All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 4

I just hope we don't get an ending scene of Supers flying away while Perry White says in voiceover: "We write about him because people need to know. Strength doesn't come from lifting buildings or stopping bullets. Strength comes doing what is right, not what is easy. Where other men might be corrupted or give in, he never will. He is our beacon to guide us. A man of truth. A man of justice. A man of steel."

Bwahaha :woot:

But... that would be awesome!

I love you. :awesome:

I know that is a rip off but my god, that would be ****ing awesome.

I hope they make Clark likeable. The Nolan Batman movies are great but I don't care about Bruce Wayne. I don't like him.

Part of me really wants Man of Steel to explore the idea of what our world would be like if Superman existed. He's one of the friendliest guys you'll meet, but he could easily conquer the world on a whim. Would people love him or would they fear him because of his power?

And would fanboys/girls like ourselves worship him on the Superherohype forums? lol

In real life superman would be feared. You can bet you're bottom that the military would have a contingency against superman.

And I think that would be very interesting. I remember in WATCHMEN, they discuss America's omnipotence-by-association with Doctor Manhattan, so maybe something like that could be done with Superman.

I agree. I would like that to be explored.

Thanks! Plus, I think it would feel very different from Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie, and an updated perspective of Superman that modern audiences would enjoy.

I would like to see the world scared of him at first. Always bothered how easily we just accept him. But hey its a comic book world. Certain allowances can be made.

Food for thought

Heres how the reactions of people in the movie should differ from the first movie.
SMTM
"Thank you helping us capture this criminal, alien stranger"

MOS
"WHAT THE **** ARE YOU? DONT MOVE, DONT ******* MOVE!!!!"

SMTM
"Everyone, look in the sky. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, Its Superman, and he's come to save us"

MOS
"Whats that?...RUN FOR YOUR ******* LIVES" :awesome:

Indeed rod. That's more like it. Lol

Agreed. I think it would be great if he has to show humanity that he is their friend, and not their foe. I think it would really add depth to his "nice guy" attitude.

It makes sense.

I could see our military shooting first and asking questions later..

The humor would come after the smoke from countless rifle, tank, and missile barrages clears and Superman is left standing without so much as a scratch, arms folded, with a look that says, ''are you finished.''
The General and most of his troops would be like ''holy shet!!''

^And the tension would come from the General aquiring kryptonite in order to put Zod and all those Kryptonians, out of commission.

I don't think Zod and Superman will be at odds in their first meeting. In fact, I think it will be very much like Ra's and Batman's relationship, actually. Also, Zod serves as a perfect counterpoint to why Superman needs to be the way he is. He is what we all would be if we were Superman. Using his power to do what he thinks is best for everyone, rather than restricting himself.

That might be interesting.

I've posted this else where, but I feel it's an important point.

Remember one Mr.James Earl Jones in an episode of LOIS AND CLARK Mr.Stern? He played a kind of superior to Perry, or I think if my memory serves me right, somebody who Perry asked for help and money to buy a share in the Planet to save it from being bought over by Luthor

At the time, when I watched it, I really thought ... wow JE Jones could really be the black equivalent of Perry, ... a sort of father figure with a "stern" attitude to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" ... and I kind of warmed to the idea when I first saw the episode.

I don't see why some people are choosing to moan about this. I think it's a wonderful idea.

As someone from an ethnic minority, I must say I wouldn't want a black Superman, as the image of what superman looks like to me and many people has kind of been engraved for 70 odd years. But making the supporting cast a bit more cultured would go a long way to show that they really ARE modernising the saga.

actually, I hope they do explore that to an extent. in a realistic manner, of course.

In many ways, that is what Zod would represent, and he'd act as a foil to Superman.

Zod has all the powers of Superman ( maybe even more/different powers ), but, presumably, he intends to conquer or control the world. The public would associate Superman with Zod ( and Lex would help fan this ) and rightfully be afraid of Supes.

I want Supes to have to EARN the public's trust through his actions.

makes it more challenging and interesting than if they just automatically loved/accepted him.

I think it would be cool if Zod had something to do with Krypton's destruction. That would really piss off Supes.

"You destroyed Krypton...I WILL NOT LET YOU DESTROY EARTH!" :D
