.
