Yeah, the color correction wasn't great on it. I worked at Lowry Digital. We just scanned the film, cleaned up all the dirt, and fixed any tears or damage.

You fixed tears? As in "Luke isn't crying enough in that scene, add more emotion!" I'm joking of course.

Yeah, I remember this whole saga. It was a big deal in the fan community, and I was still pretty into at that time, at least when it came to the OT.

ESB looked great, almost modern, but there was a lot of what felt like careless mistakes spread throughout the trilogy.

Lol lack of news makes people crazy. I'm sure wb knows What they're doing.

Considering the horrible start to this year, and really their track record in general over the last decade, I don't think they do. Nolan and Potter aside, they aren't exactly good at this marketing thing.

LOL! It was fun working on those movies. I worked a bunch of extra hours off the clock just so I'd be the one who got to restore Yoda pulling the X-Wing out of the swamp.

At least the LEGO set in the Merchandising Thread is interesting... especially since it shows Tor-An and what his sheild looks like.

At this point I am just waiting for them to say they are delaying the movie.

Really? I hope not. That would be horrible. That means something went really wrong. It was originally supposed to be released in December anyway, wasn't it? But they pushed it to summer because of IMAX IIRC.

Giving them Nolan and Potter is being generous. The marketing for Batman Begins was really weak and TDKR's marketing, while not this bad, was far from great. Eg. Horrible photoshop poster, Catwoman's reveal, etc. They were lucky that that movie pretty much marketed itself.

When do you guys think the trailer will debut? Are the Mtv Movie Awards a safe bet?

Begins was weak, and I didn't love TDKR campaign all that much but it was serviceable. TDK was done incredibly well, as was Inception.

Potter didn't have many, if any good posters post-PoA, but they did their job with the trailers incredibly well. Even for the films I didn't like all that much, they knocked it out of the park with the trailers, and they made the Potter films culture events in the end.

The marketing for TDK was spectacular, but it was also largely third party (WB hired different companies to do the viral stuff). So WB can't take much credit for that quality either...

They don't get credit for who they hire?

You touched on an important point; even though TDKR did very well (even better considering the tragedy that befell on first weekend) , it didn't exactly have the greatest of marketing. The poster Gil always expressed frustration at the marketing being always later than scheduled and even botched in places, such as the total lack of any Catwoman. And when they did release an official still of her, it was a disaster. Still, you could afford such a marketing for the sequel to The Dark knight. You can't do the same for a reboot aspiring to refit it's image to the world.

Why can't they use different marketing strategies for different audiences?
People on forums/fansites should have access to more details/footage on a regular basis. Whereas they can use a different, once every so often, reveal type approach for general audiences.

It still baffles me how some companies are truly unaware of how to capitalise on the internet.

I bet some of us here would pay up to a dollar if we got to see a trailer a few months earlier... That's essentially free money.

I think that is the crux of the argument.

WB used the internet pretty darn well for The Dark Knight. And that was when social media was far less advanced then now. MOS could've used that kind of ingenuity.

That is serious revisionist history. The Dark Knight Rises' marketing was great. One or two crappy photoshop one-sheets doesn't overshadow the many great posters and trailers.

Yeah, I was thinking of Gil's posts when I wrote that. Warner Bros missed a lot of internal deadlines and such for when things should have been out. Batman Begins is a great example of that fact that you can't count on a quality movie to sell itself. I was in high school at the time and I remember a lot of people were under the false impression that it was just a prequel to the Schumacher movies and dismissed it as such. Granted, the general public is far more aware of what a reboot is now a days, however, they still need to sell it.

I remember the same. That was a pretty frustrating time. We still never really got a decent Catwoman poster (the only one I remember was of her heel smashing the bat-symbol, which painted her as a villain... and she really never was).

Unlike other reboots, MOS has to also dispell the notion carried over from SR that it is a partial reboot of the Donner-verse. That's all SR was. How are people to know MOS isn't the same?

W.B. would really, really benefit from airing the full trailer with the national championship game. It would be a great way to generate buzz before iron man and trek take over in May.

Trailer 3 debuts with the game on April 8th, airs with 42 on April 12th. Then airs Iron Man 3, The great Gatsby, Star Trek. Trailer 4 airs with The Hangover - all through out May.

Tv spots begin throughout all the May season finales, blow up around Memorial day and carry on through June 13th.

Damn do I still despise the mid June release date. It didn't work for Xmen, Green Lantern, Batman Begins, Hulk, The Incredible Hulk, or Fantastic Four. MOS is very capable of reversing the trend, but it will take excellent marketing to do so. Thus far, the MOS marketing has been excellent - but we are at a moment where we are in a dry spell when the buzz really needs to be picking up. April 8th is the day.

WB could seriously create a lot of buzz if they would just announce they were debuting the entire trailer with the game. Nothing on that day and I will be very concerned. It will be nowhere near "point of no return", but it will be a decent amount of a "missed opportunities".
