The movie is going to be really good from what we've heard. The general public is the question mark.
Uh don't studios make 200mil films with the general public in mind. And I'm only being slightly facetious.

So we actually have heard something truthful and reliable? Or are you talking about you guys?

actually screenings happen all the time. TDKR screened, we tried to see it but it was packed.

How long are we talking? Usually if they do those they're only a few weeks before, and they're the final cuts of the film.
I saw Watchmen about 3½ weeks before it was released at a screening in Hollywood, but the whole screening was being filmed to get audience reaction shots.
Afterwards there was a Q/A session with Snyder and Malin Ackerman (I know I spelled it wrong, but that's her fault for having a weird name.)

Isn't there a difference between an advanced screening and a test screening? Shouldn't a test screening be a couple of months before the release so the studio can make changes to the film if neccessary?

Haha yes. I just don't if the general public cares enough about Superman, they have to make them care. They haven't yet.

Early public screenings usually only happen if certain people in the studio aren't happy with the movie. And with Nolan producing I'm guessing it's in his contract that movies he's involved with won't get public screenings before the release date. The bigger the movie the less likely it is that there will be a screening like that.

i think they could happen with MOS.

If they can care about giant robots punching each other or a man in an Iron suit with a big green rage monster punching ugly aliens, I don't see why they wouldn't care about a badass looking Supes punching giant robots and leveling cities during battles with his enemies. I mean, isn't that what sells? Why else did Transformers 3 make 1,1 billion dollars WW after the turd that was Transformers 2 (and with a June release date) ?? Of course, that had a badass SB spot showcasing the selling point while WB seems to think MOS will sell just because it's Superman and Nolan. :o

I saw it!!! Loved it up until clark said he wanted a spot of tea and some fish and chips ( damn brits )

That's an advanced screening. The movie is pretty much already done. I go to test screenings. I saw Jack about three months ago. The GI Joe 2 screening was in December. Most of these screenings will have a questionnaire at the end to fill out...they also group people by age group.

No they certainly haven't. It's almost like they don't have a marketing strategy right now.

To be honest I think not having a Superbowl spot was a mistake....Superbowl, Superman...the marketing makes itself.

They need the proper product. hopefully we finally get it this summer.

It makes me suspicious of a film's quality when a studio hides the film. Not saying that's fair but my feelings are my feelings.

Well we are in the age of secretive film making popularized by JJ Abrams and Nolan.

yeah, the no SB spot was a huge miss, imo.

it just feels like WB doesn't want to market it at all........

where are the posters? magazine covers?? viral marketing stuff?? photos?? cupcakes??

you can never go wrong with cupcakes!!

WB, are you listening??!!

WB don't so super bowl spots. Troy, Speed Racer, Poseidon, Batman Begins all got them and disappointed opening weekend. The Dark knights and Harry Potters didnt, and opened huge anyway. They're not that important any more. If you hit a home run with it, it can be effective, but it isn't the 1990s anymore, when ID4, MIB, Godzilla all got them and instantly became the summers most hyped films.

Besides, the trailers aired before 2 films which combined to make ~750m in the USA and near 2 billion world wide. Exposure its going to be much of an an issue.

True and yet... both of Abrams' Star Treks got big Super Bowl spots.
And they are only trying to pretend that the villian isn't Khan, that is the only thing being "hidden." The film's marketing has been fairly straight forward besides that. There plan is to market the mysterous villian. Now WB's plan is to release the trailer and then...? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

yeah, the no SB spot was a huge miss, imo.

I want cupcakes!

Posters are around. More to come. Magazine covers? EMPIRE in the UK/Europe, elsewhere. They are holding for the short-attention span U.S. audience and will blitz in the upcoming months. [Focus is on 'Jack' and 'Burt' right now, then 'Hangover.']

Superbowl without the Super-man can divide opinions, understood, but as you may have already noticed, they are consciously avoiding the character's moniker itself...as evidenced by the title of the film.

Not an avoidance, rather...but more of a marketing/cultural re-position.

28 million YouTube views hasn't hurt...

You will see cupcakes...and more!
