Someone asked Jim Lee on Twitter why Superman needs knee pads.

Jim Lee answer was: "Read Action Comics and find out!"

Rumor is that Grant Morrison is the new writer of Action Comics, and they will probably confirm that this Friday.

Perhaps Superman has arthritis.

Makes you wonder if they may switch back to the original ways if Sales BOMB and DROP once these new issues released.

I hope to God they do go back to the old suit, as in fact they have before when other changes were made.

There's a reason why it is classic DC!

See, this is the biggest problem with Superman. People are always calling him old and dated and boring and yet if you change ONE thing like the costume, the fans unleash a tirade.

Maybe fans complained like this when they were updating the X-Men costumes every five minutes in the 90s, I don't know. Or maybe they WOULD have if the Internet was used as it is today. But regardless... it's just a costume, people. And I highly doubt ANYONE would look at that and not know it's Superman, unless it was someone completely unfamiliar with the character.

Of course people are going to care more about Superman's image than they are about the X-Men. Superman's image has been consistent for decades bar very small changes.

Not to mention the fact that X-men are basically shunned by society, whereas Superman is an iconic image. The simplicity of the suit, the primary colours, were all important in making him seem less of a threat.

You start adding armour style features, and your taking away from that.

At the end of the day, he's not like other Superheroes. His costume isn't supposed to be 'cool', with seams and a utility belt, like a cross between Superman and Batman.

He's just supposed to be Superman.

I never thought I'd see the day, but even the Brandon Routh costume looks better

I don't like that look. It doesn't sit right.

You know, I would have thought the whole, "The costumes can't work on screen" argument for any superhero movie ever would have died in 2002 when Spider-Man came out and was fine despite looking exactly like the comics. Are we still in that same mindset? Really? They can't try to adapt the costume after other movies have done so and been fine? Can someone really give me a reason why they can't do it that isn't some variation of, "What works in comics doesn't work on film"?

Spider-Man. Yes. Direct translation from the comics. And yet...

Oh, and by the way;

These beat black leather any day.

Not for me. They look good enough but that yellow looks a tad ridiculous.

The new suit!!

So this is it?

I read a lot of complaints before seeing the actual suit. And it's not that bad. It looks like Superman with some things here and there. I died a little when I saw the electric suit, now that is un-Superman.

I really don't get the logic behind any of the changes.

Why would Superman need knee pads? Why would Superman need what looks like a utility belt? And what the hell difference do pronounced seems and a high collar make anyway?

I'm not against change altogether, but this is just weird IMO.

Ah well, why does Superman need a cape, or trunks or a belt at all?

But yes, I can see some pointlessness in some of the changes (specifically kneepads). But the suit shows some alien(Kryptonian)-made details and that has a point.

I find it extremely funny when big corporations try to change things like this, then act all surprised when it doesn't do well. ( insert facepalm here )
You would think they would ask the consumers beforehand what they thought first before spending millions on something doomed to fail.

Lets see, spend a couple million on a few polls in magazines and on websites, or, spending tens of millions on a redesign that the fans hate...hmmm, thats a tough one. But hey, it's not my money, jus saying......

Now THAT is some bad suit.

No spider-webs, just lines and changes that are so isiotic like that blue indentation on Spiderman's back so they can have a long red spider there.

Does anyone think we will ever see Darkseid on film? Or Brainiac? I'm sure most of you are tired of Zod and Luthor, like me. I hope we get some new villians in a Supes movie someday.

But... but... he has webshooters now! Not organics! He's not MAN-SPIDER anymore! :woot:

They re trying to distinguish themselves from the Raimi movies and they re trying a different design. Hell, Spiderman changes his suit every 10 issues, so its no problem really just as long as the suit looks good. I personally reserve judgement till we see it in action.

Its comics, yellow is fine. Those leather suits were the bad ones, not these.

The yellow suits from X-Men FC grew on me but when I first saw them, all I could think was "crossing guards."

Personally, I am tired of the Gene Hackman/Donnerverse Lex Luthor. He is not as threatening as he should be, and he doesn't really seem to have a reason to be Superman's arch-enemy instead of just his enemy. I thought it was a crying shame that Kevin Spacey basically did the same thing as Hackman, what a missed opportunity. I personally wouldn't mind if they brought Kevin Spacey back to play his own version of Luthor, because I know he can do intimidating
, just watch SEVEN/SE7EN
. I would not mind at all if Lex Luthor were brought back if they did something new with him. Have him be a very smart billionaire who has deeper reasons for his obsession with killing Superman, and I will have no problem with him coming back.
I also wouldn't mind if they brought in more villains as well.

I agree with you there. I totally agree that Spacey was wasted. He could have been so much better if they had gone in a different direction with the character. I really like the S:TAS version of Lex. Complex corrupt bussinessman who has visions of world domination through subterfuge and lies. If they don't use that Lex in Man of Steel I will be sooo annoyed.

I agree. My question is what should his motive for trying to kill Superman be? Is he a humanist, a megalomaniac, or does he envy Superman? Maybe even a combination of the above.

Also, I love the yellow and blue suits in X-men: FC. I agree with Mr. Earle. The black ones were stupid. They were meant to be more realistic, right? They were just bland.

Well, the upper part is fine, because apart from the seams it's pretty much the Superman we know:

And then there's the bottom:

WTF is that? Looks like someone mated Superman with the Ironman from the 70s. Or a character from Masters of the Universe. Ugly and... POINTLESS!

Unless.. they're slowly revealing a completely new look altogether bit by bit.

:whatever:

I'm more annoyed by the fact that the Daily Planet Globe fell over again. Seriously, how many times is Supes going to have to catch that damn thing? If I was him, I'd be like, "Enough with this crap! I'm chucking this stupid thing in the ocean before it kills somebody!"

Love it. Definitely a combination of the all those. He is on his way to becoming more and more powerful through LexCorp and possibly politics...he has a long-term plan (of course) and then Superman shows up and throws a wrench in his plans.

Also I've always seen Lex as supremely jealous of Superman's powers. I think that above all else is why he hates him. I see him sitting in his office sipping scotch (is that what he drinks?) fantasizing about how he would use those powers. He thinks that Superman is so naive and stupid, and wastes the potential those powers represent.

I like that idea.

I like the character of Lex Luthor...you just have to make his part in the story a threat to Superman. Luthor attempting to become the most powerful man in the U.S. is a threat against Superman. There are a few other ways that he can be a threat, but just trying to acquire land is so lame.

They re trying to distinguish themselves from the Raimi movies and they re trying a different design. Hell, Spiderman changes his suit every 10 issues, so its no problem really just as long as the suit looks good.

Which is not the case.

Designing an awful suit is never a good choice, no matter how much they're trying to disting¡uish this from Raimi's take.

I personally reserve judgement till we see it in action.

Well, I don't need to see it moving to critizise the design. The design is there.

Its comics,

Actually it's a movie.

Those leather suits were the bad ones, not these.

Actually none is a bad suit, but the yellow on these looks a tad ridiculous. In fact the X-Men themselves weren't too happy about the suits, "Do we have to use those?", (or something like that). It was impossible for them to wear those yellow suits with a straight face.
